Worth dropping in to see the interior and read a bit about the history of the church. You will see better but not too many made like this one. Free entry and easy access if walking around the town.

This church is located very close to the main square of San Pedro De Atacama. It is an old church with a very nice look. Certainly worth visiting for it’s antiquity.

This church is very unique in its red stone colouration and is pretty hard to miss when in San Pedro Atacama. The interior is very unique and I recommend that you see for yourself. It backs on to the main square/plaza of the town and is a moments walk away from the main restaurants, cafes etc.

Beautiful historic little church with adobe walls. Lovely to spend a little time there. Ceiling is timber and quite special.

Do NOT miss this church. It is one of the prettiest churches in my memory, due to its simplicity in design. The ceiling and gates are made of cactus wood, now protected. Walk out the side door into a very pretty square with 2-3 restaurants. Over the lunch hour my day, there was live music.

The wooden ceiling so typical of Northern Chile and Argentina is certainly worth a visit, but the real jewel is Chile's oldest Church in Chiu-Chiu (San Francisco) built in 1540.

Now the church is painted terracota, which added a lot of charm to it! The simple architecture, the gates and doors made of wood sticks are awesome. I liked everything about it.

In this area, and in bordering northern Argentina, there are numerous small churches dating back to the 1500 and 1600s. They are nearly all white, mostly have 2 towers, and most have quite similar interior icons and statues. This church is much the same except for its unique ceiling made from the "skeleton wood" of the Cardon cactus.

One of my favourite churches during my trip
of SA. The cactus wood roof was a highlight and a really useful building to orient yourself.
