Neighborhood: Pinheiros
Exploring Pinheiros, a neighborhood known for cozy restaurants and cafes, you will notice a youthful energy. Several cultural centers and institutes surround the area and even its main church, Calvário, hosts a traditional Brazilian “Festa Junina” - a celebration with traditional music, dance, and food during the months of June and July. On the weekends, residents gather at Benedito Calixto Square, a loud and crowded area where people enjoy live music drinks alongside the antiquities fair.

An Open-Air Museum of Wall Art.
The Beco de Batman (Batman's Alley) in Vila Madelena, not too far away from the Pinheiros district, is a must-do if you're in Sao Paulo. A few streets, with their walls and buildings, are covered in the most intricate and detailed art and paintings that you'll ever see. Superheroes, abstract art, tribal art and nature are just some of the themes that coat the walls of the area. The area seems safe but usual precautions are advised. I visited on a Saturday afternoon and there was quite some crowd closer to the new year. The streets have several souvenir shops, bars and restaurants as well as live performances that happen from time to time. Beco de Batman makes for a laidback afternoon or evening spent admiring some of the best street art that you'll ever come across.

    Great 1/2 day Tourist Visit
A vibrant locals area just 15 mins walk from the Metro Madelena or Sumare. Amazing graffiti art all around the area. Lots of bars and cafes for a stop in between walking the numerous hilly streets. You need your comfortable walking shoes for this area.

Graffiti all around on the street walls
We enjoyed a lovely walk along the graffiti walls. We took an uber here. Saw batman, the flash and other graffiti. It was a quick walk. We tool some pictures. We continued walking around the neighborhood. We went into various shops.

This graffiti covered alley is buzzing with vendors and tourists. It’s really admirable that the residents are enterprising. Personally, Batman Alley was disappointing. São Paulo is not very tourist friendly. This is another example of an effort to attract people, it is hyped up.

This is a very interesting graffiti urban art open space in Vila Madalena, São Paulo. For any comics fan is a must-go place. its nickname came from a graffito of the DC Comics character Batman which was painted on one of the walls in the late 80s, in later years it evolved and it is continually renovated and cared for by local community members.

I guess this is where the kids who drew on bathroom walls got sent to. Jokes a side, we looove this place! The art, the vibe, and especially that every year it gets bigger, brighter and better is just freaking awesome. Every time we come to Sampa, we visit Beco and every time we meet new cool people. This time, it was the artist Datostudio (leave a follow on Insta). We bought one of his art pieces and had great conversations. I always said that great people do great art, so it speaks for his art and personality. If you don't visit Beco and the surrounding neighborhood, you have not been in Sao Paulo :).

Beco do Batman - Batman Alley is an area in Vila Madalena which has become famous due to the high level of street art that line the streets. The two main streets where the art is to be found are Rua Gonçalo Afonso and Rua Medeiros de Albuquerque which have become very touristy as a result.

The nickname of Batman Alley came about because the character was painted on one of the walls in 1980's and local art students followed suit and started filling other walls with their designs. We were fascinated with the place and so were many others as it was hugely busy when  we visited.

Plan to spend a lovely afternoon here! Nice artwork similar to Wynwood in Miami but enjoyed it more as there are street vendors selling everything from coconut water to artwork. There are also several cafes and restaurants to choose from. Go on a Saturday and spend about 1-2 hours then head to Liberdade!

A fun, energetic and bohemian area of São Paulo somewhat similar to Brooklyn, NYC. Well worth making time to visit especially over a weekend. Lots of energy, easy drinks, street art and street vendors in a smaller 3 block radius. You'll find good cafes, amazing bars and cocktail stand ups and small shops throughout the area. It felt totally safe with lots of tourists and locals from all areas of the globe. Parking can be challenging so probably best to book an Uber for easy in/out.

I am born and raised in São Paulo but had never actually visited the Alley. I finally visited it, with my foreign husband and my father in a tour and it was amazing! The alley was fresh repainted after the time it went in grief for the death of a fellow black artist. It was really interesting and it was a tuesday so the alley was very empty! I recommend visiting the ziv gallery!

Ok, I guess. I'm not a huge fan of grafitti or street art and while this is an interesting area to capture the work of street artists, I wasn't that impressed. Some of it was quite good, but other sections were just okay. If you don't have anything else to do, this might be an interesting place to visit, but unless you are fan of street art or comic book-style art, I would skip it.
