Great legacy left by queen Mary of Romania
A very nice place buit by The Queen May of România, based on her plans, as a personal regreta, the place Where she requested to be burried her heart after her death( this is how much she loved this place). After Romania lost this territory, the palace remained on Bulgarian administration. The gardens are very nice and well preserved. The palace was a disappointment as you can’t see it all, a lot of spaces were closed, unfurnished (maybe some virtual reality could be considered, in order for the visitors to see how was back there; maybe some short videos with the queen here).

Recommendation - you must also visit the gardens, its are very beautiful!
The castle and gardens in Balcic belonged to the royal family from Romania, when this territory belonged to Romania. Even if it is known as Balcic castle, the building is just a villa, relatively modest for a royal family of that period. Instead, the gardens are spectacular, well-kept and create a good mood. Access is paid separately – one ticket for the castle and another for the gardens, but both are worth it. We had difficulties in finding a parking place for the car. Google maps directs you to a private parking lot with rather difficult access.

Rude employers, castle is not a castle but the gardens are gorgeous
The gardens are pretty, it’s a pretty peaceful place but i recomend not going in a too sunny day because gets so warm. I went in July and was terrible hot. I am not giving 5 stars because they force you to buy the entrance to the castle even having separate tickets for it. i told her we just wanted to see the garden but the woman was completely rude, in the end was 66 levs, and the castle is not a “CASTLE” it’s a summer residence, very little to nothing to see, not worth the price, i wish the staff was nicer

Visited last week after a long time. Not much change, the cactus garden seems to be the highlight still. Some exhibitions have been added and were good to see. The Palace is nice and the story of the queen well presented. The downsides - getting tickets is mad, 2 different organisations manage the place so you queue twice to pay for a ticket from each. The guy who guides people to the parking is a bit ott, herding people, checking 20 times you have paid. No need. There are maps around the place but no signs at the entrance as to what is where. Homeless dogs roaming the place too.

Views are magnificent to be fair. It is worth seeing but not worth going to see.

For some unknown reason, they sell 2 types of tickets, one for the bothanical garden (8 bgn), which is very dissapointing, and another one for the palace (6 bgn). These 2 attractions cannot be visited separately, but on top of this, the tickets are sold in 2 differrent offices.
I am not sure which is the reason for this twisted way of visiting, maybe the authorities will reconsider this.

3/5 only due to the botanical garden. The "castle" tour takes 10-15 minutes. Yet, the garden (visited 1st of September 2021) has been great. Open ground, beautiful flora, it gives you the feeling of freedom. You will need at least half a day to tour the whole grounds.

And now let's get to the worst part: you will need both the ticket for the castle and the garden in order to visit the "castle", which is a few rooms long and nothing as impressive as advertised on the inside. On the outside, it looks quite impressive.

Both the tickets cost 15 Leva, which I considee a scam.

All garden was dried up. The soil was not watered for a few weeks, dead plants everywhere, an expose room with 6 golden cups and the castle experience takes about 15 minutes. I don't know why it's called a castle.. not even close.

And instead of making a full price of 15BGN, you purchase separate tickets, which are mandatory.. makes no sense.

I'm sorry I went there. Waste of time and not nice staff.

So they have separate tickets for parts of the garden. You buy a ticket to see the garden and at some point they stop and tell you that you can’t go further as you should have a separate ticket... really????? Lost any desire to see it or recommend to anyone.

A beautiful place, but our there were dangerous places,on the walking area where was mud and moisture on the footpath with no warning signs. It was very dangerous because our child felt down and hurt himself badly.
The personal takes no responsibility for maintaining the area!!!
You pay on two different desks and the very end-no one is willing to take action.
Please, be careful and watch your steps all the time!

At the entrance they tried to force us to buy tickets to the palace as well, although we only wanted to visit the botanical garden. There are separate ticket offices, managed by different companies: the palace is in charge of the Balchik municipality, the gardens are in charge of the Faculty of Horticulture in Sofia. The cost of the ticket is 15 leva for the gardens and 15 leva for the palace. When they heard that we only wanted a ticket to the botanical garden, the cashier from the palace tickets and the guard at the entrance yelled at us, insulted us, pushed us out, and simply did not allow us to buy tickets from the ticket office for the botanical garden. Because I knew exactly that it is allow to visit only the gardens (I asked an employee day before), I resisted the wave of threats and after 20 minutes, they let us in. It's incredible that something like this, is possible in tourism!

The prices I found on the websites were wrong. June 2023 : They charge 15 Leva for the "palace", then 15 Leva for the gardens, and you HAVE TO take the two. 15 euros is very expensive, especially for Bulgaria. They dont take cards, so if you haven't planned enough cash, too bad for you. Disgusting welcome.

Visiting the Palace and the gardens of Balchik was an interesting experience. The remnanats of the old style communist buracracy coudl be still seen as we had to buy separate tickets from two people sitting less than 2 meters apart. Also many of the buildings were closed for visitors but people seemed to go in and out of them. The palace is small but the gardens are more generous including a waterfall.
