If you're not Chinese, don't bother, they are not foreign-friendly.

The lady at the ticket booth asked for passport, visa, date of entry into the country, business licence of the company I work for, etc... Never asked me for vaccination record (which I have) or health QR CODE (which I have too) so it's not pandemic-related.

The lunch at her desk was getting cold so scanned copies of the documents she was asking for were not enough, she wanted originals.

I've been living in China for 10 years and this is the first thave such a bad experience.

The place might be nice but not worth a 20 minute discussion with a hostile woman.

Chengkan village has well preserved residential architecture from Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 A.D.). Chengkan village is also widely known as Bagua Village (八卦) relating to Taiji philosophy that focuses on two aspects – Yin and Yang. This can be seen in a lot of the old residential houses. It is highly recommended that you hire a guide. If you can understand Chinese, then local guides can be hired at village entrance for a small fee of rmb50 (the guide will take you through the village and explain a lot of Fengshui design of the buildings to you. The tour would take around 1 hour and if you want to spend longer than it is another rmb50). The local village has very limited English speaking guide. While you can tour the village yourself, a lot of cultural knowledge is lost without someone explaining. While this is not as tourist or famous as Hongcun and Xidi, it is definitely worth a visit.

We were taken to Chengkan Village by our guide. It was a sunny day and the lake looked beautiful. We wandered around for a couple of hours, trying different dumplings, pancakes and other nibbles. We saw wood carvers and traditional ways of cooking. The buildings were most interesting and we went to visit what was a wealthy family’s old house with some huge wooden pillars which had a fascinating history.

Very serene location in the ancient village with the lake views and lotus plants in the water. Narrow alleys past many artisan shops with beautiful carvings and well worth a short visit.

It's nice , but it's still on work. The chinese did a lot of work conserving some old buildings from the interior, wooden work, etc. Thd entrance fee is 110 yuan. And you will need to get there...
I recommend to go there only if you have spare time to kill on your way back from or to Huangshan town, to Huangshan mountain reserve

安徽 architecture has been unique in tradition & one will perhaps draw reference to the blockbuster, 臥虎藏龍. More importantly, Chengkan is the last remaining township in today's China that was built according to the Bagua (eight trigrams) some 300 years ago. Since the village itself was built accordingly to Bagua, best to get a local guide if u intend to venture inside.

We had a guide called Tony from Top China Tours who had an excellent knowledge of the place and good English. You need to know what you are looking at and the history is important to understand. The main building is like a maze. It is absolutely fascinating but easy to miss things if you don't know where to go down small alleys inside the complex. Allow enough time and take water.

Beautiful farming village. If you have a choice between visiting here or Hongcun, then definitely choose here. It is both more attractive and yet, because it is more isolated, has far fewer tourists. Some old houses are open to the public and of course there are shops and street food stalls. But at the same time far less 'touristy'. Useful to have a guided tour.

Found the ancient buildings to be well worth the effort of visiting. Lots to see especially if you are interested in history. Easy walking but comfortable shoes recommended.
