Just came back from Yunnan last week and had a great time with Yunnan Adventure travel
We are a group of 6 Australian, aged between 27-35, and spend 10 days on the classic tour
kunming-Dali-Lijang-Shangrila. This was a private tour with the same driver, but different tour guide at each location
When we first arrived in Kunming, we were greeted a warm welcome from the tour guide David Deng. He is a friendly but chatty fellow with good knowledge of Yunnan. However, he is extremely energetic and walks at a fast pace. Luckily most of group members were very fit and survived his 2.5hr hike around the backroads of the stone forest.

Dali is probably my favorite place out of the whole trip. Er hai lake is gorgeous and we get to see how bai minorities lived their lives. Our tour guide Li wei is extremely helpful and wanted us to experienced local culture. He even told us he not taking us to the "touristy" restaurants, but to a local bai minority restaurant instead, wanting us to experience the culture. True enough, we are the only aussies there is this very local restaurant. In addition, one of our members got sick during the trip. Li went above and beyond and took him to hospital, waited for 2.5 hrs until our member can look after himself.

As for lijang, although it is extremely beautiful with the old buildings, i found the place way too touristy. Yet our tour guide Sophie was a young optimistic person who speaks her mind. She was extremely helpful, took us to try really good local tea, massage and also arranged lunch for sick members of of group who decided to stay in the hotel.

Shangrila was an experience. We had a Tibetan guide who learned his English in India but is extremely knowledgeable in Buddhism. The Songzanlim lamastary was amazing, so different from any other chinese temples i visited. Yet i do recommend to visit shangrila in another season, since everything is dried out during winter.

The person we all have to thank for this trip is Mr Feng, our driver. Without him, we might not be alive today. He is a local Tibetan from Shangri-la, and he saved us from the shangri-la fire, which burnt the old town down. Our hotel was just outside the old town (across the road) and i got a call at 3:30 pm from the hotel warning us about the fire. We immediately packed our stuff and moved downstairs. I called Mr Feng immediately to get him to pick us up. Although the hotel told we should be safe, since the wind is not blowing our way, i knew the fire could not be contained since the water pump froze and fire brigade rushed to our hotel to ask fro fire extinguishers. Mr Feng came 20 minutes later after my call, we observed the fire for another 30min, before he decided to take all of us to his house to take refugee. His wife even cooked us tea and breakfast and we will be forever grateful on what he did.

Although we had a great trip with Yunnan Adventure, I still think there are 2 thing the tour company could improve one
1stly, the accommodation in Dali was poor. Lan Lin Ge had no hot water for 2/3 rooms and the toilets were not working for one of them. They even charge of our member for cleaning fee after he spewed everywhere (he had no choice since nothing is working)

2ndly, the tour is still a little bit pricy for 10 days. We were charged 80 rmb for lunch per person yet the dishes i saw does not add up to 80rmb per person. I understand the tour is more pricy since it doesn't take you to souvenir shops and force you to buy stuff, $1600 usd is still a bit pricy for 10 days in china.

Nevertheless, Yunnan adventure still provides great tours with comforable buses. I will still recommend any other people this tour if you like to visit Yunnan

We went to Yunnan China from 20th -29th October 2018.

Halal food is easily available throughout Yunnan.

There were halal restaurants in Kunming, Dali, Lichiang and even in Shangri La. Just tell the guide you need halal food and they will be able to bring you to some good restaurants. Do note however that they mostly Chinese style dishes. Coming from Singapore , we enjoyed the Chinese style stir fried vegetables and beef with rice . And noodles too.

We had brought along a small cooker just in case and it came in handy to prepare breakfast. We didn’t take the breakfast at the hotels.

We stayed at Holiday Inn at Kunming . Two mosques (Namcheng mosque and Yongning mosque) were walking distance to the hotel and there were many halal eateries nearby. We visited the Stone Forest and Jiuxiang caves.

From Kunming, we went to Dongchuan to see the Red lands. Only for Dongchuan, We had to take some prepacked food . The staff at the lodge also gave us some fresh vegetables which we cooked on our own .

We stayed two nights at Dali near the Erhai lake. We also visited the ancient town and found 2 mosques within the ancient town itself. There was a good restaurant outside one of the mosques. We visited the scenic Erhai lake ,

In Lijiang, we visited a mosque and the ancient town. Then we visited the Jade dragon snow mountain, and Blue Moon Valley . Most of the halal restaurants in Lijiang are owned by Muslims from Dali.

On the way to Shangri La, we visited Tiger Leaping Gorge. And in Shangri La, we visited the old town and Pudacuo National Park
The guide told us that there is a Muslim village in Shangri La but it is about 300 kn away.

Back in Kunming , we saw a halal bakery named Bread works on the way to the airport. We couldn’t stop but were lucky to find the same bakery outlet at the international departure lounge at the airport

Yunnan is a beautiful place and you will find many reviews on the places to visit. I am specifically writing to let Muslim travelers know they need not worry about finding halal food.

Just pack your bags and go...

And enjoy the wonders of beautiful Yunnan.

My trip was 12 days in Yunnan. It was tailor-made to include the locations that I was most interested in visiting. This included Yuanyang, Jianshui, Shilin, Dali, Shaxi, Lijiang, Tiger Leaping Gorge and Lugu Hu.
The consultant was Kelly. The guides were Joe, Amy and Sophie. The drivers were Joe and the Yu brothers.
Their tour agency was selected by me after I sent inquiries and received quotes from multiple agencies in Yunnan.
These are my overall comments of their people who specifically provided tour services for me.
They do quality work in a professional, reliable and cooperative manner.
They are great people who are helpful, courteous and trustworthy.
Their consultant and guides are very competent with the logistics, English and coordination.
Their consultant, guides and drivers are very knowledgeable with the locations, transport and guidance.
I’m very satisfied that I chose them for my tour of Yunnan.
In my opinion, I’d like to recommend them to other foreign travelers who are interested in arranging a tour of Yunnan with an excellent local tour agency.

We just returned from an 8 day trip to Yunnan with this company. We had a very good experience with Cindy, the organizer of our tour. She was efficient and helpful. We arrived in Kunming and were so disappointed with our guide and driver. The guide spent most of his time chatting with the driver and wasn't very knowledgeable. He took us to a terrible place for lunch and after lunch left us in the HOT car, without the engine running for more than five minutes while, we assume, he and the driver went to another building to pay the bill. I asked if we could stop at a Starbucks so I could get a coffee and buy a Kunming cup, but he refused, even though we drove right past one. Very poor service skills and very disappointing. If you book a Kunming tour with this company, avoid Steven. Very unhappy experience. We then went on to Dali. Both driver and guide were good. Aaron was informative and helpful. The places he took us were nice. Delicious lunch. Nice local experiences. In Lijiang we also had a nice time. Sophie was very knowledgeable and my daughter enjoyed chatting with her! Finally we went to Shangrila. Our guide there was okay. Nice but not very informative. Perhaps Atun is more suitable for trekking tours than for explaining local culture. Think twice before booking. Our first guide/driver gave us a bad impression for the rest of our trip. Also a bit overpriced for the quality.....

I brought my parents for a tour to Yunnan. Kelly, our tour consultant was very efficient when it comes to our tour arrangements. Our tour guides spoke very good English and did an excellent job, especially Nancy from Dali. We were very impressed with her knowledge and services. The hotels that were booked for us were acceptable, except for the hotel in shangrila which was quite poorly maintained and dirty. Otherwise we were quite happy with the trip. We had an enjoyable family time in Yunnan. Will definitely recommend their services in future.

What a fantastic day. My wife and I were there last month as part of a 19 day tour of China. We had been to China before, so this trip was to places off the normal tourist route. All the arrangements and a guide and transportation were provided by China Tours. We had a great time, but were limited to seeing only the Yak Meadow due to health issues. It was well worth the effort and time.

The Impression Lijang show is totally different and unexpected, even though it is explained before you go. The show tells the story of the Nakhi people in song, music and motion in a fairly large outdoor amphitheater with multi-tiered performance platforms. The ever changing scenes and flow of the various ethnic groups in native dress on deck and and on horseback is most impressive and interesting. Large screen displays help with English translations and explanations. A must do if in the area.

Nothing prepared us for the unforgettable tour that Yunnan Adventure Travel and guide, Sophie had in store for us. As soon as we left our Hotel, we headed straight for the National Park of which Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, Spruce Meadow, Blue Moon Valley, the Impression Lijiang Show, the Naxi Village and Baisha Murals are all a part of.
As we drove through the vast arid landscape leading to the bus station entrance of the park, Sophie requested our driver to stop in certain places from where we could take great photos of the snow capped Jade Dragon Mountain looming in the distance.
Once we reached the cable car station after a short bus ride, it was up, up and away, amidst glorious mountain scenery towards Spruce Meadow-a grassy area surrounded by spruce trees, grazed upon by goats and sheep. The meadow which is crested by the Jade Dragon Mountain, is held sacred by the Naxi people. The walk from the cable car station to the meadow is through a forest and it's not uncommon to see lambs and goats run around and munch on a twig or two. Around the meadow are stalls manned by indigenous people, it was here that Sophie recommended that my daughters and I dress up in traditional attire and take photos.
Next we made our way down by cable car to the buggy station, as we were to travel to the glacial lakes of Moon Valley. As Sophie explained, minerals in the lakes make them change colour during every season. We were lucky to see vivid blue and green water and very clear views of the surrounding mountains and forests. The walk by the lakes is very intelligently designed with boardwalks and paved paths. Since the area is very romantic, we were privy to many a pre wedding photo shoot. What excited our daughters the most however, was seeing a pair of white yaks, in the company of an authentic Naxi tribal.
Much photography later, we caught a shuttle bus to the open air venue of the Impressions Show. This jaw dropping spectacle of music, dance and drama conceptualised and directed by famed Chinese film director, producer, writer, actor, and former cinematographer, Zhang Yimou, has hundreds of ethnic people from neighbouring villages as its actors, horsemen and musicians. The show which takes place thousands of feet above sea level is set against the backdrop of snow capped mountains.
Lunch was immediately after in an authentic Nexi village restaurant, where we feasted on fresh local delicacies before taking a leisurely walk through the town, watching people go about their everyday tasks and hearing about their ways from Sophie. The highlight was visiting the Embroidery Institute with its spectacular award winning displays and watching students hard at work. Sophie's eye for detail drew our attention to Naxi "grannies", elderly women who are care givers of their grand children while their parents are busy at work; and to cute "tile cats" that adorn many a village roof, protecting the homes and its occupants from evil.
The Baisha murals which Sophie took us to next were very interesting in their detail and it was amazing to know of their significance and extent of survival through the ages, thanks to her knowledgeable and detailed commentary.
Our last stop was a stroll with Sophie through Lijiang Ancient Town, being a local, she knew all of its intricacies and encouraged us to sample many a local delicacy.
If I could turn back time, I would play this day back in a loop! Thank you Yunnan Adventure Travel and Sophie for making it spectacular for us.

Trekking along Tiger Leaping Gorge isn’t for the faint of heart, but well worth it! The guide, Linda, is native to the area and very helpful and knowledgeable. She’s also encouraging to two 50+ year olds hiking where only 20 & 30 somethings were going. The trek starts out going straight up and doesn’t let up much the first day. But lunch at the NaXi Family Restaurant is VERY welcome and VERY GOOD. The first afternoon is challenging along 28-bend trail, but the vista view is AMAZING and worth the climb atop a 3000m height.

Reaching the halfway point by late afternoon, we were settled into the upgraded Shan Mei Hotel which was VERY welcome!!! Gorgeous view, excellent accommodations and friendly family hosts. Dinner and breakfast were both at the hotel and very satisfying.

Day 2 was quite easy compared to day one as we mostly climbed downwards. We saw a dramatic waterfall and enjoyed the trek. Lunch was at Tina’s and then we drove back to the upper Gorge to view it up close. We descended 500 steps to see the gorge’s rushing power, then climbed the same distance back up. We ended our journey in Shangrila at E-Outfitting Boutique Hotel. Rustic in style, but clean and very comfortable.

FABULOUS trip and our guide, Linda, was AMAZING! We highly recommend this trek, but be aware that it is a bit difficult at times.

We could not have been happier with the excellent service provided by Yunnan Adventure Travel. We did 5 days trekking around the Tiger Leaping Gorge, 3 nights in Shanghai & 3 in Beijing all arranged by Yunnan Adventure Travel including internal flights, Bullet Train ride, accommodation and sightseeing.
Was all extremely well organised, any questions promptly and thoroughly answered, guides knowledgeable, friendly, spoke good English and drivers were all very good.
I would certainly use Yunnan Adventure Travel again and would strongly recommend them to anyone contemplating a trip in China. They were fantastic to deal with in all respects.

Three of us visited Lijiang for 4 days - I have visited many places in China, I believe that Lijiang is among the most beautiful. We so enjoyed learning about the Naxi ethnic people and Dongba culture. We had an excellent guide Jack Ma of lijiang (@adamlijiang). Jack speaks very good English and he is very knowledgeable about the culture. Jack took us to the best attractions - we didn't have enough days to see it all, so he made sure that we saw the best. I recommend Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, take the cable car to Yak meadow. Incredible! Old authentic temple there too. We went to the show Impressions, also worth it, best if your weather not too hot, we were glad we had raincoats. We saw Tiger Leaping Gorge - awesome! If the stairs down are too much, you can take a sedan chair and be carried like royalty (my husband did this!) We saw several temples, museums, and spent a morning at a really beautiful park in Old Town Lijiang. Jack took us to good restaurants, had good clean comfortable transportation, always had water for us, and he had a way of getting us around many of the long lines that were inevitable due to our travel time during Golden Week. I recommend Lijiang. And Jack Ma as your guide.
