About
Lily's secret garden is a friendly Home Cooking Class at Lily's family house, just 5 minutes drive from Siem Reap center. The cooking experience starts in our garden with a drink after a in-depth visit of our favorite local market with Chris. We then shows you how to prepare a Cambodian 3 courses meal that you can recreate later with a cookbook. After cooking you can relax and enjoy the lunch or dinner that you've prepared with some new friends. Duration: 3hrs45. Morning or afternoon class. Morning cooking class: 1) Fresh spring rolls with chicken & homemade peanut sauce. 2) Lort-Cha: wok-fried thick short rice noodles and chicken. 3) Pumpkin in coconut cream. Afternoon cooking class: 1) Green mango salad with chicken. 2) Chicken red curry. 3) Banana in coconut cream. All classes are hands-on and easy to follow. Each guest has its own cooking station. Be ready to make everything from A to Z. Suitable for beginners or cordons bleus, vegetarian or vegan (advise us while booking).

Very good communication with Chris regarding the class and interesting tour of a local market before the cooking portion of the class. Darwin, the charming and thoughtful chef led 7 of us through the process of creating 3 dishes. We enjoyed meeting some very interesting fellow travelers from various parts of the world over while enjoying the delicious meal we created!

We were picked up by Chris right out front of the hard Rock cafe with no troubles. He was very friendly and showed us around the local market which was a very interesting experience. Once we arrived at his home we met Chef Dawin who instructed us through cooking three courses. We had the whole class to ourselves which was a good opportunity for us to learn a lot! All of our food came out perfectly and we loved eating in the beautiful backyard garden. Everyone involved in this operation is lovely and it was so nice to meet them and learn a bit about Cambodian food and lifestyle. The only thing I wish we had done was booked it a bit later in our trip so we could have tried more Khmer food and had more questions for Chris and Dawin. Either way, it was a great start to our time in Cambodia!

Hi Bree,
Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience.
We are happy that you liked it.
It is true that you can ask many things to our Chef while cooking as the intimate class at our house allows you to do so.
If sometimes you have some more questions about Cambodian cooking you can still contact us by email or through Facebook.
Thank you.
All the best and say hi to Alan.

We very much enjoyed Lily’s Secret Garden cooking class. Met Chris (Lily’s husband) without a problem . Headed straight to the markets to buy some needed ingredients and Chris was more than happy to answer any of our questions. After a short car trip , we arrived at Chris/Lily’s house where we met Lily and chef Darwin . Everything was well organised, clean and Darwin was excellent in his instructions and had a great sense of fun. The food we prepared was very tasty and we enjoyed sitting in Lily’s garden .

We did this lovely cooking class in our first morning in Siem Reap and had a great time. The thing we liked best about this cooking class compared to others was the trip to the local market with Chris. It was very interesting and nice to buy ingredients locally that we then used for cooking. Chef Darwin was lovely and patient and the food absolutely delicious. Definitely things we will remake at home. Overall, highly recommended for a fun time, great food and insight into local cuisine.

Dear Sonja,
Thank you for your feedback. We really appreciate it especially when it is so kind...
I really like to show the market in the morning because it is really alive and there is more to learn from Cambodian culture at that time.
Darwin enjoys his contribution to the class at our house. He is as you said patient, kind and I think fun too. We offer a class like we would like to experience it ourselves.
Not a cookery school, but a real intimate and different experience in a family house...
Thank you.
All the best. Say hello to Susan and Annika.

We had such a good time, and learned so much from this class. The market shop was a highlight, learning about the fruit and vegetables, and how local people eat. And Nelson (the chef) was both patient and informative. We will definitely be making green mango salad when we get home!

We have never joined a cooking class during a trip. The class started with Chris bringing us to a local market to choose ingredients for the cooking. Then we back to meet our chef, DARWIN! He is very friendly and taught us the three-course step by step. He answered our questions about Cambodia detailedly and helped us to take pictures during the class. It was a great one and highly recommended

We had such a wonderful time, would greatly recommend this class. Couldn't be easier. We were picked up at our hotel, had an informative tour of the market and a small intimate class of wonderful dishes. Chris also helped us with recommendations of local restaurants. Thank you for a great experience

Hi Leo55,
Thank you for coming home. I'm not sure who you are behind this nickname but thank you so much for your great support writting this review.
Cooking classes are one of the best ways to take a break from a temples visit and to learn more about a country's culture.
We wish you all the best.

Our family went (two teenagers) and had a great time. Our tour through the market was interesting and educational and we really enjoyed it. Then you go to Lily's and met Darwin, the cook, and he walked us through a great experience of preparing the dishes. We had a great time and can't wait to try the recipes they sent home with us. Put this on your list for sure!

I really enjoyed this cooking class, we started off with a tour through a local market, gathering supplies. Once we go back, our chef, Darwin walked us through making our dishes for the day. The recipes were very simple and for once we felt like we might be able to make this at home without any extra equipment required. Everyone was lovely and the food was delicious!

Y a t'il des cours en français ?
Chris D
Battambang, Cambodia17 contributions
Cordialement.
