Wear tight shoes!!!!
Jun 2020 • Solo
For me, it was a spontaneous decision. The beginning of the trail is where indicated on the map. The inscription is overgrown with threads and is not visible from the road. I started going 10 in the morning and came back at 4.15pm. The path of all roads is marked with a white and red circle. The last meters were the most difficult. On the way up, I made at least 5 stops to rest a little in the shade. I had light boots on my feet. When I walked down my legs I pounded around the rocks and slipped, so I strongly recommend you wear hard shoes that hold your feet tightly. I went on June 27th and it was very hot. I had a 1.5 liter water bottle with me and it was too little, so take 2 liters at least. It is best to go in the morning as early as possible. This mountain trail tested my willpower and heart health))) The views of the bay are fantastic and the feeling that you can overcome yourself is stunning.

Great views - definitely worth it

I was a bit concerned as some of the reviewers have found the start of the path hard to find but we found an easy route to it so I thought it would be helpful to share.

We started at Tommy supermarket in Obod as we wanted some drinks and snacks.

Start by walking west along the road towards Mlini, there is a path next to the road on the left hand side so you don't have to walk on it. Cross the road before the bridge and take the concrete road on the right. Then you will see a concrete track on your right heading up the hill and someone has marked 'trail' in green spray paint! Follow these marks until you see the red and white marks of the trail. Where there is a a wooden sign pointing right to Velji Do also take this turning.

The path to the village is a steady climb but rough under foot so a minimum of good trainers is needed especially when you go back down. The path from the village to the top is steeper but the views just get better so well worth it. We took the trail from next to the big oak tree.

The restaurant was as charming as other people have described and they were very friendly - much more than other places we have eaten at - with good English too. And the food was also very good - you get what they have cooked but my husband was very happy with the meat, I am vegetarian but they made me a cheese salad no problem and the vegetables on my husband's plate were delicious too.

Lots of butterflies, flowers and lizards along the path, we also saw praying mantis and a horned nose viper.

Definitely recommend the trail and the restaurant.

Worthwhile - but not a stroll!

Just completed the trek today in a little over 5 hours starting at hotel Cavtat and including two 20 min stops. My wife and I are fit OAPs with recent walking experience in Andalucia ( Finca el Cerrillo) and whilst this walk isn't quite as challenging as those we're used to it was 29 degrees.

Notes written by Michael Melvin are excellent and we did the circular route which is arguably tougher than the straight up and down. Being early Summer trail shoes and trainers were fine but water ( 1.5-2 L per person) and hat essential IMHO.

Quite touching at the summit and sobering as well as you look DOWN at aircraft approaching the airport .

Well worth the effort but I suspect that a very small percentage of visitors will be up for it.Restaurant looked shut but as we left immediately after breakfast we were back for lunch.

Worth the effort

Really enjoyed this walk but found it quite hard going. I echo what everyone else says about taking plenty to drink and eat. Was a little disappointed in the village bar at Velji Do ( perhaps not very friendly ) It took me a good 5 hours and I am an experienced walker. I caught the bus from Mlini from where we were staying and got off on the main road at Gorji Obod. The walk is a delight for those who love wild flowers.

A GREAT VIEW OVER THE BAYS AROUND CAVTAT AND DUBROVNIK
However the terrain was demanding on ankles and knees as mainly rocky so you have to stop to look up and around If you can summit in the time suggested you are mountain goats

Great Wildlife & Scenery

Don’t be fooled by the guide in the tourist information centre at Cavtat. The 2.5 hour guide time is on the ambitious side. We are reasonably fit and do a fair bit of walking. At a steady pace we were up and back down in just over 6 hours.
The walk is easy to follow and fairly solid going, but not one for anyone unsteady on their feet. The views over Cavtat and the surrounding area are amazing. The variety of wild flowers and plants is great. There are also plenty of lizards, snakes, and birds to spot along the way.
The restaurant is a great stop for refreshments near the top, and well priced.

Spent a morning climbing to the memorial. For anyone seeking a little seclusion and if you are reasonably fit then I would recommend going. Do take water and snacks and a camera. Great views of the coastline and mountains.
