- Kirsten S3 contributionsAmazing tour / familyAmazing family and food. Also booked the tour via Smokin’ Pot’s website. Would definitely recommend this. His son of 7 y/o joined the whole day and was an amazing tour guide!Visited October 2023Traveled soloWritten October 25, 2023
- Nino B3 contributionsGreat dinner and cooking classSmokin pot is a great Cambodian restaurant with a nice owner who also gives good cooking classes. A lot of the food at the restaurant is local food from the Cambodian cuisine, like Amok, Khmer curry, sour soup or Lok Lak. I tasted all of these dishes from my friends plates and all would have been a great choice for dinner or lunch. The fresh one dollar shakes are also a good choice. The cooking class is also great fun. You get to go to the market to get the ingredients which you will use for cooking. And then everyone gets to make their own Cambodian dish at the house of the owner. The owner knows a lot and has a lot of passion for cooking, so he gives good information about the dishes and tells you what the ingredients are useful for. You will make fresh curry and sauces to use for your meal. In total we had three dishes during the cooking class and we also got the recipes so that we could make the dishes at home. Overall a great place to do a cooking class and have dinner! Definitely recommend!Visited November 2023Traveled with friendsWritten November 20, 2023
- Romy1 contributionVery nice cooking class! The cooking class of mr vannak was amazing! It was so nice to see his house and family where the cooking class took place. You can choose what you want to eat and cook. The food was delicious and it was fun to buy all ingredients together with him on the market! He can answer all your questions about the food but also give you information about Cambodia :) Kind regards, Romy and MarliesVisited December 2023Traveled with friendsWritten December 28, 2023
- Venture361930494622 contributionsA fabulous and authentic Khmer cooking experienceMy son and I did Vannak’s cooking class this morning. We were looking for something authentic and gosh, did we find it! A brilliant Khmer culinary experience. This is not Michelin-type dining; look somewhere else for that. Instead, this is sourcing, preparing, cooking and eating delicious food in a traditional way. I gave it 5 stars and would have given it 6 if I could. Vannak was a wonderful host, and to prepare a meal in his humble home in the countryside will long live in our memories. Highly recommended.Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 4, 2024
- Odyssey305192228941 contributionMust do cooking classesI highly recommend Vannak's cooking classes. His English is top notch, the market segment was excellent as he has a great relationship with the stall holders which allowed us to try anything we wanted. We cooked some delicious food and learnt some great techniques. I couldn't believe how good my dishes tasted! A key reason for choosing smokin' pot was we got to pick the dishes as opposed to the other classes on offer who all do the same thing. This allowed us to tailor it to things we could actually cook back home in Australia. He was quick with the comms and on time for the pickup so it was 10/10 experience all round.Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 5, 2024
- Maps24206980368Progreso, Mexico12 contributions3btravelerCooking Class The whole experience was excellent from start to finish. We were promptly picked up at our hotel at 3 pm and taken to an outlying food stall Market where we shopped for our ingredients needed to make 3 Khmer dishes. We had one other person in our group which made for getting to know each other easy. We prepared the dishes step by step with instructions from Vannak. My husband made Fish Amok, Beef Lok Lak and Mango Salad and I made Chicken Amok, Beef Stirfry and Mango Salad. We finished cooking by 6 pm and we had our wonderful creations for dinner. Our mouths had an explosion of flavor as we ate our meal. Thank you Vannak for teaching us the history of Khmer food. I hope more people come enjoy your cooking lessons. - Melstar208 contributionsTraditional Khmer cookingVanaks cooking class was one of the highlights of my trip to Battambang. He is a passionate, expressive man who cares deeply about retaining and promoting his culture and traditional Khmer food. He happily shared his story with us which provided more meaning for me while we were preparing and cooking the delicious fresh foods he had purchased at the market. The market experience was another element enjoyed immensely as part of what he offers with his class. Highly recommendVisited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 6, 2024
- Matthew CBexhill-on-Sea, United Kingdom44 contributionsA must visit restaurantWe just used the restaurant and so glad we did. Food was amazing and manager/owner and his family so lovely. If you are in Battambang I would definitely recommend you seek out this restaurant. We ate here on both our nights and will miss the food when we move onto our next destination. If you see the tables are empty when you walk pass grab one quickVisited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 11, 2024
- Sabbina A7 contributionsBest cooking classThis cooking class was very insightful and very fun! We went to a local market where we got our ingredients, we were told lots of facts about each ingredient, things that I didn’t know and I found very interesting. We also saw meats that you wouldn’t get in a regular shop, it was a real eye opener! We did the cooking class at Van’s lovely home, it was very well set up outside and it was well shaded, so you wasn’t burning up in the heat! Vannack was very easy to chat to as his English was very good and you can tell he loves his job as he had a lot of passion. He was clear at explaining each step in detail. The food we made was delicious! Best Cambodian food I’ve had so far - we made the lok lak, amok and mango salad! 10/10!! I would 100% recommend this cooking class, the whole experience felt very authentic too.Visited March 2024Traveled with friendsWritten March 12, 2024
- Kaitlyn B2 contributionsBeyond amazingMost amazing, authentic, personalised cooking class I have ever done! Vannak took us to the local markets, where we got to pick out all the ingredients for our chosen meals we wanted to cook. He let us try numerous fruits, and explained in detail what each thing was and how to find the best produce. Then we went back to his lovely family home where we cooked our delicious Khmer food, whilst learning more about Khmer culture, Vannak and his journey in life. It was thoroughly incredible and I truly recommend to everyone. Thank you Vannak for sharing your knowledge, wisdom and experience. Hopefully will see you sometime again.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 17, 2024

Vannak’s class is a must-do in Battambang! Everything was delicious and logistics were so easy. Vannak was very responsive over email and picked us up from our hostel in town right on time at 9am. From there we went to his local market, outside of town where all his neighbors go. After purchasing all your ingredients from the market Vannak asks if you want to walk to his home (where you’ll be cooking) or take a tuk tuk. We highly recommend the walk! It’s just 20 minutes, nice and flat, and you get to learn about all the fruit trees and other produce that is grown and later sold in the market. We made three delicious dishes and can’t wait to try it at home - he even emails you the recipe after. The way you learn to cook here is 100% traditional, which we wouldn’t have had from a cooking class in the center of town. With Vannak, you cook from a clay/charcoal stove, make coconut milk from scratch, make your own banana leaf bowl for the fish amok. Lastly, I recommend booking the class directly through Vannak’s website - all inquiries are sent directly to him and he is so helpful and quick to respond. Thank you Vannak!

I will not tell in detail how the couple of hours spent with Vannak went. Many other reviewers already did. I especially appreciated ... well, everything!
Besides the cooking itself and the warm welcome of Vannak, I very much enjoyed the fact the place is outside the city, the visit of the market and the various explanations on products, etc. provided by Vannak, also the 20 min walk to get to the cooking place and here also all the comments and details provided by Vannak.
In short, I loved this experience.

A big thank you to our cooking teacher, Vannak. Being taken around the market was so interesting and all my questions about Asian ingredients were answered. I really enjoyed getting to smell the ingredients as we went around. We learned to make 3 different delicious dishes from fresh fresh ingredients. My favourite part of the class was learning to make different pastes from scratch, and learning and how to extract our own milk from fresh coconut. We learned so many new techniques through the afternoon. Vannak is very welcoming and well-humoured and had some great stories to share as we learned from him. The food we made was the best I’ve tasted in Cambodia. You’d be a fool to miss this. Lots of fun. We left with full bellies and big smiles!

I recently did the course with my daughter (aged 8) and we had a great experience. Vannak was really approachable and had a great passion and knowledge of Cambodian cuisine. We started by going to the market to buy the ingredients and then went to his kitchen to make three dishes, before then having the opportunity to eat them. The food was delicious and we now have the recipes so we can make again at home. Recommended.

Vannak is incredible! We got picked up from our hostel in town and taken to a local market to buy the ingredients for our cooking class. This was so interesting with Vannak explaining the various foods. We then had a delightful walk from the market to his house where we passed by many different trees and plants that Vannak had stories about. The cooking class itself flowed seamlessly where we made fish amok, beef lok lak and mango salad. I highly recommend this well organised experience to better get a feel of local culture.

Amazing experience that will give you a taste (pun intended) of local culture as well as cooking. Van shows you around the market and entertains any and all “what is that??” questions. Then he walks you through the village where you can really see the day to day lives of local people. And if that isn’t enough, then you get to cook three different Khmer dishes right in Van’s home. I have never had the experience of cooking outside in open air with portable woks - it was so much fun. He is accommodating to any dietary restrictions and he makes sure that everything is very clean and sanitary. This is a cooking experience unlike anything else and so worth it. Highly recommend!

We booked this online which couldn’t have been easier as the website is very easy to use. We followed the good reviews and booked it for the very good price of 12 dollars each as a group of 3.
We started by looking round the local market and sourcing ingredients which we then turned into a 3 separate traditional Khmer dishes in which we started from scratch.
It was great fun cooking under the trees in the outdoors and ended up with some great food.
Couldn’t recommend enough !!

We really enjoyed this cooking class. Different from the other options in town, this one really let you experience the real Cambodian cooking, on wood/clay stoves and a little ride outside the busy city (free pickup from your hotel!) We got a lot of information about ingredients on the market and could taste different types of fruits. All in all a great experience, full of passion. Thanks!

The cooking class starts with a tuk tuk ride to the market to buy ingredients accompanied by Chef Vannak’s explanations. With ingredients in hand, you head over to his family home for an authentic cooking experience. Vannak guides you through and shares cooking tips such as how to tenderize meat with a slap of a cleaver and how to hold the knife while prepping ingredients. I loved using a homemade tool to shred coconut and then extract the milk using a cheese cloth and some muscle! The food was delicious and the conversation was even better. Vannak emails the recipes after the class (saves paper! Go green!). Highly recommend!!!
