The walk up the winding track from the town to the Fortress is relatively easy - with rewarding beautiful views across the harbour and to the islands once you get there. Inside the fortress itself there's a small gift shop, cafe and side museum exhibit but other than that there's not much by way of signage or historical detail about... More

Really interesting history and the views are absolutely stunning. Take the walk up from Hvar Town well worth it so long as you have the energy wear good trainers or walking shoes as the steps are very slippery even when dry. If you cannot manage the walk you can drive up to the fortress where there is a car park.

It was easy to find the way up, once we had wandered up one of the side streets at the base of the hill. We bought a very expensive bottle of water at the base - better to do that in advance and avoid tourist prices! The walk up was fairly hot - but well worth it - as thew... More

A lovely little slice of history and very well preserved. A great thing to do during the day if you get bored of the beach or fancy a stroll.

The walk appears daunting but paved all the way and occasional seats to take in the vistas en route. Shaded path (although accessible by car). We grabbed a tourist map from the reluctant tourist information lass and navigated via the delightful backstreets. I loved the struggling stalactites near the prison cells and the view from the monastery roof.

Beautifully display of Hvar cost and nature embraced by the blue sea. When I visited Hvar I was impressed with the vibe of the place ..Full of history and also mix of new buildings but preserving the old streets and memories from the past .

We climbed up to the fort one night for sunset. The climb is a bit of a hike but anyone can make it up there. I forget the cost to enter but it was minimal. There is a prison that you can walk through which was very cool. There is a bar/café upstairs with coffee, ice cream, beer, snacks, etc.... More

You will not get a better view than this. It's not a long walk up but it could feel difficult to do on a hot day so I would recommend early morning or evening.

We walked up to the fortress from town, you just go up the walkway in the middle of the square in town near the cathedral. We went up to watch the sunset. The view from the first lookout (not inside the fortress) is good but I do recommend spending the extra 30kuna (not much at all) to get the best... More

A bit of a hike but worth every bit of the effort. Nice restaurant and a full bar round up the evening
