This place offers fabulous sunset viewing in the Atacama desert. This place could be visited as an extended part of the Moon Valley tour. It is in the midst of beautiful natural surroundings offering great photo opportunities. Certainly would very highly recommend visiting here prior to sunset.

This rock is forbidden for tourists to visit now, as people used to jump on it, and now it has a crack, so we were not able to see it close by, but far away instead.

There was an earthquake a few months ago. Unfortunately, it has badly cracked this rock, so at the time that we went (March 2017) it is blocked off since it is too dangerous for people to step on. There are other areas along this cliff to take pictures at though. Great spot to watch the sunset, just be prepared for a large crowd.

As others already said: there are nicer, less crowded locations (even for free) where you can watch or even time lapse a great sunset.
Don’t get this wrong, it’s a great spot up there to watch the sunset, but it’s awfully crowded and you have to leave at 8:30pm. But in summer it’s just the time after sunset when the beautiful colors are coming in the clouds and the opposite direction in the mountains where the sun shines at. So it’s a bit of a pity.
2500 peso p.p. isn‘t too much for this spot.

Overrated, we ended up not entering to see the coyote rock, since the landscape as such is breathtaking as it is, and the sunset can be viewed from a great many more solitary spots.

A spectacular view in the Ricky Valle de la Luna, with San Pedro in the distance. At sunset it gets very crowded, one has to pay to get in (to see nature: incredible!!) and the color changing at sunset is not as great as described. Quite normal I would say. Minutes after sunset it gets cold.

Stopping here was supposed to be a highlight of our tour of Valle de le Luna and Valle de la Muerte. We were told that we could see dramatic changes in colour of the rocks, as the sun set. So we gathered there with many other people and settled down at our chosen spot, to wait for the sun to set. The viewpoint is a long ridge overlooking a big drop and the distant scenery. The wait was excruciatingly long and the only thing to do was watch the antics of the people around us. The sky was very clear, so the sun did not generate any colour as it set. All we ended up doing was getting cold and bored.

Got there at the end of the Valley de la Luna for the sunset. Magical time. Red sky with an endless mirador

We did not visit this site as the site to watch the sunset from, but came earlier on the tour. Here one has a great view of the Domeyko range, a nearly completely eroded mountain/hill range with wonderful shapes.

If you do a tour of the Mars & moon valleys you will be taken here after the afternoon tour to view the sunset. The golden hue the sun casts as it sets on the mountains across and the landscapes below are a beautiful sight .
