Quite a home from long ago days. The rooms and accommodation just go on and on, though specific allocations are made for the young and elderly family members. The courtyards are nicely laid out, but need a bit of TLC.

This is the village where The Linden Centre is located. If you are not staying at the Linden Centre you should really come here for a day to explore the narrow alleyways, the old houses and of course to visit the Linden Centre for lunch or a tea on their amazing back terrace. The village has a really good morning market every morning and if you hire bikes or a horse and cart you could do a nice trip down the the tongue of Er Hai lake and explore some other villages on your way.

Visited 候庐.
There was a guide who shared about the unique architecture, which was quite interesting (“三坊一照壁,四合五天井”). The introduction lasted 15+ minutes and ended at a room which basically is a shop front selling silver accessories and utensils.
There was also a Bai cultural performance and tea tasting (3 different types).
Worth a visit but skip the shop front unless you are interested in silver stuff.

Pretty much a tourist trap. Entrance fee of RMB 60/ head is way too much, given the quarter-hearted "tour" in strong Dali village accent and "brand new" architecture (nothing ancient about it). The rooms downstairs were properly furnished... Gives you the chance to sit on antique furniture. Don't bother going upstairs as its just one tea shop after another. Didn't really go near the stage area coz we could hear em from the courtyard.
What I do recommend is a FREE walk OUTSIDE the white walls where the real ancient architecture & temples are. We had a blast entering a 60 year old temple managed by senior citizens... Truly amazing prayer rituals, ancient kitchens & living habits.
Walk into the Xizhou village square, and you'll find some shops selling BaBa ... There's one with a long queue, you'll know it by its original charcoal "oven" :)
We chose the vegetarian version... The aroma of roasted rose & honey jam on warm fluffy Baba bread was just heavenly!!!! We didn't bother with the Q and just bought it from the shop next door... Delish!

As far as other reviewers are saying, the building itself is indeed less than a couple decades old. Admission (30 RMB without the dancers) is a fair price to see what's essentially a replica of a typical Bai architectural design, which is essentially what you're getting. If you're into architecture, then you'll still enjoy touring through the compound.
Being rather new, everything there is pretty fresh, and not "ancient" or "old" looking at all. The family that owns it has ties to the provincial gov't, and some members still actually live in the compound. The place itself was built to sell tickets, but at the same time, exists to promote the Bai culture & architecture. If that's what you're looking for, then this place will be just fine to visit.

If you like architectural design, this is one place that you don't want to miss! It is a two storey high building with very fine artwork, caligraphy and paintings by Bai Ethnic. The design was impressive. I was particulary attracted by its big screen wall facing east. It will reflect the sunlight into other rooms.
The visit also includes cultural performance by Bai people, traditional wedding and Three cups of tea (San Dao Cha) ceremony. It is duplicate show if you plan to take Erhai Cruise by Ferry. In fact, the show in Ferry is much better than performance here.
It is worth the visit.

Only maintained a few houses in the place as a showcase for the Bai Tribe. However I was fascinated by their wood carving works on their doors & buildings. There is a dance show every hour showcasing cultural heritage. But you have to jostle with the crowd for seats.

A worthwhile experience to see a bit of the Bai culture, set in a very large old Bai house. Short entertainment by people in traditional dress. English subtitles flashed across the top of the stage. 60 Yuan entrance fee, probably a bit high, but there you go, this is China!

This village consists of typical Bai minority village life with open air market and regular small mom andpop type stores. Having a guide he brought us to a wonderful courtyard hiome to see how some of the villagers live. Very interesting. It ws raining that day which made it a little bit difficult to enjoy the walking but on a good weather day I highly recommend your seeing how people truly live and work.

The bai architecture is very interesting even if you know nothing about architecture ( like me) as it tells the story of the household and it's history. Each house tells a story about what the householder does for a living, who heads etc the bai people often have women as head of household which is unusual in china. The houses have white walls in the main courtyard to reflect the afternoon sun on the main part of the house..l.not only beautiful but functional architecture.
