About
The show is an emblematic attraction for Veliko Tarnovo. Dramatic music, multicolor lights, lasers and chiming bells are synchronized in an unique way to depict the tumultuous history of Bulgaria. Created in 1985 by a Czech-Bulgarian team, the show operates all year round, and can be watched for free on public holidays or may be booked for a fee, by request or according to pre-listed dates.

The communication about the necessity of purchasing tickets for the panoramic terrace by the "information center" located a few meters away from the entrance to Tsarovets should be greatly improved. We weren't informed that the show only lasts approximately 20 minutes! You have to wait in line outside the panoramic viewing area before the show and then are seated in rows so that some of the seats have limited visibility. For 50 leva I would have expected something longer and more spectacular. The 20 minute show is good....not at all great. Definitely don't waste your money on the special seating. You can enjoy the show for free right in front of the fortress! The "information" center seems to be more of a tourist trap than of any assistance!! Overrated attraction for sure.

Paid to see the show, trusting that the sounds would emphasize the experience we could otherwise have for free and would lead us to understand more about Bulgarian history. To be honest, it gave us nothing extra except some musical background while enjoying the lights. It truly was the most disappointing experience in an otherwise great town.

Watched this twice for free during our stay at Hotel Studio where we had the BEST view possible from our room overlooking the castle. You can pay to see this and it is worth it if you are only here for the one night, but as it was repeated so we were lucky. It was awesome each time and I completely recommend you catch it if you go there.

Is the best plan in veliko you see the light show from outside the fortress book in advance is around 15 euros per person but it worth it. All of people will tel you you can see it for free from the street and is true but is much better if you pay.

There is no denying the light show is great, and being able to hear the sound when you pay to the show adds another element. However we ended up having a better view from our balcony than when we went to watch the show. I’ve read it in previous reviews and I’ll repeat that the seating at the show need to be changed. Unless you’re in the front row your view will be obstructed because the seating is not tiered. It’s such a pity, especially for smaller people and children. I sent the time craning my neck around people to try get a good view. A lot of people ended up standing along the side instead. Surely it’s a simple enough change that will result in much more positive experiences and reviews.

I have seen the Tsarevgrad Turnovo Sound and Light Show several times over the past 10 years or so. It always is a pleasure and my family and guests always enjoy it.

I was lucky enough to be in Bulgaria when a free light show would take place so I connected it with a visit to Veliko Tarnovo. I saw the city for about 3-4 hours and then went to the fortress square to watch the light show. It began at 19.10 and ended punctually at 19.30. I could easily go back to the bus station (a shot 5 minute taxi ride, walking it would be around 30 minutes) to catch my bus back to Sofia at 20.00. It is impressive and I find it lovely that such cool thing happens in a rather not so big city. I liked especially when rays were coming out of the fortress. The music is a bit creepy but it is cool. I liked the atmosphere, everyone was enjoying, many families with children despite the cold weather. Perhaps next time I get seats for the panoramic terrace. Would like to see some photos from there to see how different the view from the square is.

What an amazing experience! We were by chance in town for the Feast of St George so were fortunate enough to see the show.
It depicts the history of the city, the former capital of Bulgaria using dramatic lighting and music around the fortress.
If you have the opportunity, don't miss it!

On Easter, you will have a chance to see the unique spectacle “Sound and light” free over Tsarevets Fortress. The start of the show is on April 16 at 9 p.m. and can be seen from the square “Tsar Asen I”. This is not the only surprise that Veliko Turnovo Municipality has prepared to celebrate the holiday in the city.
