General Gurko Street is one of the oldest and most picturesque streets of the old town of Veliko Tarnovo. Full of houses which are typical examples of the architecture from the Bulgarian Revival, all of them built on the steep hill slope, facing the Yantra River with beautiful views of the river itself and the Asenevtsi Monument awkwardly sitting on the Yantra's meander. A number of guest-houses are there as well. I would not say it is a must-see though.

According to Google Maps this is called Ulitsa Sveti Nicola 14. Our guide took us up the winding mountain path to the monastic retreat used by monks in times when it was unsafe to be found by the local invaders. Here they could practice their devotions in safety.

A wonderful historical cobblestone street with a view towards the old town of Veliko Tarnovo and Asen's Monument. I definitely recommend it for sunset walks and petting stray cats :)

nice street with beautiful view, but some of the houses were almost destroyed and left to the fate. There was also a lot of garbage on the street.

This street is good for pictures but it does not mean that other streets in the town don't do a good job. But it has been recommended by some locals friends and also travel blogs so I decided to check it out. I did not see anything that differentiated it from other streets but I think it is worth checking it out, it is in the Old Town anyway. It is rumored to be full of cats. But whole Bulgaria is full of stray cats anyway.

This is the oldest street in Veliko Târnovo. A must-see with beautiful views towards the Yantra River and Asen Monument. Its full with beutifully renovated old Bulgarian houses - colorful and happy. Fills one's heart with positive feelings. The tiny craft stores are a pleasure to alk into.

When we were there, the place was under reconstruction. Even so, it is easy to realize how beautiful the place is and how pleasant will be if you would have the opportunity to live there for a while. The view to the Yantra River valley and Asen’s Monument is spectacular, very appropriate for beautiful pictures. The houses on Ulitsa General Gurko (General Gurko Street) are old and keep the architectural style of Ottoman and Bulgarian houses specific to the past centuries. It’s a charming place for an evening stroll.

This small narrow street is where the tour of Veliko Tarnovo ends. It's picturesque, quaint, and charming. There's a beautiful view of the river running below the street. There are many old charming houses from the Ottoman era adding to the charm and beauty of the area.
