Thsi was absolutely a highlight of our visit. We did this with scooters and it was amazing. The views are spectacular and you can take awesome photos at so many places as you can stop anywhere you want to. This is defnitely a must do when visiting Yangshou!

We came here by scooters. The views are mesmerizingly beautiful. Most amazing to me are the mountains and their shapes. Much like independent mountains close to each other, rather than looking like a mountain range.

We started our Yulong River bicycle tour a few minutes outside of Jiuxian Village and just where the bamboo boat cruise ends. We were allowed to choose our bikes - I choose a regular one, my husband a mountain bike. Apparently the government had this park and bike path built for tourists within the past two years and it is very pleasant. However in China motorbikes also classify as bikes so watch out for those on this path as well as for golf carts, baby buggies and walkers. It's a pleasant undulating but not hilly path mostly paved with a view scenic spots in farmers fields and along the river to stop and photograph.

Allow an hour - very pleasant to do in combination with the Yulong River Bamboo Cruise. Also, we noticed lots of people cycling around the Yulong River near Yangshuo but the road is very busy and all cars use the bike pat

I'll start out with a review of our trip to the park. I had a lot of difficulty finding information on how to get to Yangshuo via Yangti to Xinping raft, so I figured I'd share my knowledge for anyone else that may be looking in the future.

I got into Guilin North station and immediately had people swoop in on me, trying to get me to sign up for their tour. I speak Chinese, which gives me some leverage with haggling. I may have still paid too much but I talked the guy down from 300rmb to 250rmb to take us directly from the station to the docks at Yangti.

We (3 people including myself) got to the docks and bought tickets to take the 4 seater bamboo raft. It was 216rmb/person + 53rmb to cover the cost of the empty seat. The ride was unbelievable. We bought some beers from the shop before we embarked, which was a very good call.

From Xinping to Yangshuo we took a bus which takes about 40mins and costs 10rmb/person.

Now on to the historic landscape park!

We got up before 8, had breakfast, and went straight to rent bikes. We anticipated taking roads less travelled and rented mountain bikes (30rmb +100rmb deposit/bike). We had someone offer us a tour, insisting we'd never find the back roads ourselves. We don't mind getting lost and preferred to be by ourselves, so declined.

We headed towards the bus station and took a left into jiama. From there we just worked our way along the river, alternating between tiny mud paths and paved areas. We stopped in one of the small towns and had the best 白切鸡 I've ever had. We watched as the chef went out and chose a chicken for our meal. Washed it down with their homemade rice wine 👌🏻.

I highly recommend you go to the park, take your time, take paths you don't think are paths, and enjoy the scenery!

Yangshuo township is compact and easily negotiated by foot but if you want to look farther afield, you need some kind of transport. We opted for one of the little electric buses for our family with 2 children aged 10 and 7. Many people hire a bike and it would have been a great casual ride but I didn’t think our kids would be up for it.

So off we set in our little electric bus. Our driver took us on what was probably a standard route but it was a great experience for us. We drove through little laneways and the area was quite rural; as we drove past farms and animals of all kinds we shared the “road” with all manner of transport and locals walking cattle.

The countryside was beautiful and it was a little look into local life outside of the big cities. We were able to see inside the local cafes, where either groups of men or groups of women were playing cards and gambling (mostly groups of men), see small children playing and take a peek at local houses, some large and clearly newly built others clearly very, very old. All this set against a stunning green backdrop of Karst peaks, rivers and rice fields.

Yangshuo is very obviously a major tourist destination in this area. There are lots (and lots!) of tourists – both local and foreign – but despite my personal dislike for the tourist strip (markets, cafes etc) our few hours in the Yangshuo county countryside was one of the highlights of our 2 weeks in China.

It would be great to cycle along this very long path starting from near Giggling Tree. On our morning walk, we saw farmers tending to their farms, some harvested padi field, ladies washing clothes along the river and even a motorcyclist pushing her bike along a breakwater to cross the Yulong River. The air was very fresh. One could also walk in the opposite direction. Freshly planted flowering plants brighten up the surrounding beside the numerous karst hills. Highly recommended a ride or walk here.

just rent a bicycle (Y10 - Y30 for a decent bike) and buy a map (Y5 - Y8) and just ride around. you don't need a guide unless you can't read maps. two days tops is what most people spend doing this. beyond that is overkill. thankfully, unlike many sites in china, this one is not walled off or ticketed. you're free to roam mostly... just be polite and respectful whem moving through villages.

i spent two days here, and that was more than enough. granted, i have already seen lots of rocks in china: huangshan mountain, zhangjiajie, stone forest in kunming, etc., but still enjoyed yangshou.

We rented 3 bike and 1 motorbike from our hostel owner to explore the landscape park. The journey took 20-25 km and will pass by a few attraction which we were able to visit.
Visited on June 2018.

We rented a driver that took us around in a sidecar motorbike and showed us all the hotspots and also tracks off the beaten path. We spent around Two hours driving around and taking photo brakes here and there. We booked the driver at the reception of our hotel. We saw lots of people biking around and driving electric scooters.
