we did a 2 days private tour which includes a 7-seated private car that drove us everywhere we want to go! we visited both unesco villages, but only hiked for the sunset and sunrise because unfortunately we were not fit enough to hike to the other peaks. we end up not seeing any sunset or sunrise though because it was very foggy :( BUT the peaks itself were actually magnificent to look at (check my pictures).
the tour guide spoke english perfectly and he was actually super understanding, flexible and friendly. he let us sleep in when we were really tired and let us change the schedule however we want during the tour. also, if you guys have no idea what to do or where to eat, just ask him everything. he helped our itinerary a lot.
overall, it was a really enjoyable yet tiring trip. i would definitely recommend this to everyone that have not hiked mount huangshan but are interested to. so so thankful to the tour guide and also the driver!!!

Yellow Mountain Excursion

Today, November 8th, 2017. We had booked an organized tour of The Yellow Mountain with Thomas that had a total of 11 persons in the group. First, you must know we all were already on a organized tour of 5 cities in China. Our group was dissatisfied with assigned guide by the AMERICAN name of Henry. We were traveling with an international company by the name of InterTrips. The company is based in Diamond Bar, California and they deliver usually a very good value based travel product. Our problem was that we had a guide that over three day would knowingly batter the USA with comparisons to China ...to us, a group from the USA. Don’t worry, we discounted all that he had spewed. So the 11 of us elected to mutiny from the troubling guide for one day by electing not to take his most expensive excursion, of which was to Yellow Mountain. So what we did was to do some online checking for an option as we were driven into Yellow Mountain’s base city of Huangshan the evening before. Happily, Thomas and his organization popped up. After a brief discussion and texting we had determine Thomas would be our go to man. The next day, Thomas, his driver and a 12 passenger van was not just on time, but was early for the pickup time. During the tour, Thomas was entertaining, patient and generous with his knowledge of Yellow Mountain. Needless to say we scored a 100 with Thomas the whole day. We also saved a whopping $75 per person with Thomas vs the tour company’s option. The overall mountain tour was beyond our expectation!

A lot of hiking and walking, but definitely worth it

Huangshan was beautiful even though it was pouring down on the second day of our tour. The scenery when it was clear was just like a Chinese painting, possibly better.
Thomas was very helpful and gave my wife and I a lot of advice including which hotel to stay on Huangshan and how to travel back to Hangzhou after the tour so that we wouldn't miss our flight.
Unfortunately, Thomas was not available on the day of our tour. However, the tour guide, Victor was knowledgeable enough to take us to all the main attractions so that we didn't miss anything.

Best tour guide

I read source through Trip Advisor and found Thomas as our tour guide to take us through our visit in Huangshan. I booked him many months ahead and communicate with him via wechat. He was always very fast to response and that makes it easier for me to plan my trip ahead. As Thomas was busy handling another group, he recommended his partner, Victor to take us for our tour. Trust me.. Victor was terrific! He picks us up from the train station promptly. Help us to check into our hotel and the next day we were on our way to Huangshan. Well, we had a raining day weather on our first day and it was cold but we still manage to view the scenery with fog of course! It was a different experience and Victor had to go through with us through the rain. He was able to navigate well and we reached Beihai hotel for lunch . Wow! Short time but we almost finish our day itinerary. After lunch at Beihai hotel we continue to walk for another few views, took good pictures despite the weather and reached Xihai hotel where we stayed for a night. I strongly recommended this hotel , little more expensive but very comfortable . The next morning we continue with our walk. It was a sunny day. Victor plan the route and took us to the lotus peak view, Grand Canyon and many sight. Victor explained the history of Huangshan, each tablet written by famous Chinese Writers etc... very informative. He was also able to tell us which view was the best to take good pictures. He is patience and always smiling, encouraging and motivated. We had very good pictures as memory.

We went to Xidi and Hong Cun villages.. beautiful and this is a sight not to be missed. Victor is so knowledgeable and was able to explain the history of each location .

I will recommend Thomas and victor to my friends and keep up the good job guys!

We engaged Thomas for 3 days tour of Huangshan, Wuyuan,Hongchun and Xidi from 01Mar18 to 03Mar18. He picked us up at Tunxi airport on 28Feb18 and sent us to our hotel when we
arrived from Shanghai and sent us off to the main bus station at Tunxi
for our bus journey to Hangzhou on our last day in Huangshan. My wife and I were extremely satisfied with his punctuality, helpfulness and honesty throughout the time of the tour. He has great knowledge about Huangshan and the ancient towns that we visited. A visit on our own would not have achieved so much.
Huangshan is truely a not to be missed itinerary in anyone's travel plan. I would strongly recommend Thomas if you plan to use a guide for Huangshan.

We visited Huangshan for 4 days (24 June - 27 June 2017) n use Thomas as our private tour guide.
We feel satisfied for his service.
1. Always on time.
2. Professional in Huangshan mountain n another attractions surround Huangshan (Hongcun, Xidi, Yuliang, Chengkan, Tangyue etc).
3. Reasonable price tour.
4. Helpful n no cheating (honest).
5. Very diligent to accompany us every time n many detail explanation about the spot.
6. Good english.

Unforgettable trip...

Our group of 5 persons booked a private tour guide and transportation service with Thomas Gao for 5 days.

Everyone had a very memorable experience. The natural scenery of Huangshan was so breadth taking (and of course the 10 km walk would further take your breadth away). The visit to the ancient villages of Hongcun, Xidi, Chengkan, Tangmo, and Tangyue Archway offered so much history and culture... by adding so much perspective to our family roots. The local Anhui dishes were also unforgettable.

Thomas’ experience and service attitude had been a contributing factor in making all this possible. He knows the places with good view, paths that would be too physically demanding for certain older members of our group, and where to enjoy some authentic local dishes. Thomas was very punctual, and he really took good care of our group, starting from the moment of airport pick up until sending us off to the airport on the last day. The provided vehicle was new and comfortable.

Overall, we had a very enjoyable and meaningful trip. Would highly recommend Thomas’s guide services.

Amazing Huangshan

Our group of 9 friends booked a 3-day tour of Huangshan and the Unesco villages of Hongcun and Xidi and the ancient town of Tunxi with Thomas. Thomas is very helpful and prompt in answering our enquries through wechat. He recommended good hotels to stay and brought us to local restaurants that served authentic and delicious Anhui cuisine. Hongcun was a quaint and picturesque village.

Thomas is an experienced guide and he guided us to various scenic spots in Huangshan. Although physically demanding as we had to hike about 10km each day through thousands of steps, we were rewarded with breathtaking and awesome views of Huangshan, reminiscient of a chinese ink painting. Being able to see the sea of clouds at the mountain summit and experience the tranquility of sunrise over the mountains, one is blissfully reminded of the beauty of creation and nature.

Overall, a wonderful experience of Huangshan.

Three great days in Huangshan

We contacted Thomas for a three-day tour, one day devoted entirely to Xidi and Hongcun, and two days devoted to Huangshan with visit to Chengkan/Tangmo on the return to Tunxi. Thomas was busy for the first day so he hired a colleague to substitute for him. All three days were wonderful. The places were awesome, of course, but both guides were knowledgeable, flexible and a lot of fun. They did everything to ensure we did everything on our programme and no extra effort was too much for them. Great value and would recommend without hesitation.

Once is not enough

I promised Thomas that I will write but never got down to it since my trip to Huangshan in August 2018. So, here goes my review. Three weeks before my trip to Huangshan, I text Thomas through his Wechat number and fixed up the itinerary. My wife and I arrived Huangshan city on the 19th August 2108. Our guide, Thomas Gao had been a tour guide in the Huangshan area for more than 20 years. So, having him as our guide was reassuring. Our itinerary as follows. 1st day, arrived at Huangshan city airport. Meet and greed at airport and transport provided to our hotel. 2nd day, transport provided to the foothill of Huangshan mountains, ticket office, bus station, cable car, hiking, lunch, more hiking and sightseeing. It’s a good 4 hours of hiking from the hill side cable car station before we arrived at our hotel. Thomas accompanied us to see the sunset and the next morning sunrise. 3rd day, more hiking and sightseeing, lunch, cable car, foothills and back to hotel. 4th day, tour the “ crouching tiger “ old town and the Tunxi old town. Evening, transport provided to Huangshan city airport for our flight to Shanghai. Thomas was with us all the way. Thomas spoke good English, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Thank you Thomas, my wife and I had a great time at the Huangshan mountains.
