The historic city is composed of an old square with a church, a former convent, and colonial houses from the time of the Portuguese occupation. Two other churches and old mansions suffice to make a trip to Sao Cristovao worth it, if you're in Aracaju, the present capital.

This are two small cities that are part of the Brazilian ancient history. Both have small historical city centers that can be visited in a few hours. You will see most thing from the outside and few places have internal visits. But it is nice to see the Brazil of colonial days.

Both cities are only half an hour away from Aracaju (Rodoviária Velha, only 2,10 and 2,25Rs) Laranjeiras has a more rural aspect, less touristy. A few hours are enough to stroll around. There's 1 pousada in the center. If interested in climbing a church tower, go for the Morro do Bonfim Hill, climb up the street leading to it and... More
