Beautiful location. However not sure about the other reviews going on about the scenery? It’s just surrounded by large rocks and cliffs so other than what’s in front of you there’s no actual vista from the location. Set in the bottom of the valley.

The pampas grass everywhere makes it look all secluded and pretty. However when you get down there and find it packed out with tourists it does ruin it a little.

We arrived at Termas de Puritama mid-morning and had a great visit. It seemed like a number of people were leaving as we arrived. We ended up with a pool to ourselves and soaked for a couple of hours very relaxing. My spouse had been skeptical when I booked the visit, but later agreed that it was a highlight of our visit to the San Pedro area. The only downside is the uphill walk to the parking area after you're completely relaxed.

Puritama Hot Springs is a series of eight large pools of geothermal spring water located at the bottom of a canyon in the Atacama Desert, within a close driving distance from San Pedro De Atacama. One feels relaxed and refreshed after one takes a dip in one of the natural pools. Certainly worth visiting for those who seek some relaxation in the midst of several hectic activities revolving around San Pedro De Atacama.

These hot springs are unique! Went after a long hike and it was simply perfect to enjoy the purified waters. You will find different pools (might get crowded) but you can set yourself in a good spot and disconnect your mind from everything.

Sitting under a waterfall for 30 minutes is peaceful, no doubt about it!

A few recommendations I wish I had known before I was planning my trip though-
- go during the week if you can! Entrance was 9000CLP during weekdays and 15000CLP during the weekend when I went
- if you're going with a tour company, don't pay more than 10000CLP to go– I saw a few companies that were charging 20000CLP and they don't offer anything more than literally driving you to the termas, maybe pointing out some landmarks on the way.
- if you have a small lock, bring it with you! there's little lockers in the changing rooms, but they don't have locks on them. You can use your own if you bring it though. I left my stuff on the platforms by each pozo and had no problem.
- I went in the afternoon and it got chilly FAST after the sun passed over the quebrada. I think you may be better off going in the morning.

It wasn't very crowded when I went, although I only went into the two warmest pozos because I was too cold and too much of a chicken to try out the others in case they were cold :o)

The water is collected in several pools that are arranged in the direction of the water. You have to descend from the parking area to the pools and you are over 11,000 feet over sea level! You have to walk at ease and carry light loads if you are not in fit conditions. They have dressing rooms and the personnel is nice and cooperative. You have to bring your towels, food, water, sunblock and something to cover yourself once you get out of the water. The air temperature here was around 68 degrees F at noon! The water in the pools was warm not hot. This are not pools but a spring with plants growing in the edges but the water was so clear I could see the bottom of the area I was swimming. It was around 3 to 4 feet deep. When I was going back to my car I asked an employee if they had transportation to the parking and he told me no but gave me a ride for free in his own car. Nice.

The thermal baths at Puritama were one of the best parts about our trip to Chile. The setting is just spectacular. A deep cut gorge in the middle of the dessert mountain range, one with a river cutting through it. There is vegetation all around the river, hiding the river the pools from above. The pools are cut out of the natural stone bed of the river. There are 7 of them in all, ranging between 2 feet and 4 feet deep.

The water is crystal clear and warm (although given the landscape and temperature outside one would not guess so!). We did the pools in recommended order starting from the bottom and making our way to the top. The one in the bottom is the coolest and the one on top the warmest. I would recommend doing in this order. The temperature varies from around 28 degrees to 32 degrees as one makes their way up.

The experience of sitting in warm water in the middle of a canyon which in turn is in the middle of a dessert where the air and wind is so cold, is just very spectacular and unique.

Book ahead on the website though as they only allow 100 people at a time.

I was there during a cloudy day and the temperature was not very high, so I found water a little bit cold for me. Location is nice, there is no bar or refreshment point, probably they could think about it.
The locker rooms are twice but little. There are also wc service. Very nice location

Day trip was arranged through one of the many agencies in San Pedro de Atacama. So, as you can imagine most tours arrived and left around the same time making it a little overcrowded at times.

This was the perfect end to a few days of hectic half/day trips in the area.
The hot springs are located in beautiful surroundings, more than 3000 metres above sea level. The 8 pools ranged from cold to very warm. For me, this was perfect as it was a hot day. All pools are located close together and each has a small deck area to keep your flip-flips and belongings on. They all varied in shape and size and one had mini waterfall.

If you have never visited a hot spring before/want a relaxing experience in nature/do not mind it crowded at times/do not mind that the waters are not super hot, then you will not be disappointed.

Advice for travellers:
1. No food stalls so bring own drinks and snacks etc
2. Bring a small waterproof bag to keep phone/camera in.
3. Bring a padlock for the lockers.
4. Flip flops as floor/decking gets quite hot
5. Hat/sunglasses and sunscreen

These pools are located in a lush canyon valley about half hour from San Pedro de Atacama. The drive would seem to resoundingly confirm there's no water anywhere around as the terrain is barren (yet beautiful) but devoid of life. Then as you drive higher you start seeing a little bit of fauna and then some cactuses and then you cross an almost dry river bed with a small creek in the middle. None of that will prepare you for the massive amount of water that is pouring out some underground springs heated by some distant volcanic activity. It is truly amazing to find such an amount of water rushing through the canyon and all of the lush plant life growing everywhere.

Unlike a previous reviewer mentioned, these pools are definitely man-made or at least man-enhanced. Some of the pools didn't have much work done to them, but others had entire retaining walls and benches built into them - they used natural stone so its not too obvious. Additionally, the owners have build some cabanas for changing clothes and using the banos along with a sturdy red board walk that connects all the pools plus together.

The place is so nice that entire families will go there to spend the day. Be prepared for it to be quite crowded. Its also expensive. They charge 15000 pesos and there's no guaranty you can actually find a pool to get into. There's a tiny amount of hiking at the bottom of the value, but not much as the think growth really discourages any kind of exploration.

Its also important to note that the parking is at the top of the canyon and there's a long hike down (and back up). This is not for the weak. I did see them drive an older couple back and forth but I don't know if this is a regular service.
