Neighborhood: Ibirapuera
Ibirapuera Park, the highlight of this neighborhood, is a family-friendly area to have a picnic, relax, play sports, exercise or appreciate art. It gets crowded during the weekends and is a popular leisure destination for residents. Its 1,584 square kilometers holds three lakes, two museums and several other cultural spaces. The park hosts a variety of events throughout the year, such as free music concerts and a water and light show celebrating the holidays at the end of the year. There are two important monuments to visit, the Obelisk and the Flag Monument. Ibirapuera is a perfect escape!

A Bunch of Über Athletes, pulling a heavy canoe. But if you look closer, you see that there's actually only one, really doing an inhuman effort to make the boat move. Bunch of Gym Queens ;-)
Apart from that, Victor Brecheret created a masterpiece in stone. To be admired ifrom all sides and if possible, without schoolchildren climbing the monument.

This is next to the park and really draws you to it when you are in the park but when you get there it's impressive but with very little signage so you've no idea what you are looking at and what it commerorates. Impressive sculpture but would be better with a few more signs.

It is a large-scale granite sculpture by the Italian-Brazilian sculptor Victor Brecheret at the entrance of Ibirapuera Park in São Paulo, Brazil. It is very beautiful and huge.

The monument commemorates the exploration and colonization of São Paulo
(and Brazil). The Brazilian sculptor, Victor Brecheret, was commissioned to construct this monument to celebrate São Paulo’s settlement 400 years before. It’s done in a very Socialist Art style. It looks like it belongs more in Prague or Budapest than São Paulo. It’s huge and sits on a large roundabout adjacent to Ibiripuera Park.

I asked my Brazilian friends about it and they expressed their displeasure with its’ romantic symbolism of their oppressive history of military dictatorships and slavery.

The Monument to Los Bandeiras by Victor Brecheret sits at one of the entrances to Sao Paulo's Ibirapuera Park. Commissioned by the city and completed in 1954, it depicts through massive granite blocks and a heroic socialist realist style the struggle and triumph of the settlement of Brazil's interior in the 17th Century. While viewing it the scale, nobility and diversity of the settlers is awe-inspiring. The thoughts about the less savory aspects of the colonial expansion come later. Definitely worth a visit on your way into or out of the park.

We walked to Ibirapuera Park from Paulista Avenue and before you reach the park you come across the Monument. It is impressive and you must stop here for a photo before entering the park.

Monument to the Bandeiras is a large-rough sculpture at the entrance of Ibirapuera Park in São Paulo. You will see it in case you visit the Ibirapuera Park, otherwise there is no reason to arrange a visit specific for it.

This monument is one of the cities post card points. It represents a key moment in Brazil's history and is one of those that I had heard about since infancy. The area around it is somewhat busy with main roads, but the nearby Ibirapuera park is very pleasant.

The huge monument made of 240 granite bricks, weighing 50 tons each! The monument put side by side the Brazil's ethnic diversity! A beautiful sculpture created and built by Victor Brecheret!

This sculpture close of Ibirapuera park is designed by the famous Vitor Brecheret. It has became a symbol and post card of Brazil, with 240 granite blocks and was inaugurated in 1954 for the celebrations of the fourth century of the city of São Paulo. This work represents Brazilian pioneers, exposing its various ethnic groups and the effort to build and explore the country. In addition to Portuguese, there are black, mamluks and indians people (with crosses in the neck), pulling a monsoon canoe, used in river expeditions.
