About
Phare Ponleu Selpak – "the Brightness of the Arts" in Khmer – is a non-profit arts school located in Battambang, Cambodia offering support to children, youth, and the surrounding communities through artistic, educational, and social support programs. ||| Circus shows happen every Monday, Thursday, and Saturday starting at 7 p.m. and doors open at 6 p.m. Arrive early to grab a cold drink, visit our art exhibition hall and shop in the boutique! ||| Free campus tours happen Monday-Friday at 8:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m. 4:30 p.m. Tours don't require a reservation.

Phare Ponleu Selpak is an amazing organization providing wonderful education to so many children and youth, which not only build skills, but also enhances their mental and emotional well-being. The campus is beautiful, and I would definitely recommend doing both the campus tour and the evening circus show. If you happen to only be in Battambang on a day the show does not take place, I would still recommend that you visit for the campus tour. They will explain to you how not to be disruptive and ensure child protection. The shows here are different than the one in Siem Reap, so even if you've been to the performance there or seen some of their special performances in Phnom Penh, I would definitely recommend visiting the Battambang campus and show.

I saw the show "Influence" - the story telling came through loud and clear, and the performers were excellent as were the musicians who accompanied the performance. It's a great experience and I loved the reaction of the Cambodian kids in the audience. Tickets were easy to arrange through my accommodation and I think it was a bargain at $14.

We were sceptical when our hotel suggested a visit to a circus in Battambang. But we were persuaded and so pleased we did

Firstly it’s not really a circus but a dance performance which includes some circus skills such as acrobatics and juggling. Secondly it has no animals. Thirdly it’s not a wholly polished tourist trap but is a little frayed around the edges (which gives it a real charm) and when a mistake is made the performers shrug it off or do it again.
What makes it so enjoyable is the enthusiasm and sheer joy of the performers. They disarm you leaving you willing them to do well and cheering them on. We’re quite weary, cynical travellers but this left us charmed by the big hearted performances of all involved. Just go.

This is such a fun filled hour long show. The performers appear to be having as much fun as the audience and engage the crowd very well. Make a point of going and supporting their efforts to help young people, you are guaranteed to walk out smiling.

We have seen some world class circus performers over the last few years and and this group challanged some of the greats! Extremely entertaining. They have an entire art education programme here and have student exhibitions you can see before the show. There are very motivated performers at this circus. Please go please support this fantastic group.

Well worth seeing. This is effectively a circus ‘school’ where the performers are given scholarships and will hone their craft before joining the main circus in Siem Reap. It has a great feel about it and the performers put so much passion into their performances. There is a bar onsite selling beers, soft drinks and snacks. Must-see if you are in Battambang. The kids loved it.

Highly recommended to go and have a look at one of the shows these artists present you. It’s funny and exciting to watch their acrobatics with a (ghost) story. Let’s also not forget the art of the traditional/modern music that goes with the show. We really enjoyed this evening and initiative where children get an opportunity to develop their own skills. The also present art exhibition shows what else these children learn here.

This is an amazing place and we saw a pretty spectacular show! This whole project is inspiring and worthy of your donation alone, but the show we saw was easily worth its price. It had everything that modern circus needs: an awesome live band, impressive stunts, a fun story (which, despite it being in the local language, we were still able to follow) with plenty funny moments (great physical comedy!), and an awesome energy to the show overall.
And yes, they are students, so once or twice they had to try something again, but that only makes it so much more fun when they do succeed and it makes it SO much more scary when they attempt the dangerous stuff.
We had a blast of an evening without compromise. I cannot recommend this enough!

Such an amazing performance! This place is a non-profit circus school which provides free teaching to kids in need. The performance they give wit the pupils of their school is just breath taking. A must-see in Battambang

Firstly, this circus is amazing as it helps children around Battambang and Cambodia to have better lives. The circus itself was INCREDIBLE!!! I expected it to be really good but it massive exceeded my expectations. There was one guy in the act (who's name I didn't get unfortunately) who was so hilarious and was making us belly laugh and cry with laughter thanks to his comic genius and stage presence! The music is all live and so well timed so it really makes the show! Thank you so much to everyone there for making it a rememberable experience for us!

The shows tend to be Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday so there isn’t a show on the 30th. There may be a show on the 1st Dec... the shows and performers change but all have received rave reviews.
Speak to your accommodation and see if they can book you for the 1st when you arrive. Hope that helps.

If you go to their website, there is a list of upcoming events with dates and times. They are also on Facebook and you can message them with your queries. I think dates and times may vary depending on the time of year, as does the program. You must go, it was a definite highlight of my trip.

We already saw your circus show in Siem Reap and we really enjoyed it! :D
Also we have read that you do guided tours to let visitors see your classes and studios and we would love to attend one of them. Will there be any in the following week, meaning from 17th to 21st of April 2017? We couldn't find any information about that on your website, but we are looking forward to your reply soon, since we wouldn't stay in Battambang otherwise for additional days.

Hello dear traveller. We organize tours on the campus from Monday to Friday, from 9.30 to 11.30 AM, then from 2 to 4 PM.
This week the campus is closed on Monday, due to Khmer New Year holidays.
