About
My name is Vannak, I have been a cook all my life and decided, 20 years ago, to open my own cooking school, Smokin'Pot. Located in the countryside, this Khmer Cooking class gives you an authentic experience of Cambodia. Not only will you acquire the knowledge and secrets of Khmer cuisine but you will also get to use traditional unique equipment & techniques.
Join our small groups for a more personal atmosphere. We'll take you on a culinary adventure from the local market back to our heartfelt traditional family kitchen, where you will prepare 3 delicious meals of your choice. Our cooking classes cost just $15 and include;

Fantastic local and authentic Cambodian cookery school. Van picked us up from our hostel at 9 and took us to the market in his village, about 20 minutes outside the town, where we picked up the ingredients. He then took us to his school and taught us three dishes, all of which were great! We were then dropped off after in the early afternoon.
A really great experience, and I recommend it to all those visiting Battambang as a relatively inexpensive and immersive local activity 👍🏽

Really nice cooking class experience and highly recommended! Incl shopping at the market and cooking from scratch.
We did several different meals with excellence guidance for a reasonable piece of 12$ pp.
Pickup service both ways was included as well

We booked this online which couldn’t have been easier as the website is very easy to use. We followed the good reviews and booked it for the very good price of 12 dollars each as a group of 3.
We started by looking round the local market and sourcing ingredients which we then turned into a 3 separate traditional Khmer dishes in which we started from scratch.
It was great fun cooking under the trees in the outdoors and ended up with some great food.
Couldn’t recommend enough !!

What an incredible experience learning about Cambodian food and culture. Vannak speaks perfect English and was such a pleasure to spend the day with. The cooking school is open even though there restaurant in downtown Battambang is closed due to low tourism. Simply send him an email on their website to make a booking. We cannot recommend enough this experience to learn authentic Cambodian cuisine in the countryside and also help a lovely family.

The best experience we had in Cambodia - Vannak is hugely knowledgeable, friendly and interesting! It was just us in the group which made it feel very personal and private. The setting of his lovely house in the countryside really adds to the experience, as it makes it feel authentically Cambodian. Eating the delicious food we’d cooked while chatting with Vannak was really interesting too, as he gave great insights into local Khmer life. If you visit Battambang you’ve got to come to Smokin’ Pot.

If you’re looking for an authentic Khmer cooking experience, this is the one! Vannak strongly believes in true traditional recipes and practices as well as preserving original Khmer culture. He was an excellent teacher and guided us through the preparation of three delicious dishes, explaining every ingredient and step thoroughly as we progressed. He also explained about all the various goods at the market while we were buying ingredients for the class, very interesting. This was definitely a highlight of our time in Battambang and we can highly recommend Smokin’ Pot cooking classes for anyone visiting the area.

Such a good class. Van arranged a pick up and we traveled 15 minutes to a local area outside the main city where we toured a local market to show what was on offer and we decided what to cook. Then we traveled back to his family home and had a very authentic class using all the local methods. The food was delicious and also so good to experience the local way of life surrounded by his lovely family.

We had the pleasure of taking the cooking class at Vannak's home yesterday. It was a wonderful experience that surpassed our expectations. Not only do you lear to cook (and eat) 3 great dishes, you also get to see a bit of Cambodian countryside and culture!
We got picked up at our hotel by a tuk tuk and then went straight to the local market with Vannak close to his home. There you first have to decide which dishes you would like to make and then he picks all the fresh ingredients (even live fish for the adventurous) for the dinner with you. Then you take a short drive to his lovely home where you are welcomed by his family and numerous chickens.
Vannak is a great cook and has many tips. Definitely try the "Fish Amok" it is a tasty and simple dish made in a very special way. If ever you come to Battambang definitely book a cooking class there:)
(btw the 12$ covers everything there were no extra payments)

It was a privilege to cook in Vannak's home. Following a trip to the market, we were taught how to make 3 authentic Khmer dishes from scratch (not only delicious but a sense of accomplishment!). Vannak's willingess to teach and share Khmer culture with us took this far beyond your normal cooking class. The followup with a recipe book that contained a number of delicious dishes enables us to bring this experience home too. Highly recommend!

If you want to learn about Khmer food and culture and enjoy cooking this is an excellent activity to do in Battambang. It’s also worth finding his street stall on the riverfront in the centre of town to taste his wares.
From first contact Vannak has been an outstanding host and teacher. Arrangements for the course were clear and we were able to decide our own pick up point in the centre. Four of us were picked up on time by tuktuk and taken to his local market where Vannak took us around many stalls purchasing everything we needed for our meals. We then headed through his village on a fascinating tour of what the local community are growing for market and themselves, much of which we were about to cook ourselves.
The preparation and cooking part was very effectively delivered and the end result, our food, was delicious. Vannak’s spoken English is excellent and throughout everything we did he was telling us about the culture of Cambodia. He is an excellent host.
