About
In the center of São Paulo, the Convent and San Francisco Sanctuary is a pearl of the baroque of the city. Founded on September 17, 1647, it completed its 370-year foundation in 2017. It is worth a visit and a dip in this part of the history of São Paulo and Brazil.

Neighborhood:
Sé, which derives its name from Sé Square, is a central neighborhood in historic São Paulo. Close by, the Law School, the Museum of the Court of Justice and the Metropolitan Cathedral offer inspiring architecture. If you are looking for cultural activities, head to Caixa Cultural and check the schedule. In the area there is a popular pedestrian street called “Rua Direita”, one of the first streets in the region, which today marks the crowded perimeter. Sé is a great area to explore during daytime, but use caution if visiting alone at night.
How to get there

This is the most charming church in São Paulo, besides the oldest Law School in the city. Important names like Castro Alves, Alvares de Azevedo, Rodrigues Alves, Lygia Fagundes Telles, Monteiro Lobato and even our president Michel Temer passed by those rooms.

Considering there is almost no maintenance, the building is quite okay. It is a nice convent, one of the few still remaining within the city. While walking through downtown, it's worth the visit of a few minutes.

Art pieces, architecture, and stories associated to this place. Very interesting. The best of this church are the gregorian chants, onde a week.

Nice architecture inside with a ceiling made of wood. Not highly 'decorated' inside either which was nice to see, but a lot of garbage outside which clearly offended the Padre as he was out with his mobile phone taking pictures presumably to call someone over the 'problem'!
The Bread outside the church looked very nice but was on the expensive side of cost.

to e honest I walked by this building not thinking it was going to be amazing church, because it kind of blends in with the rest of the street. until you walk up the steps and walk in and see all the white and gold, its amazing.

From outside, you do not realize the interior. It is a pretty nice small church, from the time churches were churches, not just big boxes. It has a touch of baroque that really catches the atmosphere of the best of catholic sacred architecture. You can feel the spirit of franciscan ideals. Unfortunately, there is the law college at the left side that degradates the surroundings of the church with college parties/activism. The square in front of the church the (Largo do Sao Francisco) is a little abandoned, needs more police, a gardening and trash recovery. It is not much safe, just cross and visit the Saint Benedic Monastery at S. Bento Street. Alas, if you go north through this street, you will be at a canyon that unfolds the two churches at the extremes.

What's kind of striking about this church is something that I'd like to describe as the "nature of contrast" within itself where the part from the entrance to the altar is just a "plain & simple" one along the length on both sides (except for some small paintings & small statues), but where the altar which is more of an "altar area" (in the shape of a long rectangle stretching some length to the back) is a "nothing but plain" one of really somewhat of a breathtaking scene (plenty of gold glitters, ornate structures & beautiful statues in a sizeable area which given the size of this small church is an area almost about its half!) & one which I would compare to the "grand altars" that I've seen elsewhere (such as those at the "main cathedrals" of the Spanish South America in cities such as Lima, Santiago, Buenos Aires & Montevideo). And yes, apart from the bare nature of the front part, it was for me kind of fascinating to see these "interior balconies" along the length on both sides and all the way into the area of the altar (an "architectural beauty" the likes of which the only other place that I recall seeing at besides this church is the White Church in Porto Alegre).

And nearby, actually right beside this church (to the left after coming out) is the Chagas church also dedicated to the same saint as this one but with a "more ornate" interior where the sides are not bare as this church but with beautiful shrines, and at just about a 5-minute walk away (to the right after coming out) is the square Praca da Se with the city's "main cathedral" Catedral da Se de Sao Paulo where worthwhile visiting are to see the "huge pillars" inside & the "big circle" like a compass or such right outside where there's nearby also a standing statue of St. Paul.
