The morning we visited the geysers were over run with tourists - so much so the amenities and staff could not cope. The geysers themselves are disappointing - so not one of our favourite trips in the Atacama.

Booked this tour with a travel agency. Paid 20,000 Chilean pesos and add to that 10,000 pesos entrance fee for non South American (don't know if the price is different). Were picked in 5:15am. We were 4 people in the same place, with 4(!) different cars! After an 1.5 hours or so we got to the place. Was very cold,... More

We took the one and a half drive from San Pedro d' Atacama early one morning in order to arrive at the geysers before it was light. We arrived and it was already getting light and in retrospect it would have been better still earlier. In very low light the geysers show up much more. There are many many geysers... More

I will mean an early start, lots of warm clothes for the first hour or two until the sun rises and possible effects of the high altitude. You may need to dig out a swimming costume if you want a dip in the hot spring, and it's quite expensive. Should you go? YES. The fun seeking youngsters that gather in... More

Its absolutely worth getting up at 04.30 am! We did the tour with Whipala Tours and were very happy with the whole experience. A MUST SEE in San Pedro.

The geyser field is about 90 minutes from San Pedro and you must see them at dawn. Worth the early rise and bumpy ride on some rutted roads. Premier attraction from San Pedro. Dress warm. Was about 30 degrees cooler than San Pedro

This stands at 4,300m high and is a stunning sight. The steam is better seen before the sun comes up so it's worth getting up extra early. And now the practicalities! (a) It was -5 when we went but no wind so didn't feel that cold. We wore thin merino thermals, a fleece, walking trousers and a thin Paclite waterproof... More

We took a car and drove there early like others. But everyone should go later. Geysers are active also, and you will be able to make a picture of yourself, not the croud.

what you have to understand is that these geysers only go off at dawn - that is their unique feature - they are not v high etc but they only happen at dawn....an hour or so after dawn and it is all gone
