Zhaoqing has many scenic areas, Xinghu is one of the most attractive ones. The tranquility, the greenery are a pleasant escape from the City. Certainly an enjoyable walk to get there, you won't regret it.

We walked to the lake from our hotel which was nearby. We came in the east gate and didn't see anyone collecting gate fees. The area is huge and the hills have that rock structure that one sees in Chinese paintings. Unfortunately someone persuaded us to ride on their motorbike "bus" which then instead of taking us around the lake as they said, took to the streets and wanted to drive outside the lake! For that we could have taken a bus. And then he insisted on his 40 RMB payment which we refused when we got off once we realised what was happening. I think there are bikes for hire but they must be from another entrance.

First it’s open until 7pm.
However, if you want to skip the entrance fee I suggest the following:

Enter from the direction of the west gate. Before you arrive there, go right hand and climb the first small rock for just 5RMB. The view is very nice and less people there.

Then before you arrive at the west gate, turn again right hand and go to the long bridge, it is free of charge. You will have the best view on the scenery of the park and almost no people there.

The down side: you can not climb the rocks inside of the park (but you already did the first for 5RMB)

Other things: the park entrance fee is 70RMB for 1 spot, for 2 spots it’s 120RMB per person.
If you also want to see the wetlands, it’s again 80RMB per person.

I recommend my alternative :)

Zhaoqing Xinghu Scenic Area is located in Zhaoqing City, Guangdong Province. It is the first batch of key scenic spots, the first batch of national AAAA scenic spots, the national top ten civilized scenic tourism demonstration sites and the ISO14000 national demonstration area.
Zhaoqing Xinghu Scenic Area is composed of Qixingyan and Dinghushan, with a total area of 20.61 square kilometers. The main attractions are Tianxi Ten Scenes, Yunxi Ten Scenes, and Baoding Park.
Main Attractions:
Qixingyan is named after seven rock peaks such as the Big Dipper. Qixingyan Scenic Area has a total area of 8.23 square kilometers. There are five lakes, six posts, seven rocks and eight holes. The lake is about 6.49 square kilometers, accounting for nearly 80% of the entire scenic spot, even larger than Hangzhou West Lake. The entire lake is divided into five lakes by a lake bank that is staggered: East Lake, Qinglian Lake, Central Lake, Bohai Lake, and Li Lake. The total length of the lake embankment is more than 20 kilometers. The Willow and Phoenix trees will be on the embankment. It will be like a few green belts falling on Bicheng's surface. The lake area is strewn with seven steep limestone peaks that resemble the Seven Stars in the sky.
Dinghu Scenic Area
Dinghu Mountain covers an area of 11.3 square kilometers and shares the four famous mountains of Lingnan with Danxia Mountain, Luofu Mountain and Xiqiao Mountain. Dinghu Mountain has two names: First, there are lakes on the top of the mountain, the lake is clear, and the lake is called Dinghu Mountain in the near future. Second, the peaks of the mountains are round and round, and the two peaks are separated, and the peaks and peaks are divided. There is a lake, like the ancient tripod that is put upside down. Legend has it that the Yellow Emperor once cast the Ding and took advantage of the dragon, so it is also called Dinghu Mountain.

We cycled around the lake in a few hours on bikes we rented close to the lake. We could have spent a lot longer but we were in a hurry to catch a bus. There are good bike paths all around the lake and the path takes you past a few old village areas and an area of restaurants/cafes that you'd otherwise know nothing about if your visit was limited to the city centre. You get good views of the peaks in the middle of the lake. I wouldn't walk around the lake but cycling was fun.

We got a boat to take us around the Seven Star Crags or Star Lake with a tour guide who gave us a good run-down of the scenic spots and the history of the lake. The stone structures of the crags were amazing to look at and the water in the lake is very clean. After disembarking the boat we took a walk on the shores and it was most delightful to have a closer look of the lake with different vegetation and animals.
