Truly A Locals' Market
Oct 2019
Respecting and understanding that this appears to be truly a local, produce and food market in the country of China, I was not concerned about seeing the hanging, dead dogs, nor the bunnies, etc. (don't get me wrong, I didn't love it either, but when in Rome....or at least, in Yanghsuo and every other farmers' market in China...), and I was so fascinated that I kept looking every which way to take it ALL in; the every-vegetable-of-every-color-that-you-can-think-of, the harvest from the sea (frogs, snails, eels) being picked at and cleaned by rubber gloved women, tofu, fruits the size of golf and baseballs, meats and poultry from two-to-four-legged, men gossiping, women haggling, young kids waving hi, and more. If it was not for the fact that we were here primarily to buy items for our cooking class, I would have lingered and taken at all in even more.

Fair warning
Sep 2019 • Couples
Foreign markets are always fascinating, seeing what the locals buy to eat. And you have to travel with an open mind.
So the vegetables were great
The toads, water snakes, snails, turtles, were just about ok.

But the sight of two eviscerated dogs hanging at a meat stall was too much.

You have been warned

Fresh Food and Dead Animals
Dec 2017 • Family
It was quite interesting to see the fresh food and produce market since we saw some very interesting fruits and some very strange looking dead animals hung up in the shop. Have a look at my pics and you will know.

See where the life is
Jan 2016 • Family
All the markets in the Yangshuo and surrounding villages are just amazing places to see what local life is like - what people grow, eat, how they socialise. Do what I do and try to go to as many guilin rice noodle stalls as possible. Every place is different.

Typical market of Chinese farmers
Jun 2015
This is a real Chinese farmer market. You'll find fruits, vegetables and meet. There's a small area where they sell dogs(slaughtered). Don't take pictures, the people don't like to ne photographed there.

Lots of steps but an amazing view
Sep 2013 • Couples
This is a hike in a peak which has LOTS of steps, but it is a great view up the peak.

Up in the top there lives an old man, whom sells water for 5rmb, and i bought to him 3 bottles to drink, I was SOOOO THIRSTY. Then he offered me cigarettes (I don't smoke so I said no) and food, and was sooo nice to us.

The views are amazing (I just created this attraction in Tripadvisor, as soon as it lets me I will post some pics of the hike) but remember, there are more steps than to the other peaks more known around Yangshuo (even though everyone there told me this one was harder but nicer, that's why we chose to go here)

Wet Market Visit
Nov 2013 • Friends
We visited the wet market a couple of times to buy fruit for our breakfasts: mangoes the size of footballs, tennis-ball sized passion fruit, crisp persimmons and tiny, delicious grapes. Wet markets show you what local people eat and I like to see the variety and quality of vegetables available. This one was small but had a huge selection of greens that I've never seen outside China. People are amused to see foreigners in the market and are usually friendly. Great food photo opportunity.

Probably does the job for locals
Aug 2013
This isn't a tourist attraction! I've been to plenty of local produce markets (or wet markets) and this the drabbest. It is all there from a food perspective and the place is a cacophony of human and animal sounds along with the odd motor-bike.

I was also alert to the excellent review below and didn't to venture all the way to the back to see what the reviewer was concerned about. One glance was enough for me.

So, if you want to see where the local Chinese buy their fresh fruit, veg, meat and fish, then sure, visit - but be prepared.
