Laguna Tuyajto was a pleasant surprise after having visited Laguna Miscanti and Laguna Miniques. It is located close to Piedras Rojas. This lagoon has it’s own unique beauty in the midst of picturesque surroundings. One will be able to spot some interesting birds as well. Certainly worth a photo stop when visiting the other 2 lagoons mentioned.

A great lagoon, away from the hustle and bustle of the many groups. You are not allowed to go down to the shore, but there is a viewing point and for those with a bit of off-road experience, there is a hill (140m up) opposite from where you have a fantastic view down! The climb takes about 30 minutes with good shoes (thorns/sandy). Take a jacket with you - it can get quite windy at the top!

We recently spent two days self driving to the lagoons south of San Pedro in our two-wheel drive car. This is really pretty one with gorgeous white salt. It is quite a drive from San Pedro but for us we really enjoyed visiting this place. It’s right next to the road, so that makes it easy to visit. There are a few flamingoes but better to see them at Laguna Chaxa.

Not so beautiful as the Misacanti and Miniques lakes, but also worth the visit. It's located after Piedras Rojas. I made a small stop for photos.

An incredible salt lake at high altitude. It is a piercing sapphire blue. The view over the Andes in the distance is breathtaking

From the Piedras Rochas you drive a little further to the border with Argentina. The road is in a bad shape, although. So I would recommend a 4x4. We were there on Nov, 5 and we were alone ! So beautiful and quiet. Without tourist ! Waw !You can drive a path up to the lake were you can see a lot of flamingo's up close. There was a lot of wind, so filming is difficult. Tripod is not usable.

This is the (even more) isolated neighbour of piedras rojas. Just down the road, you get to experience this desolate lake and all the wind that comes with it!
Our guide (Marcos from Incanorth) took us there for just a quick stop, but we got to see flamingos and other birds around it.
Since you are so close, it's worth going the extra mile to see it!

We found this lake by accident but decided to have our picnic lunch here. It's past Aguas Calientes on the road towards Argentina.
Very scenic, great for photos & a relax. Free entry & no other tourists. Blissful!

Laguna Tuyacto (sometimes spelled Tuyajto) is almost at the border with Argentina and quite a drive from San Pedro. That is big plus as there are no other people there. It is not quite as majestic as the other lakes nearby. But it makes more than up for it by just being that quiet and serene location to sit back, relax and let the mind wander.

The contrast of the water in the Lagoon to the colors of the landscape makes for an amazing view. Definitely worth seeing
