The lake itself is fine and even now end April had a few crane and bar headed geese not yet gone back to Tibet. The visitor centre adds no value to the experience and the wetland park is an eco-disaster - no surprise there are no birds except fake plastic ones to compensate for the ruined environment. Pitiful loudspeakers complete the fakery.
That said if you arrive early say 8am before the crowds the experience is peaceful and worthwhile
i saw the horses but no touts

This lake is A very nice to visit. This a very big place to spend about two to three hours. This is a long walk but don't miss it. It is a very impressive view.

We were with Lily Zhang of Xintou Yunnan Ecotourism and we cycled all the way round the lake from Laishihai, We visited the Budhist Tenple and many little villages. Lily's family, Naxi farmer's, live in Laishihai and she knows thepeople and area so very well!
It was a super day.

Full of Chinese tourists taking horse back rides (with completely disinterested tour operators). Nearby lake - trash filled irrigation ditches adjoining the fields. "Boat tour" is in a dirty rowboat for 20 minutes. Compared to Erhai Lake in Dali - this is not at all beautiful / maintained and far comparison. We regretted paying for the horseback riding/ boat tour to this area.

Lashi Lake is a beautiful natural location where people go there to ride on horses and row in the lake. The horse farms there are totally unscrupulous and will totally rip you off if they can. For a package offered by Lijiang tour operators that include transfers, lunch, horse ride and boating the highest rate is probably RMB380. At these horse vendors they would try to sell the RMB680 package, with lies about how the cheaper packages wouldn't get you to some of the more beautiful scenes, which is totally untrue as the routes in the mountain are rather standard. The ride itself can be enjoyable and the view stunning but do not fall into the traps of these horrid vendors, especially one called 茶马印象, horse operator No. 7.

Lashi Lake is a very nice lake just outside Lijiang. At the lake, you can go horseback riding or take a ride on a pole boat. None of the guides speak any English, so unless you're Chinese, you will have a silent horseback ride and boat trip, just looking at the view. The horseback riding is expensive by Chinese standards at about 380 RMB ($55) Per Person including a short pole boat ride on the lake . These are not private tours, though for us they ended up being that way.
The horseback ride is on quite small horses that are well behaved and stick to the trail for the most part without any effort by you. The ride up the hill is steep, and it had been raining recently so it was very muddy and the horses were slipping all over, kind of freaky, but they didn't fall. You stop in a meadow so a couple old Naxi ladies can sell you nuts to feed the horses for about 4 RMB. The guide just rode behind us and kept the horses on track. You ride up the hill through the forest, then can hike up a little further on foot to a viewpoint where on a nice day, you can look out over Lijiang. Our day was cloudy, so not much view for us. Back down the hill through the forest, slipping horses on concrete steps, then a long, boring ride down the road to the lake. Nothing to see, no guiding unless you were Chinese - just fields.
Once at the lake, you're dumped off into the mud and get to walk the rest of the way through the mud to the lake where you get on a long boat. Your driver poles you out into the lake, which on a clear day is pretty, silently gliding along as you hear the screams from the Chinese tour groups on the other boats laughing and yelling and snapping photos of each other. We did see one hawk on a snag in the middle of the lake where we turned around and went back. Lasted about 20 minutes or so. Pretty boring because there wasn't really anything to look at - it is a lake, so you can see just as much from shore as you can from the lake.
All in all, we felt a bit ripped - for this price, you'd think that it would at least be interesting. Not recommended. There are companies that will take you bike riding from Lijiang to the lake, that would probably be more fun as long as your guide spoke English or you spoke Chinese. Lashi Lake is pretty, but it's just a lake. There's really not much attraction here from the lake itself - it's the horseback riding, pole boats, and biking or hiking that would provide some attraction. There is a little store onsite, but no restaurants or those type of facilities.

This was our first time in Lijiang. We wanted something to enjoy as a family as certain places like the mountains or the wetlands might not be suitable for kids due to altitude sickness.
We decided to go to Lashi Lake area and we took a pony ride (great to pick the entire route around the mountains) approximately for 2 hours. Though this was our maiden ride, but we do feel like cowboys. Another plus point, it was ride uphill and descending through the terrains which is both fun and safe for kids.
You can also look at the beautiful Lashi Lake from the top and the guide would let us have a stop to take a good look at the place.
After the ride, we took a boat ride around the lake and this time we could take a closer look at the scenic mountains. For those who are adventurous, you could choose to paddle a kayak.

My families and I went horse riding along the ancient business route. The horses are cute. My parents and brother had so much fun! Afterwards, we sail on the lake with a canoe. We even had grilled fish on the canoe. This is my best travel experience indeed!

Lashi Lake is a beautiful place near Lijiang / Shuhe. The surrounding of thh Lake are gorgeous with some small villages, nice forests, Etc. We went there to have a Horse ride for the kid and he also loved it.
On the other hand:
* I would not be there in High season >> We were lucjy enough to be there in low season and you could see so many Bus parking / horses that I assume it should be awful when crowded
* This is clearly a tourist trap with pricing advertised up to 680 Yuans for 1H horse riding and a small boat tour on the lake. You get the same service at less than 100 Yuan with tours back in town and you need therefore to negotiate. Unfortunately this waste a little the experience as you have the feeling to get ripped of
* The place is very nice but most people throw their garbage everywhere and they are wasting the beautiful environment they have the chance to live in. I deeply hope they'll understand soon what a waste they are creating!
* Last point is that they do not have any safety equipments for horse riding... You would expect at least a riding helmet for the kids but none were proposed

The overpriced horse ride (Min RMB180-RMB480) which our family was not interested due to young children. Hence the in-charged person said if we wanted to see Lashi Lake, we MUST pay him RMB100 per person (children/adult) to visit his Rose Garden. They are total 5 of us, hence, we have to pay him RMB500 to see the Rose Garden where the plants were wilting. I can’t even see Lashi Lake properly and can’t even see any birds as per described by the driver. What I could see were those wilting plants. I don’t mind paying RMB500 if we managed to see the lake as per described but it was really unfair for us as a tourist being wrongly guided by this irresponsible group of people. Very disappointed. I will goto Napa Lake than Lashi Lake.
