I went with my girlfriend on a 3-day tour of the Calama desert, north of Chile. I can tell you about the beautiful sightseeing, and wonderful places you'll discover, but right now it's all about this tour company.

They will pick you up at your hotel, right on time, on an SUV, whose you choose to share with another couple, and that's it. And they try to set you up with someone that you speak the same language. (We are Colombians, with a couple from Venezuela, so spanish was the language).

They will explain everything you ask, in a fun and relaxed way. Also, being protective about your wellbeing (so you don't get altitude sickness, or dehydrated on tour) and informing you about what you should wear for the climate.

And at the end of every tour, they make you a little picnic (which they call "cocktail") with beer, and in the plac⁸e cooked salmon, some snacks, and some wine, so you and your significant other can have a romantic toast at the beautiful Chilean sunset. (they will also take you all the pictures you want; just don't be overwhelming)

By the way, try to get as your tour guides, Ruben, Eduardo or Carlos, for the most fun, chilled and enjoyable trip. (Also, they have some cool playlist for the trip)

It's a little on the expensive side, but it's worth it!

If you have a question, just write me so I can help!

I stayed at Casa Sorbac when I went to Atacama with the @patchinpixels expedition. The location is excellent, far from the center and close to the mountains and volcanoes. A peaceful place with plenty of green and super clean area, there is no way not to feel at home as everyone's welcome. The rooms are comfortable, the bed is super comfortable and there is always hot water. The tours were also operated by Sorbac. After returning to Atacama the second time and having tried some agencies, SOBARC undoubtedly offers the best experience !!!!! They are responsible for the environment and value sustainable tourism. The guides are wonderful, while offering us an above average service level, they are our travel partners, they are careful, they know a lot about the region and they always help with the pictures. Chef Jana is wonderful, all meals are prepared by her (believe me it makes a lot of difference during the tours). The whole team is to be congratulated! Thank you all for making my second experience at Atacama just fantastic!

Our trip to San Pedro de Atacama, with wife and two friends, was one of our best ever. Much of this great success was thanks to the wonderful day tours (we did 6 of them) and experience provided by SORBAC.

We had time to enjoy each of the attractions, very good information (from Culture to Nature) to learn a lot. Food was great as well, and the staff was super friendly!!

Thanks a lot!

I did 9 days of tour with Sorbac including Atacama desert and Salar de Uyuni (plus some sightseeing in Bolivia) and it was amazing! Everything is very organized, the cars are comfortable and clean and food is awesome (you're never hungry as they spoil you with so much food!). Casa sorbac is a beautiful place to stay in San Pedro, very clean, super nice breakfast and such a chill out vibe that makes you feel at home. And don't let me forget about the guides that are such beautiful souls. I couldn't have chosen a better company for my trip!!!!

I found SORBAC’s site via reviews on trip advisor. After looking at their site’s potential tours to book and reading that they were all about the adventure, we decided to book 2.5 days worth of activities during our stay in the Atacama desert with them. If I had to sum up those days, it would have to be spectacular!

Pablo responded promptly to my emails discussing potential itineraries, pricing etc. and was available every step of the way. Pedro and Fabian (both the managers there in San Pedro de Atacama were very responsive, easy going and accommodating. One tip, the best way to reach them is through WhatsApp or Facebook messenger, or call directly.

Day one consisted of viewing a spectacular ‘moon-scape’ with sand dunes, a salt cave, and incredible vistas, a very nice and tasty lunch and sampling local fruit at Casa SORBAC, floating (with no effort) in a salt lagoon (bring your bathing suit and towel), jumping into a salt water hole in the desert and finishing the day with a sunset and snacks at a beautiful salt flat.

Day two was spending a couple of hours sandboarding (think snowboarding but slower and your feet are your ski lift)...it was tiring but very fun...finished it off with another snack / sunset from a beautiful vista.

Day three was visiting multiple places at a higher altitude including multiple lagoons at Tuyacto and Piedras Rojas (one note, due to other inconsiderate tourists the locals are not letting tourists go to the rocks themselves but the area and scenery are still magnificent). Then enjoying a delicious meal served by SORBAC on the side of a hill with an amazing vista. Then the back half of the day finishing with a couple of other spectacular lagoons and ending with flamingo viewing and a snack at Salar de Atacama.

Some tips from our family: Try to be in at least ‘good’ physical fitness...SPA is already at 2500 meters and some of the tours are 4000+ meters. Dress in layers with the desert temps at different altitudes ranging from 75+ and sunny to ~50 and windy at altitude (Fahrenheit temps). Make sure to keep drinking water / fluids...this is the dryest non-polar area on earth.

Last, a special shout out to the guides. Javie on the first day was very knowledgeable on the ecology, geography and geology of the area. On day 2 and 3, Rafael was simply outstanding. From giving information on the history, wildlife, vegetation, geology, to sharing his view on the culture, foods, and people in Chile, he was an amazing, easy going guide.

¡Muchas Gracias! for an awesome 3 days of experiences.

Staying at casa sorbac for 4 nights and doing 2 tours with them I thought I’d review my experience. In regards to both tours and accommodation prior to arriving communication was virtually none existent despite my constant emails and I was very nearly going to cancel however I thought due to the good reviews I’d persist.

Firstly the accommodation at Casa Sorbac. There are no lockers or anywhere to store your valuables and the main door to the room is also kept open meaning people can go freely into the dorms, even at night these doors are not locked. Another issue was storage with only 3 small shelves and 1 plug socket, which was hanging off the wall, to share between 3 people. The bathroom was not clean and for the majority of the day due to building works at the hostel there was no water. Even when there was water in the evening it was cold, not exactly what you want after a long, hot day in the desert. The great thing about the hostel was the food and the chef really was a very good cook. It’s very far (a 30 min walk down hilly dirt tracks) from the centre and not always easy to get taxi’s.

I did 2 tours with sorbac. The first being with Pedro which was great! Fantastic food and everything explained in English. Unfortunately the second day our guide did not speak English. This was only a problem for myself as everyone else on the tour spoke Spanish. Pedro did acknowledge this and gave me a discount as it wasn’t the best experience.

Overall I think the tours are good (providing they are in the language you want), the food is excellent. The hostel isn’t up to scratch in my opinion.

I really insisted on going with Sorbac to do the trekking because of all good reviews concerning staff and equipment. I knew about the risks of climbing above 2.500 m (25% of people could get sick). I was aware I had a chance of developing acute mountain sickness, and that's why I had looked for a company with solid experience in adventure.

Before I book my excursion, I had confirmed twice the availability of rescue oxygen with the contact team.

Because Volcano Láscar was closed, we did the trekking on Cerro Toco (which is not so high), three tourists (me and a young couple) and Mario, the guide.

Everything was bearable at first. But then, the girl almost faint in the ascending. At this moment, I was worried because no intervention was done with her, aside from giving her water and letting her rest while standing.

Problem solved, we continued to climb. Meanwhile, I asked about the oxygen (just for checking) and I discovered it was not available! Mario said that it is not needed at that height. He said that everything is solved by breathing and positive mind. I was shocked because I know this is not true and because I found myself unprotected.

At the end of the climbing, I was affected by a sudden headache. I asked for help to take the medication I had brought. Mario helped me and we continued to climb.

After all struggles, to my great disappointment, as soon as I reached the top of the mountain, I started to have clear signs of acute mountain sickness: huge headache, strong nausea, and generalized weakness. Mario had had to support me, so I could seat. At that moment, I couldn't help myself. Thanks to God, I was able to stand again and to start the descending. But I was weak and, of course, with altered balance. Mario was close to me in the descent, but as soon as I was more confident, he took a distance of few meters, letting me behind.

Finally, we got to the car. I could not talk anymore because of the headache and nausea. Back to the hotel, I laid on my bed for 5-h before I could get the strength to take a shower or even eat. The headache was awful (I know what I mean because I have migraine; I had missed migraine that day...) and accompanied by strong tinnitus.

The trekking of Cerro Toco was supposed to be a celebration, but I only could enjoy it enough through my pictures. I knew I could have had problems. And I know oxygen could have restored me in minutes. I was not supposed to have suffered so long! And, although acute mountain sickness is not fatal, to let a sick person walk behind of you in a mountain trail could be. It's just a matter of slipping in the ice or the rocks.

Everything I am telling here I have already told to Thaise from Sorbac. She had taken my report into account carefully. Nevertheless, I wanted to write this review for warning the tourists, so they won't pass through the same difficulties as I did.

First of all: this kind of excursion requires more than one guide. Only one instructor won't be able to carry anyone who cannot walk.
Second: before departing, check if there is an oxygen cylinder in the car. And if the cylinder is full.

Finally, the guide of Sorbac was nice and kind, but in an urgency being gentle is not sufficient; you have to be prepared and to provide safety.

Dear Melina, We are deeply sorry to learn that your experience did not meet your expectations. Indeed, we had an error with the logistic equipment that produced the lack of it that day. We are not justifying ourselves in any way and fully assume the responsability. Please accept our sincere apologies. We appreciate your words and we want you to know that we are working hard in our logistic system to prevent this situation from happening again. For us the customer experience is the most important, and we want our passengers see the wonders that the Atacama Desert has to offer in a safe, unique way and with lots of love. I would like to thank you for bringing this to our attention. It will help us improve our operations and services. If there are any other issues that need to be addressed, please don't hesitate to contact us by phone, email, or in person. Sincerely, SORBAC team.

We did three, full day private tours. Each tour was excellent, from hiking Lascar volcano to the moon valley, Baltinoche lagoons, Guayatin trekking, Puritama hot springs. The sunset tour was less great but that is just the sunset, not judging the tour. The Tatio geysers are rather disappointing to anyone who has seen Yellowstone.

The food was outstanding and we were very well cared for by guides who spoke good or excellent English.

The only issue was the start of tours. We were contacted by Whatsapp messenger the day before to confirm, despite this for the first two days the guide did not arrive on time.
Both days a replacement guide was found on short notice but we didn't like waking up early then waiting an hour after we were supposed to start. We did receive a discount for the inconvenience. The first day the guide had the wrong tour listed. Part of this is the main owner, Pablo, was away for two days and it seems no one else can organize things well.

Overall I would recommend the group highly. I would confirm with Pablo the week before arrival that he will be there or things will be all set. He is good at responding to email.

Sorbac it's about riding a bike, climbing volcanos and discovering new things. It's about knowing the most incredible and exclusive places of the Atacama. It's about such a delicious food that awake feelings and memories. It's about being treated whit love, feelling safe, and willing to overcome yourself in the adventures that they offer, because you know that someone will hold your hands and encourage you.
It's the courage to challenge yourself because someone (that until then didn't know you) genuinely believe in you.
Sorbac it's a home with wonderful people who look after you as good and old friends do. People with a wide smile, warm hugs, that willing to do everything to ensure that your trip will be the best as possible. It's about feeling the magic of the place and nature and understand that more than awesome rides, comfortable beds, warm blankets, clean and spacious bathrooms and delicious food, a trip can be more fantastic when we meet people like them. Love, truth, sympathy, comedy, support, commitment, integrity, friendship and so many things that we experience there. Sorbac is an experience. Is that kind of experience that everyone needs to have at least once in life (the kind that changes everything). It's not just a company that provides the best service (yes, they are the best), it's special human beings who give the best of themselves and awake the best of us. Go with your eyes closed, an open heart and truly be surprised.

Sorbac definitely contributed to making the trip to Atacama one of the best experiences I’ve ever had with guided tours. I’ve always liked to go solo on discovering new places but for a place like Atacama you definitely want someone experienced that will guarantee you make the most of it. The guiding team has a very positive vibe and are always trying to connect with the tourists, so it almost feel like they are one of us. Special shout out to Papa Fries, one of the most experienced, charismatic and helpful guy we’ve met. He is such a figure and unique person. If you book a tour with Sorbac, ask for him. Cláudio is also very nice and very flexible! The food and infrastructure that Sorbac provides is also very good. Just be mindful to confirm the tour schedule one day before with them, since this is the only hiccup we’ve had during our time with Sorbac.
