Exploring Pinheiros, a neighborhood known for cozy restaurants and cafes, you will notice a youthful energy. Several cultural centers and institutes surround the area and even its main church, Calvário, hosts a traditional Brazilian “Festa Junina” - a celebration with traditional music, dance, and food during the months of June and July. On the weekends, residents gather at Benedito Calixto Square, a loud and crowded area where people enjoy live music drinks alongside the antiquities fair.

Entering the store, you get an amazing and delicious cheese aroma: what a surprise to find Érico cheeses (Pé do Morro) there, amidst a very good variety of fine cheeses produced here in Brazil. We were met by the kind and charismatic Bea: we tasted some and took a cheese that was awarded in contest. All very tasty, a treat for those who love cheese. It is very worth knowing.

If you go to a supermarket or grocery in Brazil with the idea of buying some cheese you may be disappointed. The main type is cheese from minas, (queijo mineiro), packed in pastic and rather tasteless. Then you will find Brazilian versions of parmesan, brie, gorgonzola and what not. Also rather bland. (to be frank this also hold for supermarkets elsewhere). For real cheese you need to go to a real cheese shop. Unfortunately there weren't any in São Paulo. Till 'A Queijaria' opened its doors some time ago. If you like cheese - I mean good cheese - this is the place to go! They currently have some 150+ cheeses from different parts of Brazil. Many of them over one year of age, very rich in taste, remarkable textures. It is located in the charming Vila Madalena neighbourhood with its many restaurants and bars, at the beginning of Rua Aspicuelta. If you go towards nr 600 of the same street there are some lovely and lively bars...
