My sister and I decided to go for a late evening stroll on this stunning beach. Yes it has pebbles and it's compact but it still is gorgeous.

This pebble beach is a few minutes walk from Hvar Harbour. Much like the rest of the island, it’s picturesque and near to amenities like bars and small souvenir shops. It’s a pebble beach, and not sandy, so it’s worth ensuring you have suitable footwear for both the water and rocky shore.

We needed to cool off after our long walk up to the fortress, so decided to go for a swim. There were lots of rocks around the bay - but once these had been climbed over, we were able to swim out to the bouys which stopped boats coming too close to the shore. The sea was so clean and fresh. A glorious afternoon swimming!

Our Air BnB host recommended this beach to us because it was close to the apartment we were staying in. There was a path from the residential area (Krizna Luca) down to this beach (about 5-10 mins downhill on a rock path). When we arrived we had lunch at Mustaco, one of two restaurants on the beach. After lunch we rented two lounge beds (70 HKN) and one umbrella (50 HKN) from a rental hut (offering other things to buy including blow up toys for the beach). There was an ATM on the beach which was very convenient. But the only toilets I could see were those for the restaurants.

The water at this beach was very nice (there was a path into the water so you didn't have to step on all the rocks and slip and/or hurt your feet getting in or out) and a great swim (both for children and adults).

This was one of my favourite beaches in Croatia because it wasn't overly crowded! Definitely recommend if you are staying nearby!

Hvar beach is accessible by car, but we didn’t have one. We walked the foot path down the hill which is a little treacherous in flip flops. There is a bar, ice cream, and parking. It’s a rocky beach but it’s pretty comfortable to lay on. It was busy on a Saturday (to be expected). Lots of families, couples, and groups of friends. A lot of places in Hvar are rocky outcrops where you can jump in the water. If you want more of a traditional beach, this might be a good spot if you have access.

If you walk past the ferry terminal and stay along the water, you leave the city and enter a somewhat residential section. At times the road is quite a ways above the beach, fortunately, the local residents have carved out classic "flat areas" in the rocks, plus numerous concrete boat mooring sites that are perfect for a few hours of sunning and swimming. Sometimes getting to some of these is as much fun as jumping into the crystal blue waters. Non-slip rock climbing shoes or urchin shoes are recommended. Each cove has a rocky "beach" area, including Pokonji Dol. Cold drinks, food, umbrellas, chaise lounges, and some water toy rentals are available.

Hvar is expensive and crowded. You are charged 25 euros for a lounge seat at the beach. And the parking situation is worse than in Midtown Manhattan (plus the two-way roads are narrow for a single car). Of course, there are rocky areas that are hard to walk and sea urchins in the water. You have to be careful entering the water. The views are indeed stunning. The water looks very clear. And the town is walkable and adorable despite having about twice as many Airbnbs than it is sustainable. However, on my second day here I fell sick. And I am sick rarely. I woke up shivering with fever in the middle of the night. That didn't go away even when I turned the a/c off. I had to take 2 Alka Seltzers to calm it down. I have diarrhea. And I swam at the town beach for less than half an hour in that allegedly clear water. I don't know if it is crowds or the incredible amount of boats, yachts, and ships that constantly come and go from the Hvar port. But I suspect something was in the water that caused my sickness.

So this is a review of the place in general, and the town too. It’s pretty much an over-hyped place for continental European 17yr olds to have their first partying experience. They’re flown in thousands at a time and basically just take over the town. Hvar has beautiful sea and beaches but, the quiet, picture perfect photos you see online are far from the very overcrowded truth. It’s an expensive place generally, but more so because bar staff make up prices and extort tips. Food quality is generally good here and drinks are fair measures however. You will see some mega money millionaires here on huge boats, which is fun to see but also the local business owners forget their usual clients at these times and provide bad service in favour of those more well off. If you’re in the area, worth checking the island out but don’t make a specific vacation for it.

so many nice swimming spots around Hvar. Lovely clear water. All pebble/ rock beaches so bring water shoes. The beach near the town is small but fine spot for spending the afternoon in the sun. You have to pay for the loungers so we just lay on towels.

This compact beach is only a few minutes stroll from the harbour at Hvar but could be miles away. As with many parts of Croatia, water shoes are advisable for the beaches which are primarily rocks and stones but the dividend is crystal clear water which is refreshing and beautiful. You will see fish and there is a protected area for people to swim in. In 95 degree heat, this is a welcome spot to cool off. There is some natural shade, but also loungers and umbrellas to hire as well. Well worth a visit.
