This is a spectacular spot with almost unreal, turquoise blue water, which reflects the amazing Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the background. Although you have to line up like cattle to get into the place and up to the lakes, the views are worth it. Go prepared for crowds and people everywhere but enjoy the views. 100CNY entrance ticket plus 20CNY minis the shuttle bus from the Tourist Center to the lake. Takes about 1 hour in a taxi or Didi from Lijiang (roughly 80CNY) each way.

The landscape is undoubtedly beautiful, especially if you catch a beautiful day .. the water is crystal clear .. But getting here was "heavy" as unfortunately happens a bit in all parks in China, because they are always organized in a complicated way for us Westerners (unclear) and with the compulsion to take more means inside the park that greatly dilate the times ..
We joined the visit to the show held at the entrance of the park, but to stay an hour here and one of shows, plus the lunch break, we lost the whole day ..
If you come by taxi you may be able to get taken directly to the lake bypassing for the outward having to take the internal shuttle .. While then to get back you have to take the paid shuttle that takes you to the entrance of the park and then here see to find a taxi. beware that there are collective taxis that take only 20y each but that waste a lot of time because first they have to fill up (from 4 or 6 seats are ) and then take you to Lijiang but maybe making intermediate stops nearby ..

We took a bus from Lijiang Ancient City for 15 RMB and it took us to the foot of the mountain. Then we took the bus from there up to the Blue Moon Valley. The place was breath-taking. The colour of the water was amazingly stunning. We did not go up the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain as we heard that there was no snow at this time of the year. The Blue Moon Lake was already worth the trip. As it was rainy season, we had brought along our raincoat. It rained and stopped, rained and stopped. We walked around the lake, walking on the jungle side was a very interesting experience. Because of the wet weather, different species of flora and fungi could be spotted along the way.

This is a beautiful scenic place for photography. Unfortunately all the beautiful spots are being taken by local people in their costumes all day long

It is hard to find an ideal spot for beautiful scenic view because of the crowd. With the waterfalls, snow capped mountains, the blue colored lake plus the pink tree in centre(which I believe is a fake tree which ruins the scenery!!)

After this photo stop, one has to go up to line up for the bus to take you to the next stop......watch out for pick pockets

Very scenic area but very touristy with lots of shops to take your photos in costume or with a yak. They have built dams and waterfalls in the area to help out with protection of the glaciers. The water is still a very nice blue and the valley is very green. If you're looking for a trip from Lijiang you could combine this area easily with the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.

The walkways are nice and the pictures of the area are super nice so it was tempting for us to go despite knowing the man made features. It was also an included stop with our guide.

We had troubles figuring out a bus to get to the area on our own and the travel center we found was closed by the time we got there so we asked for help from our hotel. Our friends have also gotten help through their hotels and the prices have ranged from 360 to 380 and includes transport to/from, a down jacket rental (not needed in July but might be good for rain), an oxygen tank or two and lunch (chicken hot pot with yak meat as an appetizer). Our guide took us through the park to get to scenic areas and the bus stops.

You might be able to do the area on your own if you know Mandarin well but the things we were thankful for a guide for were all the health checks on the way into the park. Our guide also knew exactly where to go to make a quick and efficient trip of the area.

What a place to visit! Not only does the water look amazing, but being able to have the mountain in the background makes for amazing photos.

I think I was lucky to go at a time where people are still nervous about traveling so it wasn't overly crowded though there were many couples taking wedding photos which made it difficult for tourists to take decent photos without having anyone on them.

If you are a bit patient, you will be able to take some amazing shots though!

As all touristic spots, I strongly recommend to go early during the day as to avoid the crowd. As it's very close to the mountain, you may want to decide which one you prefer most (if you plan on visiting both), and I think the Blue Moon Valley is more worthy.

Popular place we did ahead of climbing the Jade Dragon snow mountain. Guide tried to get us to rent a golf cart after the coach drop off but there was no need, just take the coach down to the next stop and you can walk the full length and back past the various pools, waterfalls and nice scenery. I read that some of this place is man made but it looks incredible to be fair and they do a great job of managing the vast numbers of visitors - yes it takes away from the natural experience but its made specifically for mass tourism.

I actually love seeing the yaks posing for pics and all the brides and grooms posing in their wedding gear. Maybe its a bit random but I found it entertaining.

If you're in the area you can't miss it!

This place appears to be an old runoff stream that has been dammed At various points to create lake/pond things. I’m not convinced that the blueness is natural, like Lake Louise in Canada is. The water looked cloudy and I didn’t see any sign of life. However around the lake were thousands of signs of life. Mostly in the form of brides and grooms and photographers. So many people. There are some man made water fall things, made to look like limestone encrusted cascades of blue water. Even the metal handrails were painted to look wood. That was probably the most interesting thing! It was very Disney.

It's kind of natural Disneyland... Of course the park is nice, the views are awesome when the weather is appropriate. But be ready to queue to enter the park, to queue to get tickets, to queue to get in the bus, to queue to take the cableway. Try to find some distant and less crowded paths to enjoy the walk without the usual crowd.
Also don't be too enthusiastic about the blue moon lake, all waterfalls are fake, and probably the color too. And that's a shame in such natural wonder.

The ponds/lakes have a beautiful blue (difficult to enjoy with the hordes of tourists and newly weds being photographed).
But we lost date in the place when we noticed that all cascades are in fact fake rocks like you would find in Disneyland. Makes you wonder what else is real or fake.

A disappointment...
