Neighborhood:
Sé, which derives its name from Sé Square, is a central neighborhood in historic São Paulo. Close by, the Law School, the Museum of the Court of Justice and the Metropolitan Cathedral offer inspiring architecture. If you are looking for cultural activities, head to Caixa Cultural and check the schedule. In the area there is a popular pedestrian street called “Rua Direita”, one of the first streets in the region, which today marks the crowded perimeter. Sé is a great area to explore during daytime, but use caution if visiting alone at night.

Dec 2018 • Friends
If you are wanting to see beautiful 1920's architecture this is a gem. The house is so pretty and filled with history of São Paulo and Paulista Ave. There is a rose garden and nice restaurant as well, I loved it.

A surprising rose garden at iconic Paulista Avenue!
Jan 2018 • Friends
At the very beginning of Paulista Avenue, almost in front of "Japan House São Paulo", and not far from "Sesc - Avenida Paulista" and "Itaú Cultural" centers, a rose garden will immediately catch your attention. At its side, a decaying old manor house in classic French style. This mansion was built, around 1935, by acclaimed Brazilian architect Francisco de Paula Ramos de Azevedo for his own family. The family lived in its 30 rooms and surrounding gardens until 1980. After some negotiations, the historical house was renovated and a cultural center, devoted to poetry and literature was opened in 2004. Combine your visit with the nearby above mentioned cultural centers and enjoy one of the last houses in the iconic Paulista Avenue, where wealthy coffee barons chose to live in the 19th and 20th centuries. Enjoy!

A graphic testimony of Av Paulista rich diversity!
Apr 2018
This large mansion is a vestige of São Paulo's coffee wealth of the 30'. It is surrounded by a rose garden and lost in a forrest of skyscrapers. It is protected by the Government and open to the public, for visits as well as for exhibitions and cultural events. It is often accommodating school visits, so it is sometimes difficult to access. In the back of the mansion is a coffee shop-restaurant, offering indoors as well as pleasant outdoors sitting. When we visited, we froze as a cold wind was spinning around the huge building located behind the Mansion. The place is worth a visit, as it is a graphic testimony of the Avenida Paulista rich diversity.

Famous "house of roses" in dangerous dacay
May 2017 • Family
One of most beautiful house in the beginning of Paulista avenue, the last symbol of golden times of coffee baron is claiming for help. Preserved with a garden, with plenty of bushes and a fountain, the open area certainly worth a visit and to grab a coffee. Unfortunely, it not the time of blossoming of roses. The 2-floor imponent mansion in Renaissance French style needs some repair, although it is still interesting to know how lived wealthy and intelectual people in past century. The house is integrated with a modern glazed building. The typical stained glasses and the stairs are integrants of the house listed as historial heritage of São Paulo. There is a small library inside, book shop and lounges for activities, courses and exhibitions. Now is also known as Haroldo de Campos space of Poetry and Literature. Accessible for disabled persons. Excellent for architects and literature fans. Check the schedule of programs before going there.

Quiet(ish) Hideaway in Avenida Paulista
Aug 2016 • Solo
This is one of the few remaining villas in Avenida Paulista that were built for the coffee barons in the early 20th century and houses a cultural center run by the state government. It hosts exhibitions, concerts and artistic events and is only a minute´s walk from the Itau Cultural Center so the visitor can easily combine a visit to both places at the same time. Entrance is free in both cases.

The pleasant three-story French-style building, with balconies and a porch, looks onto Paulista on one side and is overlooked by a massive glass commercial building on the other. The area between the two buildings, that are so representative of the city´s history as Brazil´s financial and industrial powerhouse, contains lots of trees, flowers and bushes, a little fountain, a trellised walkway and a small orchidarium. It lives up to its name which means the House of Roses.

It also has a pleasant café tucked behind the center and offers a reasonably quiet hideaway to escape from the noise and traffic of Avenida Paulista.

a piece of history lost in the concrete jungle
Jul 2016 • Family
Casa das Rosas is a piece of history lost in the concrete jungle. There you can get in contact with Haroldo de Campo's work and other important writers. Besides that the building (constructed in the 30's) is breathtaking.
