We had an incredible food tour with Apple in Dali Old Town. I added Apple on WeChat and she was able to accommodate our dates and times.
We had the opportunity to do a fantastic street food tour in late June and it did not disappoint. We loved that this tour was all about the local culture and history of Dali and every food vendor we visited on the tour, allowed us to see what Dali cuisine was all about. We noticed Apple’s personal relationship with most of the vendors right away and her knowledge of the ingredients, method of cooking, and flavours were impressive. Each vendor we tried was amazing! As a vegetarian, I was so happy that Apple was able to make accommodations for me so that I could still try nearly all of the food on the tour. The fried cheese and rose syrup was probably my favourite! We also loved the rice cake wraps and went back for more during the rest of our stay in Dali. In fact, since we couldn’t try all of the delicious street food (we were thoroughly stuffed by the end of the tour) Apple gave us lots of recommendations of food to try. She went above and beyond our expectations, sharing personal stories that made us love the food even more and we are so glad that we had a chance to experience Dali old town with her. Next time we are back in Yunnan, will definitely try and book another tour with her!

If you want to experience some true, authentic Lijiang and Naxi food, this is the perfect tour for you. Each tour is customized, so each experience is a little different. But we tried about a dozen small bites, plus we went for a pu’er tea tasting. Each restaurant/still had a great relationship with our guide, Apple. She was able to get us the best, freshest dishes available. The tea tasting was great because the old town is liked with tea shops that are intimidating if you are not knowledgeable about tea. This experience was great and we learned some great things about pu’er tea and other local Yunnan teas.

When we come back to Yunnan, we will definitely contact Apple again, either for another food tour, or as a hiking guide.

We spent one week in Yunnan Province in the middle of a month long trip to China. Our knowledgable and personable guide, Apple, taught us about the rich variety of ingredients and culinary delights that this rich agricultural region has to offer. We toured local markets, sampled a variety of market snacks, and ate in restaurants that served dishes that incorporated an incredible array of freshly picked local vegetables and freshly cut meats. At each restaurant, Apple ordered dishes that used the freshest ingredients so that every meal was memorably excellent. On our last day, Apple decided to cook lunch for us in the home of a local family. We shopped for ingredients at a local market - watching Apple navigate the stalls and haggle prices was fascinating! - and then we cooked simple yet delicious dishes under her supervision. The meal included fried tofu with chile salt, lotus root salad with peanuts, lily bud stir fry, broad bean stir fry, and a simple soup with fresh greens. In short, Apple is not only deeply knowledgeable about the culture and cuisine of this region, but she is also very personable and highly engaging. We enjoyed every minute that we spent with her and wish we could have stayed longer!

We spent a great morning in Lijiang on a breakfast food tour. Our guide Apple was knowledgeable and had excellent English skills. She was patient with our questions and need to stop for many photographs. We did this tour after 5 weeks in China and close to 3 weeks in Yunnan so we had had the opportunity to try many things but Apple still was able to expand our horizons further ! Highly recommend this tour as a way to find out more about the foods of Yunnan.
