Ibirapuera Park, the highlight of this neighborhood, is a family-friendly area to have a picnic, relax, play sports, exercise or appreciate art. It gets crowded during the weekends and is a popular leisure destination for residents. Its 1,584 square kilometers holds three lakes, two museums and several other cultural spaces. The park hosts a variety of events throughout the year, such as free music concerts and a water and light show celebrating the holidays at the end of the year. There are two important monuments to visit, the Obelisk and the Flag Monument. Ibirapuera is a perfect escape!

It’s a very unique cool building. At the time it was empty but still didn’t take away from its very unique architecture to me it almost looks like a flying saucer. A brilliant white building in a see of green of the park. Worth checking out for sure

Interesting exhibit by Chinese artist and activist Ai Wewei. The building itself is a creation of world renowned Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer

The biggest Ai Weiwei exhibition ever, if you are in S Paulo do not miss it.
Absolutely astonishing, it is amazing to see and to get inspired by what this incredible person accomplished through his life.
Loved it.

We were in Ibirapuera Park to go to the (amazing) AfroBrazil Museum, and happened across the current Maya exhibition in the Oca - a quite amazing collection of objects from the Mayan culture, quite beautifully presented in this wonderful exhibition space.
However, despite this major international exhibition taking place while the World Cup was (a few times) in town, there is not a single word of English (all signage was in Portuguese and Spanish) in the entire exibit - I can understand why it was not all in English, but to not to have a single word is bizarre... every other museum etc we went in Brazil did, or at least had a folder or booklet for English-speaking visitors to read as they went around (like at the AfroBrazil on the other side of the park!).
This was obviously a shame as we were not able to fully appreciate all the objects, and especially their exact use and cultural meaning to the Maya, but their beauty and intricacy in many ways speak for themselves (see photos).
If you are in town when the exhibit is still on I would strongly recommended a visit, especially as it is free!

Was very lucky to be able to visit an empty Oca, without any exhibition going on. The building looks even more overwhelming, stripped down to its bare essentials. The white concrete dome, built in homage to the classical Brazilian roundhouse, is another Oscar Niemeyer icon.

Are you visiting Ibirapuera Park? Think to visit Oca do Ibirapuera. Great place where you will learn more about Brazil Culture, and more. If you are on vacation in Sao Paulo, try to plan you visit on weekdays (Monday to Friday). On weekends the Oca uses to stay full of people. Enjoy!

At the time of my visit there was an exhibition showing several important innovations during the last century. A technical exhibition from an artist's point of view.

always displaying very interesting themes, often bringing arts representing other peoples and civilizations. when in Sao Paulo, having something going on, it pays the visit. If you don't have much time, avoid Saturdays and Sundays, when it really gets crowded.
