Amazing view, but fortress itself doesn't worth it!

The walk up to the fortress started with stairs through the old city, and a zig-zag path up to the monument. The walk is really nice, with an amazing view on the harbour and old town. A pic on the top of the hill at sunset, it's the perfect souvenir you want to have. The forteress itself doesn't worth the... More

well worth the hike to the top through fragrant gardens to see some amazing views of Hvar and the Palenki islands. There is a nice bar at the top and I think they do weddings there

The first place I wanted to visit was Spanjola, and the walk up there was worth every step. A lovely easy amble up, up, up, but still only 15 minutes from the port. The views are spectacular even from the gardens. I was disappointed in the information given once up there. You are given a useful leaflet upon paying the... More

A bit of a walk up but nice to sit and watch the sunset over the town. Wasn't too expensive, 30kn. Theres dungeon, restaurant/bar, and some exhibitions to look around.

We couldn't face the steep climb up to the castle and so simply drove up! We were met by great views over Hvar and its islands Entry cost about 3 Euros and my wife went in to get even better views and photos , largely ignoring the actual fortress. Too many steps up for me but the drive is quick... More

Nice walk up to the Fort via the herb gardens and you also see more backstreets of Hvar. The fort itself has some great history and the family enjoyed the views, the photo opportunities and the prison. It was also nice to have a place at the top for refreshments, which is probably unusual in such a historical venue. I... More

The walk is worth the effort. Take the time to look over the city as well as the old prison. How little outlook did prisoners have rom their cell.

Well, the fort holds a collection of amphora and other exhibits from antiquity and the Middle Ages! Besides experiencing its exquisite architecture, you will experience an unforgettable panoramic view of the city of Hvar, its surroundings and the Pakleni islands. Loveliest to see at sunset!
