We drove through a small part of this huge reserve making our way from Karlovac, Croatia to Novo Mesto, Slovenia. It’s a large hilly woodland interspersed with small farming villages. It would make a good weather destination to explore rather than the cloudy rain we had today.

The whole place is just beautiful. You can visit small villages all around the Zumberak hills in a car, but the best way to experiance this beautiful nature is on a bike.
Maybe it wouldn't be the easiest way because here the road is all up and down but it's worth it.
You can also go hiking, there are many trails to go on foot.

It's big area so we decided to stay near river Slapnica (Medven Draga) where we could enjoy walking and looking for the waterfalls. Great place to escape from the summer heat and enjoy pure nature. Samoborsko Gorje is great place for bike trekking but unfortunately i can't say it is great experience driving through with a car. It was an adventure to pass very insecure tight roads with numerous landslides as a result of rainfall.

...but they did burst like a baloon. We expected to spend a sunny day in the nature and to see some farm animals. So don't believe what the tourist board site says: "...come here to marvel at horses and colts grazing freely, even ride them; where children can stroke a cow, play with a goose, run after goats ... " because it just isn't true. The only thing you will find there are ruins, no farm animals whatsoever and nothing to do but to hike in the woods (frankly you can do that in a few better places). It was a useless long drive just to find ruins and an average half-dilapidated restaurant.

It is a wonderfull place to escape from the crowds. Great views, hills, forests, streams. Would be nice to just go and walk a few days with your backpack. People there are suspicious but simple, not much to do if you dont enjoy and value the fresh air and pure beauty of nature.

It was a real pleasure to visit this place! It is worth spending the whole day there and to explore additional adventurous places all over the Žumberak. Initially, we went there for a horse ride that lasted for more than 2 hours and was very professional as well as secure. Having to meet the owners of the whole village, we had a good laugh and been treated with some great food afterwards.
I fully recommend it, especially for couples in search of Croatian hidden and gorgeous places. :)

Zouden graag dit park bezoeken met de fiets. We logeren in het zuiden van het park (van 19-22/06)in de buurt van Ribnik en willen graag weten of dit park gemakkelijk bereikbaar is via goed bruikbare fietspaden?
