- Izabella G11 contributionsAMAZING!Easily the best meal I’ve had in Cambodia. I learned so much and ate such amazing food. I recommend this to everyone traveling to Battambang for a few days, the market tour shows you the city and the cooking shows you the flavors of Cambodia. We made 4 courses for only $10?! Overall an amazing and delicious experience!Visited February 2020Written February 5, 2020
- apluslDevon, United Kingdom69 contributionsGreat classWe came to this cooking class yesterday and had a great time. There were 2 other groups so 6 people altogether so a nice small group. You don’t get to choose what you’re cooking but that’s pretty common for a cooking class! We are vegetarian and savath was really good at switching things to include no meat or fish. We made spring rolls, amok, mango salad and coconut lyly. It was very hands on and really good fun. Savath also told us lots of additional information about Cambodia and their culture, history, current struggles etc which was really interesting. She’s a very interesting lady to talk to. We finished it off by eating what we’d made and getting a little certificate which is a really nice touch and good keepsake. Honestly cannot believe it was only $10. Absolute bargain.Visited January 2020Traveled as a coupleWritten January 13, 2020
- Sean M14 contributionsExcellent and Authentic Cooking courseExcellent and Authentic Cambodian cooking course. This is a great family run business. We made 3 savory dishes and a pudding. The place is well equipped, there is an emphasis on good hygiene. The instructor and in fact the whole family were serious about the cooking and food while being fun, laid back and flexible. I planned to attend the next morning, but they were able to fit me in with a another couple the same afternoon. Recipe book was supplied, we were able to choose the dishes we made from the list in the recipe book. You visit the market, buy some ingredients. You then make the food under instruction. When it is cooked you eat your food in the restaurant. All in all this was an excellent way to spend an afternoon and excellent value for money. Thank you so much.Visited February 2020Traveled soloWritten February 1, 2020

Did Coconut Lyly’s cooking course this afternoon and it was amazing! Lyly showed us the market and told us about local life and foods, then we went back to their restaurant and Lyly’s wife Savath ran us through our food course. She was so sweet, funny and lovely and told us all about local culture. The food was incredible as well — more than worth it! A must-do when in Battambang!!

We did a cooking class in Coconut Lyly during our stay in Battambang. It was an amazing experience. First, we've been to the market with Lyly, the chef who owns the restaurant, to know more about the local products and then we cooked a whole Cambodian menu. Our teacher was a female chef who was really kind, funny and gave us a lot of advices to cook Cambodian food once back at home to replace the products that we don't have. It was a nice moment and we really enjoyed the tasting. Plus this is a familial restaurant and the atmosphere was really warm, everyone was so friendly. We really encourage you to have this experience with Coconut Lyly.

Had a great experience learning to cook several local dishes from Savath. We made fish amok, tofu loklak, and green mango salad, as well as coconut lyly. They are very accommodating to dietary restrictions as well, clarifying anything that includes meat or other animal products that you can choose to omit. It was a great experience all around.

Stayed 3 days in Battambang and went to this restaurant 4 times!!! Was first blown away by their Green Mango Salad and then returned for the vegan tofu amok (just let them know you’re vegan) which was the best thing I ate in Cambodia.
I loved the food and the family who own it so much that I went back for their cooking class which was a highlight of my trip in Cambodia. Highly recommend you do their cooking class because it’s so authentic and in-depth, plus the food at the end is amazing due to the fresh ingredients from the market. No shortcuts are made in the process of their cooking as the coconut milk and pastes are all freshly made.
Beautiful place 💕 wonderful experience.

Fantastic experience!
Sukkim is a great chef and teacher. She explains nicely how to cook the dishes and what can be used as a replacement if the ingredient is not available in your home city.
I wholeheartedly recommend this cooking course and good value for money.

Really great cooking class! It’s 15 dollars each but you don’t then have to buy dinner (we did the afternoon class) and it includes a fruit platter at the beginning. Took 3 hours and was very interesting. The food is delicious! Savath and Lyly speak amazing English and it’s so great to be able to speak to local people about life in Cambodia. You absolutely must do this if you come to Battambang.

The cooking class was very good! It had a market tour included, free water and 4 dishes for the price of just 15$ per person. The family is very nice and friendly so you can feel a nice atmosphere during the cooking class and might also get a few insights in the local culture.
However it might not be the most suitable for vegetarians since the provided recipes doesn't feature the vegetarian versions of the dishes and a lot of ingredients are just left out for vegetarians instead of being replaced, like the gelatine in the dessert leading to a different structure.

We came here last night and had the most beautiful meal, and book to come and learn how to cook it for ourselves. Such great value for only $10 each, we came away with lunch and a great little cook book. Our hosts were so friendly and informative, we collected our ingredients from the local market before coming back to prepare our meal. A great fun morning, can’t recommend Lyly and his lovely family Restaurant and cooking school enough.

Me and my partner did the Coconut Lyly cooking class and it's definitely a highlight of our whole time in Cambodia.
Savath is a great teacher, and also incredibly nice. She helped us with all the dishes explaining traditional Cambodian methods of cooking and she also spoke perfect English.
First, she took us to the local market to pick out some fresh local ingredients for our 3 chosen mains and 1 dessert. Then we headed back to the restaurant to prepare and cook the dishes.
Not only did we learn how to cook Khmer food, Savath also told us alot about Cambodian culture.
Highly recommend to anyone visiting Battambang, Coconut Lyly is a must.

Hi there, can you please advise
1) How long is the cooking class?
2) do you select your own dishes, or does everyone cook the same dish
3) what dishes did you cook?
Thanks in advance. TomD

Hi- the class lasts the afternoon as first you read through the recipe book (there are two options of three dishes and you pick the one you would like.) Then you go to the local market to buy ingredients. Cooking takes 1-2 hours depending on meal and speed. Then you have as long as you want to eat and relax in the restaurant. You also keep the recipe book. Hope this helps! Enjoy!
