About
Inaugurated in 1998, the Coffee Museum is one of the main touristic attractions of the City of Santos and has as main purpose to preserve and make known the history of coffee in Brazil and in the world. By means of objects, documents and audiovisual media, the Institution shows the public how the evolution of coffee culture and the political, economic and cultural development of the country are closely connected since the second half of the XVIII century and up to our days.

- A gente tá por aíSao Paulo, SP253 contributionsA beautiful building that houses the museum of one of the most consumed products in Brazil and the world. The museum's collection is small but with a lot of information, however it is more worth visiting the beautiful building and its rooms, especially the central one. On Saturdays the entrance is free, so it's worth it. In 30 minutes, VC can make the visit. It's worth giving a parade in the cafeteria. - SAMURAIABCJapan3,280 contributionsIt is a legacy of the port of Santos, which flourished in the coffee trade. The items on display are not particularly rare, but the buildings themselves recall the prosperity of the time. I had coffee at the cafe in the building, but I didn't really know how it tasted because it was an espresso I don't usually drink much. It is within walking distance of the bus terminal about an hour from São Paulo.Visited July 2024Traveled soloWritten July 24, 2024
- MatheusColaresSao Paulo, SP88 contributionsMuseum in the historic centre of Santos that tells about the history of coffee and its influences in the country and the city. It's in the building where the coffee bag worked. The building is well preserved and the visit is pleasant. The timeline on the top floor is quite explaining. There is a cafeteria on the ground floor with good options for special cafes. On Saturdays, admission is free.Olá, Matheus! Agradecemos por visitar o Museu do Café e compartilhar a sua experiência! At the cafeteria, the coffee I ordered was COLD! When I asked if they served it that way, the waitress replied that "I took a while taking a photo and that's why it got cold" (impossible); He also changed me for another one. Before going I read that admission was free; When we got there it turned out that it pays.
It's a beautiful place.
The experience of doing the period photo session is wonderful (it is paid).

The Coffee Museum is close to the Pelé Museum and the tram ride. We had a snack at the cafe where they have a wide gourmet range and then took a guided tour. In fact, the explanation is in the Auction Hall and in the other spaces we go through the guide. The explanations guide how coffee production is closely linked to our economy, politics and culture.

We visited the Coffee Museum in Santos as part of a cruise ship excursion. Santos is a gritty port city with many decaying waterfront buildings. The Coffee Museum had interesting exhibits but all of the placards were in Portuguese. It seems that most cruise tourists are Americans or Canadians and speak English, so the museum needs to fix this problem. Also many displays were faded and worn. The museum was extremely hot on what was a Fall day for Santos, although some sections were air conditioned. There is a coffee shop near the entrance that was very busy selling local brew. There is a fair amount of seating just outside the coffee shop. No soft drinks were in sight. I am unsure if water or food was being sold at the coffee shop.

Interesting for those who like coffee or history in general
There are several curious points but some rooms without air conditioning are very hot.
I went on Sunday after taking a ride on the tourist tram and I had a feeling of insecurity walking through the center with all the stores closed, including restaurants and snack bars.
Maybe that's why the coffee museum's cafeteria was crowded and had a waiting line.

From the facade (architecture), to the large Hall where the Café's prices were defined, furniture, works of art (among them, beautiful examples by Benedicto Calixto) and history... make the visit stunning. Lots to see, including artifacts related to coffee culture and all related processes and many texts related to history, very educational. Worth knowing!

This museum currently reside in the city center, very close to where the old ports operated from. It was quite interesting how the crops were managed, prices set, and it reminds me off what may look like in modern times as the closed doors meetings held in Alaska annually to set the prices of fish, and crab. A similarly Regulated body operated from here over a hundred years ago. Don't leave without sitting for a couple cups of coffee in their cafe.

Whenever we go to Santos, we like to visit the Coffee Museum. It's in the historic center and on Saturdays entry is free. It has beautiful architecture, a historic and well-maintained building. It shows how the old coffee exchange worked and the history of coffee in Brazil as well. Unmissable tour.

If you enjoy coffee or history, this is a stop not to be missed. The tour and history of this museum was enlightening and fun. There are displays, videos and even the original furnishings. We ended this tour with a stop in the cafe. We tried the "bird poop" coffee (any coffee lover knows what I'm referring to) before buying it in whole beans to take home. They don't display it because of the price, but you just have to ask for it. Good thing we tried it before buying the beans to take home. It's more of a story than a delicious/exotic drink. Great stop and a decent cup of coffee.

Everything is in Portuguese. Very little English translation. It wasn't that interesting to me. The building itself was kind of cool but nothing to go out of your way to stay. The highlight was a cuppa coffee at the cafeteria which was delicious. This is not a must see. My entire group of three found it lackluster

Nice to see a preserved building, built in 1920, which displays the mahogany carved pit, with seats, where brokers bought & sold the coffee Brazil is só famous for. Very nicely preserved mural paintings of old Santos. Worth the visit.

Hi, sorry to write again. wasn't sure it went through the first time. Is Coffee Museum walking distance from the cruise port? Did you feel safe walking on your own or were you with a tour? Where did you exchange brazilian money? Thank you!

I just found your question! I submit reviews once in a while but do not pay that much attention to Trip Advisor unless we are traveling and then we check it every day for recommendations. We arrived Santos on a container ship on the opposite side of the waterway from the city. Took Uber to downtown. That includes a ferry ride and was very cheap. Left a huge tip with the driver and he tried to refuse it. Felt 100% safe at all times. Do not miss the old trolly car, a short walk from the coffee museum. The restaurant at the trolly car start point is excellent. We use ATM machines once we arrive at a country. Purchase $100 or so in local currency before we depart home.

O passeio do Bonde do Café fica próximo ao Museu ? O que fazer primeiro , a visita no Museu ou o passeio de bonde ?
Written November 22, 2017
