Want to see what your restaurant in the Old Town serves you before they cook it? Don't miss the meat and fish. Or maybe it's time to consider becoming vegan?

Prepare yourself for an assault on the senses .Absolutely teaming with people .Full of wonderful looking fruit and veg and not so wonderful very questionable looking meat !!!! Not to be missed if only to remind you that where ever you live in the world is peaceful compared to this ...

See locals at the everyday market

Get your fresh fruits, vegetables, and household items here! It was great to see all the action at this daily market. We saw some locals dressed in their traditional clothing, some market vendors doing a dance/exercise routine, and even tried some tasty steamed buns (corn flavoured) that were a great value!

Don't miss this wet market.

Zhongyi Market is a traditional local wet market that sells vegetables, fruits, farm produce to the locals. It has many stalls selling foodstuff and snacks like the little steamed buns and the ubiquitious "guo qiao mi xian" or crossing the bridge noodle, a rice noodle soup, famous throughout Yunnan. It is a huge area and takes a full morning if you want to see everything. It is actually an extension of the Old Town and takes only 15 minutes walk from Sifang Square. This market is bound in by the Changshui Road, a major busy road which has plenty of shops and traditional eating shops, itself an attraction. Nearby there is a nice garden where people practise taiqi and dances in the morning. For a change I switched from the traditional inns of the old town to the comfort of modern hotel along this Changshui Road. Just across this market, there are at least 3 of such hotels (3 stars upwards) and many more down/up the streets. It would be a pity if you are so near to this market and miss visiting it.
