…………This beautiful manor-house now turned into a museum the once residence of the Marquesa of Santos “Domitilia de Castro” show how this building has transformed since its beginnings in the 18th century. Lots of details are to be observed in the architectural works and also there are lots of details explaining the excavation works which took place over many years unearthing many artifacts of the possessions of this important lady in the history of Sao Paulo. There are bits of cups, plates and many more things like keys etc, etc. Some of the original brick-works are preserved and framed out so visitors can have a glimpse of how it was back in the day. Many statues lay on the floor in the foyer so one has an understanding of how well this place must have been decorated in its interior and exterior grounds. An intriguing museum with the entree-fee being free of charge. It’s worth a visit as it’s only a stones through from the founders square…..

I was surprised, it´s a very well preserved house, that makes us go back in times, when São Paulo was leaving it´s town aspect to be a city. The lady lived there was a bright person, and some of her furniture is there. Rooms are big, with high windows facing nice views... Go there even if you are just passing by! Be aware if you go on Sundays and by underground: there use to be some people doing "nothing" in the way, although there are also policemen around.
