Blast from the Past
Dec 2019
The Xingping Fishing Village is the place that feels like a blast from the past. The buildings are ancient well preserved building that looks like pre-war building with national flags hanging. The shops are commercialised selling poor imitations of beer fish or local Guangxi dishes. There are also local souvenir shops selling most cheap looking over priced items. Nevertheless the area has a unique charm as it is surrounded by beautiful karst mountains and barren grasslands. When you blend the two together, there is a unique tranquil peaceful feeling you don't usually experience.

My advice is to have a heavy late breakfast before you go there. The food and shops are forgettable. But the ambiance is worth the visit. To enjoy the calm and peace, you can also order coffee at cafes there, and just sip slowly to appreciate the joy of being in a blast from the past.

Good half-day trip
Jun 2019 • Friends
It’s a cute area, the Main Street can easily be walked in an hour and isn’t that different from the block of “older” buildings in downtown Guilin. The 20 yuan viewing point is a must-see, and it’s nice to explore the surrounding countryside, although the route we took went through several “garbage mountains”. We stayed overnight, but I think it would be a good afternoon excursion from Yangshuo. There is also a very tiny museum that ends up being more like a store in the middle of the city.

River cruise on "bamboo rafts", fan-making in village & a cormorant fisherman
May 2019 • Friends
6 people per "bamboo raft" was a lovely way to go along the Li River and appreciate the stunning "karsts" rising vertically all around you. Water buffalo & birds not affected so good views of nature along riverbank. Village had a fan making business - there used to be 6 families in the village making fans the traditional way but now just the one family business. Traditional cormorant fisherman greeted us as we landed. (NOTE: we were part of a package tour so not 100% sure if it was this village but no other options on Trip Advisor for a review of a Li River Cruise)

Another place from yesterworld that's going to be wrecked by rampant tourism.
Apr 2019 • Family
A small town which can be covered in it's entirety in 1 hour's leisurely walk.

Across the river, settlements of enthusiastic AirBnB and motel developers are cropping up at a rampant pace.

The key things are the spectacular views along the Li River (including the 20 yuan note view), Bamboo boat rides to Nine Horse Hill and possibly the cormorant fishermen.

Walking is enjoyable. Electric ferry cars are a plenty and they don't cost much (you can bargain as they always start with an inflated prices for tourists).

Touristy
Jan 2019 • Friends
This has lost its authentic charm. It's now become a tourist place selling bits and pieces.

Can get food here and souvenirs.

The street sellers have delicious fruits.

Can also start the hike from here.

It's nice enough here.

Hideous toilets

Busy, crowded tourist place
Nov 2018
Nice OK place at end of boat trips on Youlong river (very crowded). Interesting scenery on non-rainy day. Village itself crowded, full with Chinese tourists and people trying to sell stuff.

The cormorant fishing experience on Xing Ping Island, Guangxi
Apr 2018 • Couples
Once you arrive on Xing Ping Island and get settled, the staff of the hotel invite you to see a traditional way of fishing with cormorants.

Walking on a nice path and then going through a grove of tangerine trees you finish the walk right on the Li River.

The fisherman will throw the fishing net several times so that one gets a nice shot and then will proceed to show how his cormorants get the fish. The birds will go into the water and catch fish, then go back to the fisherman who will press their neck and get the fish out of the bird.

It is an amazing experience to watch, even if slightly contrived! Please do not feel bad about the birds: They are the livelihood of the fisherman so he is not going to mistreat them.

Rather think about the beautiful interaction of humans and animals for their survival!

Bring a good camera, as the setting is spectacular with the river, the boat, the birds and the mountains in the back.

Nice stroll
Oct 2017 • Couples
XingPing is a place for many attractions about 40-60 min from Yanshuo town. You can take motor boat to take you up and down Li River, which is not at all as good as Bamboo boats you can take in Yulong River. It's a bit too noisy for my taste. However the village it self is nice with small cafes, restaurants to spend an hour or two. The original Cormorant fishing is from XingPing which you can enjoy around sunset. Cormorant fishing is a traditional fishing method in which fishermen use trained cormorants to fish in rivers. You can also take LaoZhai hill hike that starts from XingPing river side, to explore the beautiful sunset by Li River.

Currently no atm working for international cards
Jul 2017 • Couples
We arrived today (2017/07/24) and found out there is no atm working for us. Because of the floods (few week ago) there is only one atm working according to our hostel. The one working is the Bank of China atm. This one doesn't work for us with Dutch meastro and visa cards. Probably the problem will be solved soon, but if your planning to stay here in the next few weeks you might like to come prepared and take enough cash. Otherwise you need to go back to Yangshou (by bus 50 min one way).

With just a few trips you can run out of cash soon as they are not cheap. For example fishing with the commorant fisherman is 270RMB for a boat (4 person) and a bamboo raft to Yengdi costs 210RMB per person (minimal 4 persons or pay 55 per empty seat).

But! Xingping is a nice little town. Only a few moments during the day it can get a little crowded because of a tourist bus or the cruises that come in at the same time, but it turns back to normal again soon. Lots of things to do like hikes around town or further, rent bikes to see the countryside (25RMB/day) and the scenery is the best!
