Highly Recommend Tours with Lilly, she is amazing!! My children and I visited Yangshou and were recommended Lilly from a friend. She was always quick to respond and highly knowledgeable on everything. She was so kind to my children and so accommodating to changes in the scheduled plan. We planned a very busy 4 days and she was there with us at every step and even negotiated better prices for us on additional activities. I would highly recommend her to everyone. Don't hesitate, just send her a message and she will help with rest.
She even has an apartment in Yangshou that is really nicely decorated, comfortable, and very reasonably priced. Make sure to ask for those details.

When we arrived in Yangshuo we traveled alone for the first 2 days ... and we were already disappointed with the trip as most of the places are way too commercial. Fortunately, a friend recommended Lilly to use, and from the moment we met she immediately understood our needs, from the point what we as a foreigner group would expect from such an excursion into nature. She saved us a lot of time knowing which places are interesting and which are not. She was very well connected with the local farmers which helped find the best places and gave us a lot of inside knowledge about the local history. We visited a small guest house for a fantastic lunch, had a surplus to a local farmhouse for the perfect view over a small village, went bamboo rafting, visited some amazing viewpoints, and ended the day with a highly recommended light show and much more .
If you are looking for a real Yangshu experience away from the tourist hassles, your best bet is to contact Lilly.

Overall, we had a fantastic day with her. Many thanks

As a tourleader with regular package-tours to China, I've been using Lilly as a local guide for years now. She reliable, honest, flexible and great with customers. She gives clear, sound advice for activities and prices, and is the best to have around in case of trouble. I absolutely recommend using her, as she is easily the best in town.

I want to personally thank Lilly Lu for taking such good care of me last month during my visit to Yangshou. Before arriving into Yangshou I worked with Lilly through her email address (lulilly12@hotmail.com) to plan the perfect visit to Yangshou, HuangYao and Longi. I sent her countless emails to make sure the plans were all set. She arranged everything for me (lodging, drivers etc). I was travelling alone (which can be a little nerve racking when you don’t speak the language) and she was waiting for me right at the airport to greet me and start our adventure together.

I am a professional photographer (in my spare time) and as a photographer my trips can become pretty demanding. I made countless changes to our original itenary, made her get up at 4AM so I could take sunrise shots like this one  http://voninski.com/image.php?gallery=224&pid=507 . For this shot she put together the fisherman, driver and raft I was shooting from all at the twilight hour of 4AM. We worked together from sunrise to sunset every single day. Another time while driving towards one location I made an on-the-spot decision to modify three days of my trip (which involved switching hotels and locations) and she easily pulled off all of the changes for me. Her professionalism, positive attitude, attention to details and genuine desire to provide me with the greatest Yangshou experience possible was refreshing and memorable.

I wholeheartedly recommend Lilly Lu and will use her services again when travelling through Yangshou. If you have any questions about Lilly or travelling through Yangshou/Longi/HuangYao etc. feel free to send me an email.

To Lilly – Thanks again for all of the hard work you did for me personally the week I spent with you. I cannot wait to come back and introduce you to Veronica and start the adventure all over again!

Lilly took our family on the river rafts, to the Silver Caves, on the Li River rafts and to the town market all around Yangshuo. She was very chatty, friendly and a great guide. We enjoyed all the activities.

We found Lily through other reviews on Trip advisor and contacted her about our upcoming trip to Guilin and Yangshuo as we wanted to visit the Rice Terraces at Ping'an. Lily came back very quickly with a proposed day itineray, picking us from our hotel in Guilin and a private car, driver and herself as guide. I had asked for an early start to our day and Lily arrived bang on time; all through our day she kept us amused with local tales, information on culture - a sheer of mine of information!! Lily sought our advice on the events during the day but, not knowing the area, we were more than happy for her to make decisions for us on the best day to see everything we wanted. We weren't disappointed.

The weather was really bad (very mistly/foggy) on the day WE chose to visit the rice terraces and Lily worked hard to ensure we saw as much as possible as the conditions allowed. We were at View 1 in the thick fog and were about to leave when Lily said we should stay as the fog may clear, we laughed as the idea seemed absurd but within 5 minutes Lily was correct, the fog rolled away long enough for us to get great photos! The value of local knowledge on weather conditions! Lily gave us useful advice on buying goods, when to give 'small money' and how much to get some great photos in the villages. A truly great day- she even bought us hot potatoes to keep out the cold weather and as we ate these we were able to chat to the Ping'an villager (via Lily).

We then bumped into Lily again when we arrived in Yangshuo in Kellys Restaurant which she recommended (great restaurant: separate review given). We wanted to see the cormorant fishing and once again, Lily set up a great evening with a local fisherman and accompanied us all the way acting as guide between us and the fishman (who was good company and a great showman!).

We so highly recommend this special lady - her guide skills are fabulous and she made our trip to this area so memorable.

My wife and I visited the Yangshuo area in September 2010 on our own. We wanted to see some of the major sights and heard about Lilly Lu and her sightseeing/guide service. We contacted her through email and she responded promptly with an excellent plan for us - we did some unique things that she was able to arrange. She also arranged for a driver (or offered to use bicycles or scooters which could have been a lot of fun). We chose the car so we could see more.

Day 1
Bamboo Rafting, Big Banyan Tree National Park, visited local farmers house, Moon Hill, Lunch at an awesome little cafe below Moon Hill, and Cave trekking.

Day 2
Longji Rice Terraces - We chose to see them from Yangshuo - only 2 1/2 private car ride (that she organized) and she made it fun with lots of things to see along the way (tea plantation, etc). She showed us the BEST spots along the way in the Rice Terraces, purchased the tickets for us, and guided us through the entire area. We experienced local villages, translated with many of the workers, and helped to negotiate with some of the merchants.

She even arranged for a private Commorant Fishing experience on the river with a local fisherman that evening. It was incredible! She met us at our hotel on time each day. Lilly Lu is a wonderful person and we are so happy we made a life-long friend with her. She shared a lot of about their culture and history of the area. We HIGHLY recommend Lilly!

Lilly was recommended by friends who had toured Guilin/Yangshou back in 2009.
We arranged our itinerary for 7 days for early April back in January. We waited to finalise one until late February. By then Lilly had committed to another tour group and recommended us to her colleague, Ms Tao.
Lilly had put together a remarkable itinerary covering rafting on the Yulong and Li Rivers; Xianggong: Moon Hill: the Longji Rice Terraces; Liu Sanjie light shows; bike tours etc.
All were very enjoyable especially when Ms Tao showed up unexpectedly to make sure we were well looked after; rescheduled our itinerary due to the weather; re booked us into the light show and recommended us to some very nice restaurants. Ms Tao was most caring and informative.
Despite her busy schedule, Lilly was kind enough to meet us for coffee; we had a long chat and she ensured everything was to our expectations.
Both Lilly and Ms Tao made our trip very pleasant and memorable; we had a great time!

When I was planning for our family trip to Yangshuo, I'd read many posts from tourists complaining about the old women touting their bamboo raft rides on both the Li and Yulong Rivers.  I wanted desperately to avoid this so I contacted Lilly Lu - one of the recommended tour guides for Yangshuo on Trip Advisor.  She was extremely prompt in responding to emails and very helpful in making suggestions for our 1.5 days in Yangshuo, and very detailed in her pricing for each activity.  We also arranged for mini van pick up to and from the Guilin airport to our hotel in Yangshuo.  I'd picked up enough information from reading various sources on the Internet to realize that her prices were very reasonable and competitive, so I quickly agreed to hire her.  No money changed hands at this point - strictly an "honor  system" deal like I've made with countless private guides for Europe.  The guide trusts that you show up as agreed so that he/she doesn't lose money by wasting their time, and you trust that the guide shows up as agreed so that you're not left stranded in a foreign place wasting your valuable vacation time.

What set Lilly apart was her thoughtfulness and ability to make alternate plans on the fly....it had been raining for several days in the Guilin area before our arrival date and all bamboo rafting on the Li and Yulong rivers had been suspended by govt order for the previous 4 days.  The 2 bamboo raft rides were the main reason for our visit to Yangshuo, so we were very disappointed at hearing this news.  Lilly had rain ponchos, bottled water, and cookie snacks ready for us in the minivan, and alternate plans for us to consider.  She remembered that I'd mentioned we would not have time for breakfast in Xian before catching the flight to Guilin - hence the cookies.

We did some sightseeing and had lunch at a local restaurant in Yangshuo and arranged to meet the next morning.  Again, plans were left loose in case the ban on rafting was lifted.
It was still raining the next morning so we went with Plan B - a visit to Fuli town which was holding a market day.  Lilly talked about local customs and their way of life, offering up her own witty and personal observations.  Lilly is also very observant and quickly noticed from the day before that I was very careful about steps (stairs) and my balance while walking, and soon she was offering me her arm and pointing out curbs to me as we walked.  We visited a family run painting shop where we bought several scrolls.  Lilly explained that since she was local, it would be unconscionable for her to help us bargain against the local shopkeepers, but she could interpret if we had questions.  Bargaining was as simple as a piece of paper and pen and jotting down numbers back and forth a couple of times!

The driver arrived early the next morning and waited patiently for us to finish breakfast.
As soon as we got into the car, he handed me a gift from Lilly, and his cell phone.  It was Lilly calling to check on us - making sure we hadn't forgotten our all-important passports in the hotel safe, that we were all set for the ride to the Guilin airport, and to wish us a safe trip onwards to Hong Kong.  She also reminded me that if we ran into any problems at the airport, to have them call her cell phone and she would try and help us resolve the issue.  She didn't have to do any of these things - we'd already paid for her guide services the day before - just more examples of her caring nature.

We have used private guides &/or drivers many times in the past; all but 1 have been very good, but none has ever motivated me to write a review on Trip Advisor before - until now.
Lilly Lu is not just good, she is extraordinary!

During our many trips to Africa and Asia my wife and I always hired local tour guides and we have never been disappointed. For our stay in the Guilin/Yangshuo area we did the same and hired Lilly Lu as our private guide, together with a car with driver (who by the way was excellent) whom she arranged. To make a long story short: Our experience with Lilly Lu was in on word - UNBEATABLE!
For everybody who wants to explore this fantastic area, is interested to learn about Chinese habits and culture and wants somebody on his side who is not only very friendly but also helpful and flexible - Lilly Lu is the perfect guide.
She knows the area by heart, is absolutely trustworthy and reliable, has a great sense of humour and assists you with anything you might need. She also speaks English absolutely fluently which allows great discussions.
In case you plan a tip to Guilin/Yangshuo there is only one private tour guide to hire: Lilly Lu! If you don't do it, you miss a unique opportunity.
More than highly recommended!!!
