Neighborhood: Sé
Sé, which derives its name from Sé Square, is a central neighborhood in historic São Paulo. Close by, the Law School, the Museum of the Court of Justice and the Metropolitan Cathedral offer inspiring architecture. If you are looking for cultural activities, head to Caixa Cultural and check the schedule. In the area there is a popular pedestrian street called “Rua Direita”, one of the first streets in the region, which today marks the crowded perimeter. Sé is a great area to explore during daytime, but use caution if visiting alone at night.

Spectacular Concert Hall. It is located in a building of a train station in the middle of the ancient financial centre of the city. Trains are still working in the station. Buy tickets in the internet. You can arrive by car and leave it in the private parking place. Or you can arrive by subway through Estação da Luz Station. There are 1.700 places on thi theatre. There I saw famous Brazilian and international orchestras. The architecture is from the begining of the 20th. Century, which includes greek corinthian pilars. You can find restaurants and café inside. Reservations needed. Yesterday I heard the famous russian pianist Daniil Trifonov. It was a unique experience! Do not miss this place if you visit the city!!!

I had a private tour in Portuguese since no one else showed up. They generally have groups of 20-25 people, but for whatever reason it was slow today. The entire complex is nice, with the bookstore/music/gift shop, café. The restaurant was not open yet. You get the history of the building and a visit to the lobbies and the concert hall. The concert hall is truly spectacular. You can hear the silence.
The surrounding neighborhood is rundown and there are some characters walking about, but there is police presence during the day at strategic locations. My tour was at 4:30 so I did take the metro and walked the 5-7 minutes to Sala São Paulo and back. There were lots of people around, especially after 5:00, getting off from work. I agree that if coming in the evening for an event, take a cab or drive.

I was fortunate enough to have a English private tour (just my friend and I) for only 5 Reais. The theater is awesome and the history behind it is even more fascinating. You can buy the rehearsal ticket for 10 Reais on every Friday and there are free tickets on every Sunday. So do drop by when you have time.

The Sala Sao Paulo is a venue I was most anxious to visit and it lived up to it's reputation as a world class venue for classical music. We were lucky to get tickets for the excellent S.P. Symphony Orchestra which is fast becoming one of the world's great orchestras. Marvellous building with equally marvellous acoustics. There are not a lot of great attractions in this city for international visitors but this is certainly one of them the only downside being it's location in a not very good area so it's advisable to get there by car (excellent parking) or taxi. It's down to the local authorities to improve the surrounding area to compliment what they have here, it's a poor reflection on the local politicians to have an unsatisfactory situation like this.

Oct 2014 • Family
My family lives in Campinas, about 1.5 hours north of Sao Paulo. We brought my husbands family here and it turned into a disaster. When we first drove up we saw the most horrible sight I have seen: about 150 homeless people with makeshift homes, mattresses on the street, sleeping or openly smoking crack pipes in the middle of the day. While cops were monitoring!! I guess they only care if something gets dangerous for other people. When we got out of the car I was hit with the worst smell I've ever smelt in my life. There were pools of human pee and feces everywhere. I've gone traveled on trains in Thailand, lived through Carnival in Brazil and I have never smelt such an overwhelming stench of human excrement.
When we finally got to the entrance we learned that the train station is in the same building, I'm not sure how this sounds during concerts?? We tried to get inside but were denied entry because there was going to be a concert later that day. 6 hours later!! I speak Portuguese and even tried to pay the full amount and said we would be out in 30 minutes but they still refused.
Unless you are going for an actual concert I say skip this. The outside is horrendously disgusting with all the homeless people near the train station, and apparently unless you have tickets to a concert you will not be allowed inside during a concert day even if the concert is 6 hours later.

Words don't describe the beauty, warmth and energy of the Sala Sao Paulo, the classical music performance center for visiting artists and the Sao Paulo Orchestra. Formerly a train station used for transporting coffee from the coast to the city, the open-roof building was enclosed and transformed into one of the most stunning and acoustically superior venues in the world. While trains still arrive and depart from the platforms next to the orchestra hall coffee is mostly celebrated by the beautiful stain glass windows depicting the history and importance of the industry on Sao Paulo life. Our Saturday afternoon matinee seats were perfectly affordable and the performance was spectacular.

For you to succeed in this city you have to get to talk to people. Even if they dont know english. You have to communicate.
1 out of 20 knows english and you can communicate a little bit with 1 out of 10 people. just have something that you can translate with and you'll be fine. Note that this city is VERY big and if you plan getting somewhere expect it to take twice as long time due to the traffic.
If you walk around, dont act like a tourist then you'll just get robbed or scammed with prices.
I recomend this resturant.

It divides the space with a train station, but not the noise. Sala São Paulo is the official home of OSESP - Orquestra Sonfônica do Estado de São Paulo. Other orchestras play there too. It´s a great place, very beautiful, exccellent acustic.

Poderiam me ajudar?

1. Pegue o metrô para Barra Funda/Palmeiras;

What does "Digite aqui o codigo de tronca do seu Vale Ingresso" mean? I tried several times to buy concert tickets today but could not figure this out and my ticket order did not go through because I could not fill in this blank. I understand it literally means something such as "Type here the exchange code of your ticket value". I entered the ticket price before taxes and after taxes and anything else I could think of, but nothing worked.
I really hope to buy these tickets and would appreciate your help.

I booked online and obtained a confirmation of purchase.
The box office (ground floor entrance) reasonably sent me downstairs into the carpark to the collection-point-for-pre-booked-tickets.
Then there was "a problem".
They had no ticket but it took them ages to actually send me back to the box office, who tried to send me back downstairs.
At which point I expressed frustration.
The Box Office staff managed to communicate that the transaction had been declined by my credit card issuer.
So be very careful about what your confirmation says - get it checked by a Brazilian (not just a Portuguese speaker)
And in fact the confirmation may well have not had any warning language.
Brazil really is in a parallel world when it comes to law, taxes, and financial services.
I have bought tickets online in several languages I don't speak, but everywhere else one can work it out.
Fortunately there were still tickets for sale at the Box Office, but I ended up with a seat not as good as the one I had booked online.
P.S. Make sure you book your taxi/uber in advance so you can get from venue to the car while the police guard for the purpose is still there.
