It's hard to find a zoo that creates a completely natural habitat for its animals, and the São Paulo Zoo is no exception. Still, staff try to provide a decent home for the more than 3,000 animals in their care, including local luminaries such as the Brazilian howler monkey and the red-breasted toucan.

This is a zoo with an extensive collection. There are many local species and this is a good place to visit before doing a nature tour. Good for family and for friends

The kids really enjoyed the zoo, we managed to get around it really quickly as it was a weekday and there were not many other people. Some of the animals were alone which was unusual but there were not many fences and we were able to feel like we were really close to the animals due to the natural barriers... More

We as a family from South Africa were horrified at the conditions the animals were kept in. We knew that the animals would be in small enclosures , but never expected it to be so bad. Some animal were mentally ill and self-mutilated. The jaguar was extremely agitated and ran about his cage and even growled at the people. Here... More

There many brazilian native species, like snakes, birds and cats. The Harpy eagles are very beautiful, so is the jaguar. If you like zoos, it is worth a visit.

When we walked out of the zoo I had a sad feeling, and I wished I could go back and set all the animals free. All of the animals look depressed. Cages and holdings where they are kept is very small! There was a Gemsbok in one cage without horns! It was also kept alone - and they are herd... More

Long lines to park the car, long lines to buy the tickets. We could only see one elephant and no lions at all. It was a bit frustrating because there weren't many animals. It is a pity such nice place seems abandoned.

Prepare yourself for a nice walk, this zoo is really big. Almost all species are represented, perfect for kids to discover in one place so many of them. Just try to avoid school day when you plan your visit.
