About
The Stari Grad Plain, also known as Hora or Ager, is such an impressively preserved testament to the Ancient Greek period that it was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2008. In the heart of Hora stands one of the few buildings in the plain, Agroturizam Pharos, where the Žuvela family are continuing the traditions of the Ancient Greeks today. With some 32,000m2, the working farm is an oasis of heritage and organic produce, a world away from the beach and busy coastal towns. With animals for the children, a range of organic food and wines produced by the family, and catering for groups for the most traditional of Dalmatian meals, Agroturizam Pharos is waiting for your visit to show you a different side of Hvar, taking you back to the time of the Ancient Greeks.

Wonderful - I highly recommend Hora Hvar to anyone visiting Hvar who is looking for an authentic and unique experience!
A treasure hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Hvar Town. We had the most wonderful time. We reserved the wine tasting, olive oil tasting and grilled fish and vegetarian menu in advance and everything was delicious and so fresh. We even bought two bottles of wine and a chilli, garlic and herb infused olive oil to take home with us. All ingredients are organic and grown there on their farm. Our waiter was highly knowledgeable and friendly, making us feel very welcome.
We took some lovely pictures in the lavender fields and had a little stroll around the farm before leaving. The donkeys greeting arriving visitors were adorable, as was the farm dog Blacky!

A last minute decision having walked around Stari Grad. Got a taxi out there, only 10 minutes for 70kn. Fantastic set up with great views. Small tasting plate with 4 wines for 150kn each well worth the couple of hours we were there. Food looks great too but we were out of time. Make sure you book first.

It’s tough to put in words how special this place is and how much we enjoyed ourselves here. We came towards the end of May 2022 and had the absolute best experience. The location is absolutely beautiful and it’s amazing to walk around and see where all the produce you’re served comes from. The 4 wines were amazing and so was the food! The bread was so good and so were the olive oils. I’m normally not one for anchovies but their marinated anchovies were very enjoyable. We had the peka, both the meat and octopus and both were fantastic. The dessert was light and delightful after a heavy meal. Tamara was our host and she was so informative and also entertaining and kind. We wanted to keep hanging out with her! We walked around the grounds before our last wine tasting and saw the donkeys and lavender as the sun was setting and it was magical. A must go to if you’re in Hvar. Photos are of food for 4 (2 people shared each peka plate).

I enjoyed Hora last year, we were guests of friends in June of this year. The starter incl. prosciutto, bread, olives, salad and local cheeses was tasty. The lamb Peca, a traditional local stew was very disappointing. Whilst the broth was rich and the potatoes delicious, the lamb was mainly bones with very little meat to share. The wines were big on description but far better can be enjoyed locally in my opinion. Sadly, the evening was ruined by wasps. It wasn’t possible to enjoy any of it for fear being stung, as happened to one of us within 5 minutes of our arrival. Vital of course to the ecology, wasps could have been managed to attract them away from the restaurant area. Fancy a cold beer instead of wine? You won’t get one at Hora. Sadly, I conclude that Hora is pretty much a coach party destination. If you want a quieter experience in this idyllic setting, you might suffer the exact opposite. Easy to say ‘never again’. I was hoping to read some positive reviews since our visit but no posts so far this year. I will watch with interest and remember to take a cool bag with beer if we do return next season.

Phoned to book a wine tour and wine tasting and clearly explained we didn’t want any food. Lady said yes come at 2pm. We arrived on time to a large party eating in the restaurant. Said again didn’t want any food but were brought a plate of salami, cheese and scoop of tuna and cheese, 2 anchovies, a basket of stale bread and a dish with 3 olive oils We told the guy the bread was stale and he said it was made early morning then left to dry for 2-3 hours?! Explained again we didn’t want any food and he said it was with the wine tasting. I tried the food but it wasn’t good at all. Rude and inappropriate references as to how their wines had been named so not a place to take children. Tasted 3 olive oils (1 was ok, other 2 were not) with the stale bread and 4 thimbles of wine none of which were good. Asked when the tour would commence and told there isn’t one. The only good thing is the location in fields of trees, vines and vege but the view from restaurant terrace is obscured with a roof in front.

Went for dinner with adult children and friends; 8 people. We did not opt to go for the wine tasting and only booked dinner. It is a rustic location in the middle of the vineyards. Very simple. We had the lamb peka with a bottle of their local red wine. The meal was ok but not as tasty as we expected; note it was better the next day when we warmed up leftovers. Picture a large lamb stew with a lot of potatoes. The wine was fine and we were happy not to have gone for the wine tasting. Meal was €295 for main meal only including one bottle of red wine. No appetizers or dessert. They will provide a ride to and from location included in meal.

Absolutely amazing experience, highlight of our trip! Our waiter (sorry forgot your name again!😂) was the best and made our meal and wine tasting very enjoyable and fun! We will recommend to any friends who are visiting the Hvar island 😊

We got the vegetarian option as we don’t like lamb and it was a apple risotto and was really tasty, the cheese and olives was also amazing. We bought another bottle of wine whilst there and some cherry brandy! 😊

We wanted to try peka, and we definitely picked the right place to do so! Our group was picked up by the farm van in Stari Grad. At the farm, we were greeted with fig brandy and given a few minutes to admire the local lavender plants, grape vines and other farm crops. Then we were shepherded to our table to begin our meal: we started with homemade bread, served with 3 olive oils (virgin, extra virgin and herbed), 3 spreads (butter, fish pate and meat pate), marinated and salted anchovies, cheese, sausage and bacon. Our mains included a selection of BBQ meats (sausage, chicken, pork chops and steak) with fries; a grilled fish with wilted greens and potatoes; and a veal-and-lamb peka with amazing potatoes. The appetizers were served with two of their white wines, and the main was served with one of their reds, then the frittule (apple jam filled fritters) were served with their dark rose. They were kind enough to pack up our leftover peka for us, and on the way back, our driver gave us a bottle of cherry brandy to take home. It was a wonderful experience, with the appetizers, BBQ meats and peka potatoes being particular highlights. (Our meals were EUR 40-50/pp, paid in cash.)

As soon as we reached this place we were amazed. The beautiful scenery with wineyards, olive trees, friendly donkeys that are strolling around, and a wonderful smell of food is what made us fall in love with this place immediately. Later on we were nicely greeted by the owner who told us a bit more about the farm, including the fact that everything grown there is organic and that the food on our table is completely home made. She was really welcoming and definitely one of the warmest people we've ever met. This place felt like a home away from home. If you appreciate good food and enjoy tasting wine in a beautiful nature scenery, it is a must go. Hope to be back soon and thank you so much once again, dear Romana! ❤️

We had a wonderful winetasting in the sunset and with a fantastic view overlooking the wineyard. The manager welcomed us with a smile and a taste of a homemade grappa made of fig. During the visit we tasted 4 wines and 3 different oliveoils together with homemade cheese and salami. Everything was perfect and I can highly recommand to visit Hora.
