Very ancient place full of shops and bars. Overcrowded but worthy to visit. Very big needs at least to days to finish. Many sightseeing like temples, churches and museum. Best place in Dali. Don't miss it .

Dali is cool. No doubt about it. It's a bit of a tourist trap, and scooters and cars traverse the busy streets, which makes it not quite as awesome as Lijiang and not quite as authentic as Shaxi. But, the food is incredible, the people...More

Jam packed with Chinese tourists. Not really quaint at all. Good restaurants. Predictable shopping. We like Lijiang more although apparently many people say the opposite.

This ancient town is not too big, but it is enough to discover within half a day. Went up the North Gate for an aerial view of the town. South Gate has a history over 600 years and this gate is the oldest building of...More

Great little shops and restaurants and things to see and look at and to taste and try. Definitely worth a visit and make sure you have a few hours to spare.

The old town of Dali is a very busy place full of shops, bars and restaurants. The vast majority of tourists are Chinese with a sprinkling of westerners. Try to avoid going in bars with live music as they tend to be very expensive, they...More

Dali ancient town transforms into a vibrant and colourful place at night with its beautifully-lit gates, watch towers, traditional dances, flowing streams and cafes. A great place to experience the fusion of the old and new.

Dali Ancient town is not so bad, it’s worth the few hours to take a walk around the place but it is not a place you would travel to see in isolation. We visited in a relatively quiet time and it was still pretty packed...More

We entered the ancient town from the South Gate and climbed up to one of the temples for a view of the ancient town from above. As with many ancient streets in China, the main reason a lot of people visit is for shopping. However,...More
