Great wall Museum is best place to understand the history and architect of the time.
Its display of the models of the wall is great.
Beside that one can use very clean toilets and use some air condition as in the day time it can get hot.

A double-storey museum where you can learn more about the Great Wall of China and the architect.

But if you’re not a history junkie like me, you can just go for the clean toilet and the air-condition.
Bought a nice magnet in the souvenir shop on the way out too.

Worth a visit given the location

This is on the way out from the Jiayuguan fortress so worth the small detour. No extra fees applied.

Significant quantity, but nearly all the details are in Mandarin; would probably enjoy a lot less without some knowledge.
Also (again this is only explicit in Mandarin), many of the displays are replicas. I didn't count but I estimate less than half were originals which is always disappointing in a museum.

An OK museum

As most of the information is not in English, it doesn't take long to walk through the museum. Since it's on the way out of the fortress area, it's easy to stop there for a bit. It has a few nice displays.

The Great Wall of China (GWC) was remarkable in seeing the wall trail through the mountains. I was so amazed in seeing how man could accomplish this feat.

I hired a guide and I believe I paid about $50 for the entire day. Please note that the guide will take you anywhere and everywhere. I asked to take me to a restaurant and the guide took me in and helped me order my lunch and then went outside to wait on me. I offered to pay for the guides lunch but that is not part of the culture.

Please note that the GWC is an engineering feat but that does not mean that it is easy to walk. When walking you may have to uses steps that are uneven steps. These steps can be 2", then 8", and the next step 24". So your brain will get a workout on just the steps. Additionally, the steps can almost go to "rock climbing". I actually saw where the Chinese used old car tires at the bottom for those who fell backwards from climbing the steps.

Be ready to expend a lot of energy if you are planning to trek the GWC. Very worth while but eat your Wheaties!

Interesting and well done

This is now a part of the Jiayuguan pass area (not in the town where the map suggests.) When you buy a ticket for the fortress it gives you entry to the museum (as well as the West and East Great Wall areas.)

The museum is a good introduction to the history of the wall from the construction to the military use. There is plenty of English to guide you through, although not for every single item displayed.

This was a great museum with lots in English. There were great pictures and models of the great wall as well as the usual Chinese make believe. The museum was very well done.

A small but excellent museum...

Not full of propaganda...just facts...a great way to spend an hour or two...a little more English would be nice but still a great spot

It is a place to learn all the things about the Great Wall, not just the section of Jiayuguan but all sections in China.
