Simon was a wonderful guide. He was well prepared, thoughtful, and insightful. It was a great pleasure traveling with him. My wife and I spent a week visiting some of the more well-known parks and religious sites in Gansu. Because these are located some distance from each other, our trip included a driver in addition to one long-distance train ride. The cars were comfortable, in good condition, and the drivers operated their vehicles responsibly. Simon was exceedingly patient in custom-planning our itinerary, from recommending places and activities, choosing hotels, and meeting our dietary requirements. Our last night in Dunhuang we camped in the desert, a great throwback to our days living in the UAE. This was no campsite filled with tourists. Simon took us in his SUV to an isolated spot and brought along all the gear and fixings for a beautiful full-moon night in the desert. Truly a holiday to remember. Thank you so much for making it happen, Simon!

We went with another family together, altogether 8 people (4 adults and 4 little children). Everything was nicely organized to our special needs with the children. The trip was great, we enjoyed each moment. Beautiful sightseeings and I just wish we could go back to do it again - but of course China has many other things to discover... 😜. Simon, our guide was great, helped in every manner he could, was very patient with children, considered everything how to make the whole trip also more convenient for all of us. And also a great company to our team of 8. Thank you for everything here once more, and hope to come back to Gansu/Silk road once more!

Our group of 3 went with Simon’s team for a private tour from Lanzhou to Xiahe to Zhangye. Echoing what other reviewers have said, Simon was always super responsive and proactive during our few months of emailing planning our trip. As an aside, prior to travel, highly suggest uploading weChat, the main text platform in China, so that you can load up Simon and his guides/drivers contact #'s in advance. During our tour, we were guided by Arthur, who speaks good English, providing us insight into all the scenic spots we visited like Binglingsi, Labrang Monastery, and Matisi Grottoes. In particular, we really enjoyed the lunches he arranged, making sure we got a taste of delicious local cuisine. We also appreciated that, although dinner was not included in our tour package, he would still accompany us to make sure we got to a good restaurant. We had two drivers for our comfortable vans and they were both equally very safe and friendly. Lastly, Simon met us on our last day at our hotel and graciously surprised us with a lot of fresh local fruit which we thoroughly enjoyed. We would not hesitate to work with Simon again for a well organized stress-free tour.

I wanted to see places off the beaten path -- temples, markets, archaeological sites [old Tang fortresses and Han-dynasty watchtowers]. Simon put together a thoughtful itinerary that included fantastic restaurants; temples not listed in guide-books; and markets with fresh local specialties. We saw spectacular geological landscapes & the Dunhuang caves. Every day was better than the last. Simon has a genius for logistics -- very important when travelling such distances -- Gansu is a huge province. Simon is also well connected to other tour guides throughout China -- he was able to set up great mini-tours in Xi'an and Chengdu, too. The trip of a lifetime. I will always be grateful.
