Excellent show.

Excellent show. Tells a very good story of the history of Lijiang and the people. Music and performance was really entertaining and informative. It’s a perfect end of a tour.

Impressive set and songs

Yulong snow mountain provided a majestic backdrop or this songs and dance show by locals. It has been going on for years and indeed deserve a visit.

Beautiful backdrop and an enchanting performance
Dec 2019 • Solo
Was apprehensive amidst the mixed reviews about the show. However, decided to watch it since I would be in Lijiang.
It’s definitely worth the money and time.
Although it was not exactly easy to secure a single ticket as I was travelling alone and is not local. The online booking website is definitely not friendly to foreign travellers.

The backdrop is indeed stunning. Weather was great on the day of my visit and the snow capped mountains greeted the audience. I felt that the show was a sincere showcase of the ethnicity of the minority tribes of Yunnan — their dance, songs, costumes and their passion. Parts of the performance were touching and heartwarming.

Not a cogent presentation

I realize that this is a "must do" for visitors to Lijiang, but I fail to see much relevance to Lijiang or its history or culture. There are costumes, horses, a cast of hundreds, and even a loose plot dealing with clouds and lovers. Even the cousin and wife of our guide Nongbu are among the cast members. He says it is a coveted job in Lijiang.
We arrived late and had to find whatever seats available. The subtitles help a little but the meaning of the text is rather abstract.
The weather was good as the venue is outside. Afterwards we helped ourselves to free red baseball caps.

Magnificent stage but not up to my expectation
Sep 2019
With Jade Snow mountain serving as the backdrop, the scene is spectacular. When I was planning my Lijiang trip, this show was one of the recommend activity. I have set a high expectation (maybe too high). Eventually, it turned out not really impressed.

The music and the background is amazing but it's too hard for me to really understand and feel the cultural message in the show. The English subtitle is small. I barely read it and watch the show at the same time.

If you want to book the show, watch out for weather forecast. I was sitting under the rain the whole time of the show. And when it rains, you will see nothing but fog in the background.

So so show but watch out for the weather
Apr 2019
All these localised cultural shows I have seen around China have been in the evenings. This one is in the middle of the day, which affected how much I enjoyed the show a lot. As usual, you get the wonderful scenic backdrop and an epic and lavish stage with hundreds of performers all dressed up in colourful costumes. I only enjoyed the drums piece while the others seemed less interesting. Unfortunately, being an open amphitheatre, there is no shelter from the scorching sun, which can be very intense due to the high altitude. Umbrellas may obstruct the view for others so it’s best if you bring along some scarves to wrap your exposed areas. Personally I would skip this show unless the weather is favourable.

Kind of underwhelming

I had watched the impression show in Wuyi mountains and had expected the Lijiang impression show to be as good. I was however quite disappointed as this Lijiang version is not as good. The choreography was messy and there wasn’t a story line. There was no lighting effects. Many people had left mid way into the show.

This is definitely not a must do show.

Not exciting and hard to understand
Jun 2019 • Couples
We watched the performance for free as part of our visit, but were very underwhelmed by the performance. Compared to the director's other work in Guilin, this paled in comparison. The show attempted to represent the different ethnic groups of Yunnan, but it did a poor job of doing so, reducing them to being more as less similar "minorities". Although the backdrop with the Yulong Snow Mountain was fantastic, the acts in the performance were bland and uninspired, even if the choreography of the performers was on point. When we watched the performance, the sun was blazing hot - the lack of covers meant that those without sunglasses and sufficient water would suffer from the heat. In all, not a show I would recommend watching, though the performance venue is worth visiting for the backdrop alone.

Open space show is killing
May 2019 • Friends
Not me, not again, I won't go for such show in the open under the extremely hot sun! Really killing, under such scorching sun we need to sit in the open and hardly could we use umbrella to get protected. I couldn't enjoy the show, not even knew what was going on, so i left as many others did. I paid salute to those who had stayed till the end.

Loved it!
Jul 2019
Even though we visited on a really overcast day and couldn’t see the mountain, this was brilliant. We particularly enjoyed how it celebrates the ethnic minorities of Yunnan through song and dance. The choreography was great and there is a scrolling display with English subtitles which was helpful. Highly recommended. It’s a shame about all the rude and ignorant Chinese tour groups who don’t know how to behave, arriving late/ leaving early/ talking/ talking phone calls/ trying to use their umbrella when it started to rain etc, but if you’ve been in China more than a day you just learn to grit your teeth and try to ignore it.
