If you are walking the beaches of Santos the point at Jose Menino divides Praia do Gonzaga from Praia do Itararé,
At this point is the Monument 100 Years of Japanese Immigration by artist Tomie Ohtakere. Until you are right up to it you don't realize how immense this is. Although i saw some energetic people climbing on it, to me its mostly a place to walk to. If I hadn't walked there I wouldn't have seen the surfing museum, or the number of people surfing at this area - for me worth spending a bit of time observing a young family teaching the kids how to surf.

It's nice for an afternoon, there are lots of kids and dogs and you can watch the surfers practicing.

See the title of this review. There is no "and". That's it. You've seen the picture. You don't need to go to Rio now - for this at least. Go to Rio! Go! But don't waste your time finding this unless you're really into sculpture and/or happen to be at the beach it's on. Aside from that if we'd omitted this from our ship's shore excursion I'd neither have noticed nor cared.

A massive piece of sculpture from Tomie Ohtake, celebrating the 100 years mark of the Japanese community immigrating to Brazil. If I am not mistaken the sculpture was settle on February 12, 2008. It is already 110 years since the first ship vessel arrived in Brazil. Days with high winds the sculpture produces different sounds. Apparently it is facing the direction where Japan is.

The sculpture is interesting and it is seating in a small park at the end of Santos, close to São Vicente. The park offers a skateboard rink for kids and also classes for the young, such as surfing.

This sculpture's location right next to the ocean is stunning.
This is a stop to make for a picture showing you have been to Santos.

While walking out to view this landmark up close I was surprised by the police presence. I never felt I was in an unsafe place, but understand they have had trouble with some of the young kids hanging out in the area. (Just like anywhere in the states, but thought it should be mentioned as an FYI.)

Huge steel construction to commemorate the Chinese people settling in Santos, right on the water's edge, beautiful photo opportunity with the ocean as the back-drop.

Ms. Otahke, one of the most prominent Brazilian artist, created this masterpiece that resembles a giant dragon lurching towards the Atlantic ocean. Around it a park where a crowd of mothers with their babies, beachgoers, businessmen and surfers hustle in perfect harmony.

Only go if you like the photos, because nothing really to see than what you see in the photos, don't plan to go here waiting for a big attraction
