Eclectic mix of restaurants, shops, and hotels. Don't be alarmed by the homeless that hang out in front of a few restaurants, however. I have found them to be friendly and non-threatening. I've bought several a few meals and they have been quite grateful and genuinely kind.

The area is charming with a lot of restaurants but after sundown, be careful walking alone. The neighborhood is overrun with homeless men who aggressively cat call and demand money. There is not a great police presence so walk with a group or go straight from car to wherever you're going.…

I assume it is a happening place at night. A couple of blocks. Still up n coming. Not yet there. The pancake place looked promising and scads of hotels.

Five Points South is the whole world spanning decades in one location! Unique experience... throw back in fast forward.
OMGosh! Love Five Points South. A record store hidden at the top of what feels like a secret stairway and you are a cool kid who knows about it! It’s a place frozen in (vinyl) time. It’s an original that Portland copied. A coffee shop (Filter Coffee Parlor) that could very well be in the Arts District in San Francisco. Speaking of, you gotta sit by that fountain with the animal statues sitting and listening to “The Storyteller.” The Original Pancake House serves copious cups of coffee, pancakes a zillion different ways (and they’re all good), bacon and eggs galore. A side street feels like France with Chez FonFon and Highlands (James Beard Award winning chefs). On another ‘in between point’ is The Black Market restaurant that feels like a schizophrenic British Pub with a fireplace inside and seating on the patio outside. A BBQ joint sits next to a Thai restaurant... and to top it all off, the Best Vegan restaurant in America anchors the end of the block! It’s store is ‘60’s hip with a real people vibe. Five Points South is the whole world spanning decades in one location!…
