- Rachel SBunbury, Australia96 contributionsUnique spot, Bring your own everythingNot as big as we thought. Great that you can decide on the side depending where the wind is coming from. Heaps of boats anchored just the other side of the swimming rope. A couple of expensive bars. Sun loungers and umbrella available, but very expensive. Most laid on the stones, under the trees. Water is crystal clear.Visited June 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten June 2, 2023
- Bonymerlin111Manchester, United Kingdom189 contributionsA little disappointingLovely walk to here from Bol centre, but sadly feel the beach is a bit over hyped. The fact it is stony wasn’t really an issue for us, but it just really didn’t have the wow factor we were expecting. Worth a visit for a few quick photos, but we didn’t stay long.Visited June 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten June 20, 2023
- 66bellaYork, United Kingdom104 contributionsUnderwhelming gravel tipWhat an underwhelming beach . Walked for miles to get there . An overcrowded gravel pit of a place . People vying to squash under trees to get shade. Overpriced sunbeds . Loud bar . Definitely not worth the trip. Best bit was the water taxi we took to return to the town.Visited July 2023Traveled with friendsWritten July 5, 2023
- InaH189Shkoder, Albania1,351 contributionsAn extraordinary experience!A very beautiful beach,a pebble beach where you can enjoy the crystal waters of Zlatni Rat Beach. Surrounded by a lot of restaurants located among the trees, they were all the time full of peolple.People found themselves in different sports, such as:windsurf, water cycling. There was a buggy that worked to transport people from the beach.Visited July 2023Written July 17, 2023
- PinkLauBelfast, United Kingdom37 contributionsBeautiful beach, excellent facilitiesBeautiful beach, and our favourite beach that we visited out of Bol/Hvar/Split- mainly due to the excellent facilities. Lots of sunbeds to rent, which are cheaper compared to Hvar. Lots of shady places available to sit. There is an amazing selection of food stalls and restaurants in the woodland area in the centre of the beach. Toilets are very clean, with showers available (have to pay but worth it for the cleanliness). Also a children’s park area, as well as areas to hire kayaks and paddle boards.Visited July 2023Traveled with friendsWritten July 22, 2023
- Karen SLondon, United Kingdom39 contributionsAbsolutely gorgeous beach. Expensive but clean and good funMy family had a lovely day at this beach. It is expensive, but most of Croatia is in tourist season. It’s quite crowded but again, nothing unusual about that. But it is also charming, exceptionally clean and well maintained, excellent facilities and really lovely to spend time there. We took a boat from Split and then a stupidly expensive taxi (try and work out a better way of getting around!) but it was worth it in the end. One side of the beach is calm water, perfect for little kids and gentle swimming. The other has loads of waves for the bigger kids to throw themselves into. The food area is immaculate with loads of amazing options - my kids had a pizza, I had a healthy chia seed fruit bowl! There’s also a very relaxed each bar with tunes and big bean bags. My kids said it was their favourite day of the holiday :)Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten August 24, 2023
- pinkswedeBramhult, Sweden7 contributionsDream beach!Beautiful spot! The best view of the beach is from viewpoint, more difficult to get good overview photos from beach level.. many nice relax areas, food trucks and two very nice and comfortable coffe/restaurants. Ok restroms. Parking 20,- EUR for full day, 1 h 5 EUR. Nice sunbeds, some deluxe options available. Highly recommend to spend a beach day here!Visited August 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten August 25, 2023
- barb11172016Franklin, Tennessee161 contributionsRat BeachA beautiful beach and the water is so clear. It drops off rapidly in the water. It is rocky but not with sharp rocks. We rented one of the cabanas for 40€, well worth it. The sun gets hot, so well worth being under the cabana. Walk the promenade to get to the beach. A lot of interesting stands along the way. A fun beach day!Visited August 2023Traveled with friendsWritten August 26, 2023
- ghanbgNuremberg, Germany685 contributionsWorth the tripYes, it’s not cheap to park here or get a sun lounger and in the peak of the season it’s probably too full. But.. it IS a beautiful beach, you can swim out quite far, and if you get tired of the crowds just move west a bit to the coves near to it. We were glad we came!Visited September 2023Traveled with familyWritten September 2, 2023
- Daniel B19 contributionsSo lovely. A MUST VISIT.Such a beautiful spot. Lovely clear sea to enjoy. Water sport activities for the adventurous and good food huts. We sat on the east side close to the sea on a (paid hire) sun lounger. We found between the southern point of the woodland and the inflatable water park at the top seemed to be sheltered from the breeze which made us more comfortable. We visited a few times in our week in Bol and found that different times of day meant different things to enjoy. Being here as the sun went down was magical, as was being here early before it got busy and when it was busy it is nice just floating about in the sea.Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten September 4, 2023

It’s been said this is the best beach in Croatia. Well that depends on your expectations but for me there are better beaches. Hopefully this will help you decide. Let’s start with …..
The beach
It’s a large beach that is stoney. When I was there the stones were finer on one side of the beach. I visited in August and it’s busy. But the size of the beach means it can cope with the crowds well and you’ll always find a space to lay down a towel. If you’re after loungers and umbrella though I’d guess these sell out fairly early - and compared to other beaches in the area are quite expensive at over 30 Euros for two loungers and an umbrella. Visually not as impressive as the from air photos but nice none the less with the pine woods backing the beach. Certainly family friendly. The sea is clean all along this coast.
Facilities
There are loads of facilities on the beach including lots of water sports, trampolines and a fun water park. The beach is backed by pine woods and in there are lots of cabins selling a vast variety of food. Bars and play areas too. For shade lovers the wooded area isn’t really suited to lounging in unless your in a bar as the ground is earthy and stoney and in any case full of facilities.
Getting there
From Bol I’d guess it’s 2km, maybe a little more. There’s a pleasant sea front walkway for about two thirds of this. It’s a nice walk carved through woods so shaded along the way. There are lots of cabins selling food, drink and ice cream as well as villas, hotels, bars and souvenir stalls, but it still feels fairly rural. You’ll also find some smaller beaches on the way - and particularly at the Bol end some smaller places to perch on the sea edge. If you don’t fancy the walk from Bol there is a boat taxi shuttle and a ‘petit tran’ that will shuttle you there (paid of course). Most people walk. The walkway is a nice shaded place to run if that is your thing but can be quite busy.

It is of unique shape, covered with pebbles, with close shadow of woods. You can choose to swim in wavy sea (on windy side) or absolute calm. After few steps depth is over head. Water is absolutely clean and limpid. Additionally, there is a show of tens of kite riders, completing the whole experience.

We saw it first from the Vidova Gora, from where it really looks nice. But it is actually nice in reality as well, not only from the above :) One side was windy, the other not. We were lucky as on the day we got there was quite cloudy so we didn't need a sun umbrella (not sure how much it costs but I don't expect it to be cheap). I've read that the first parking is around 90 kuna per day but if you keep on going toward to beach and do not park on the very first spot, then you reach parking that costs 30 kuna per day and is really close to the beach (2 minute walk) and even 20 kuna (though this seemed to be bit longer walk yet still somehow reasonable).

Been here last time in September 2016 and it was unique experience. We parked our car in the shade of main parking obove the beach, the price for all-day is 80 kuna, but for us Croats it's 50 kuna.
The beach itself is spectacular, you can feel that you are on special place. That day it was very, very windy and it was a heaven for kite-surfers.
Many tourists and my companion were on one side of the beach because on the other were big waves...
The sea was very cold (first days of June, yes, the climate is rapidly changing in Adriatic) and it was a challenge for me as a local...
From the mountain or from a drone you can easily think that beach is sandy, but it is everything but not sandy! Pebbles are across all the beach.
Instagrammable beach, you can take many nice photos.

We took our car on the morning ferry($55) from Split and drove 37 km over the island to Bol and down to this popular beach. It was quiet with free access in the off season especially with today’s light rain. We walked the overlook to view the nudist beach and the beautiful 400 m “Tongue of the Golden Gate” which from this distance could be delightful sand but in reality is made up of small pebbles.
Nice stone church from 1720 with cats in control and an odd bronze monument of a basket carrying donkey.

Very crowded in August, 2 sunbeds + umbrella 36 EUR but even if you get on 1st row you have people putting towels on the shore in front of you. No showers on the beach but only in a centralized building approx. 100m far: price for each shower is 2.5 EUR (!!!) toilet “only” 1 EUR. Many types of food in the different shops but prices are ridiculously high.
I would not recommend this place.

We are staying in Bol ( Brac) in the town. This beach is a five minute stroll from the town via a shaded flat promenade.we walked on the beach and walked off.It was busy and most people sat on their towels as they wanted 280 kuna for two sun beds . The best thing about this beach is it’s shape , best enjoyed from one of the restaurants/ cafes overlooking it ( or even higher up from the mountain) , however to swim and sunbathe there are far better beaches on the island of Brac .

We’d been told it is one of the best beaches in Europe, but didn’t realise it was pebble until we got there, as it looks like sand in the pictures. The view from the beach is really nice, but it’s not comfortable to sit or walk on and it’s expensive to pay for a bed. We weren’t too bothered because we didn’t come to Bol purely for this beach and we had an amazing panoramic view from our hotel (Lifestyle Vitar), but if weren’t staying somewhere so nice it would’ve been a massive let down.

We for sure knew that the famous Golden Horn of Brac (Zlatni Rat Beach) is not a sandy beach but we expected smaller stones with some sand inbetween.
Also we weren't aware, that water as well as wind are quite chilly at this part of the island (we stayed one week).
Prices and the mass of tourists, were also surprising to us (not in a positive way).
If we were asked to give a recomandation, we would recomand to come for a one day trip only.

Sorry to put up another post but was wondering if anyone could help me. We are coming in may 3-10th and were we was staying when we originally booked the holiday it was porec. We found a lot of the trips we wanted to do we wouldn’t be able to do them as we was at the opposite side and all the companys i contacted said we are too far away we need to be in split area.
Anyway now we have completely changed our holiday from the date the airport and to
Location. We are now staying at the medora auri hotel in podgora to which companies are now saying we have a better chance at doing trips.
We so want to visit this beach but we are being quoted ridiculously expensive. For half a day its 150 euros or for whole day265 euros. (This is for both not each but still i think thats so expensive).
All we want to do is get to the beach and spend the day there no tour guide just a simple drop of and see you later when they pick up. Are we going to find a way there any cheaper as this holiday already has cost more than when we usually go away for 2 weeks and just normally were only going for a week.
Sorry for a long post. I actually may put this on the forum just incase this doesnt get seen and may get different answers too. Hoping for advice thanks in advance

You can get the high speed ferry from split to bol then a short 10 min water taxi to the rat or walk through the paved woodland path. Ferries are not expensive or take the car ferry from split to supertar then taxi or bus to bol. It should be no where near 150 euro the car ferry was about 6 euro last year one way for foot passenger takes about 50 mins. See the lladrolinja time tables online for jnfo.the bus is a lot cheaper than the taxi.
