Great experience. Costs 100 rmb. Only 3-5 minutes on air but it is exiting. Caution- the address is different from here- turn left in the big cross of Yanshou and go straight until you will see it in your right, about 3 km

China Hot Air Ballooning is run by an Australian company, Outback Ballooning. They are about 3 times the price of the Chinese companies in Yangshuo. The main reason is that they are fully insured to Lloyds of London standards (about $20M) which makes them acceptable to large tour companies - the Chinese companies are apparently either uninsured or minimally insured. Obviously the insurance on a Hot Air Balloon company must be really expensive - 3 times the price still seems excessive however. The tour itself was nice, seeing Yangshuo from a hot air balloon is an amazing experience. Felt safe and well taken care of. The baskets on the balloons are really really small - holding only 3 people plus the pilot (comfortably only holding the pilot) and really squeezed. It was not really possible to crouch down to land like we were instructed because we were so tightly squeezed in there. Couldn't move in the basket, so only got to see one side of the view as we sailed. The tour guide spoke good English , not sure the pilot did. Would have liked it if they had given some sort of briefing before hand explaining about how they flew the balloons, inflated them, or something about balloons in general, or about Yangshuo, or pointed out anything we were seeing as we flew, but as it was (how to land then up and away), it is still a great experience. I can't say it's worth the $290.00 per person price tag without something else in the package (nothing else included except a bottle of water, a flight certificate, and a hat), but if you have never been in a balloon before, it is an exciting experience. Other balloon trips we've been on served a champagne breakfast after the flight, or at least a champagne toast, and cost less money in more expensive countries. For example, in Stockholm, one of the most expensive cities in the world, a hot air balloon trip including a picnic and champagne is about the same price as this trip without those things, plus you help set up the balloon and learn about the trip and ballooning. There, you get a 20% discount for more than 1 ticket too. Seems like China, which is infinitely cheaper than Sweden, would have a more reasonable price for this trip - should be about half the current asking price. The ballooning provides magnificent views of the Karst Mountains of Yangshuo, really truly beautiful.
